Tomlin tiptoes around talk of Tiki, Plaxico

With Peter King of thinking that running back Tiki Barber could be bound for the ‘Burgh and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger openly rooting for a return of receiver Plaxico Burress, it makes sense for anyone interviewing coach Mike Tomlin to ask about Barber and Burress.

Of course, it may not make sense for Tomlin to actually answer, but it definitely makes sense to ask.

Tomlin appeared as a guest Wednesday with Johnny D and The 757 Club of 1490 AM the Game in Virginia Beach.  Tomlin was asked about both players.

“I don’t know the status of those two guys,” Tomlin said, “and I don’t worry about what’s said in the media in terms of potential free agents.  That’s not my bag, man.  This is slow sports time, so people are gonna say whatever it is they’re gonna say.”

It’s neither an admission nor a denial, so we’ll simply have to wait and see what happens once the lockout ends.

  1. The psychiatry boom is about to begin in Pittsburgh and may end up dwarfing anything the steel industry had done it the past.

Instead of the Steel Curtain defense, it’ll be the Soft Couch offense.

    One Flew Over Heinz Field!

  2. Belichick is known for Belispeak —> a semi-awkward yet rather effective way of diverting questions by answering them in ways that skirt the info the questioner is really driving at.

The mouth is moving – but nothing of import is being said. It’s kind of an open-mouthed audible way of actually saying essentially nothing.

It’s not very subtle to anyone listening – though some think it is.

Spygate or not, Belichick is a legend and big credit to him – but he just looks pained every time he is trying to skirt a question. So much angst.

And then there’s Tomlin – one smooth ass operator.

In this latest instance, Tomlin rolls out the “Not my bag, man” play.

Damn – did we hit the jackpot landing this cat or what?

  3. I dont see where all this tiki to pit nonsense is coming from beside tiki saying he wants to go there, I just seriously doubt the steelers would sign a classles guy like him. I can maybe see plax coming back though he knows what it is to be a steelers but even that is a long shot and I don’t see tomlin’s response as tip toeing around a question, I feel that’s a genuine response to what the media is trying to force on some teams

Yes to answer your question. I believe Tomlin was an excellent choice as coach. As far as his reply is concerned, he could have been curt and said, “Don’t know. Don’t care.” But he was attempting to be cordial which is more than one can say for Bellick who enjoys press conferences like he’s standing in front of a manure pile.

  5. Ben said that he didn’t know all that much about Tiki Barber … but he likes how he treats women.

  6. The Steelers wide receivers are locked in for at least 1 more year.
    Heinz Ward (UFA 2014)
    Mike Wallace (RFA 2012)
    Limas Sweed (RFA 2012)
    Emanuel Sanders (RFA 2013)

It doesn’t make sense to bring Burress back into this core and risk intimidating the young receivers who have all shown potential to be long term options for this team.
