This is usually a part of the NFL calendar where players are resting.

But this isn’t a usual year, and the Houston Texans are one of the diminishing number of teams that continue to hold large-scale player-only workouts.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle writes that 34 Texans participated Monday in a second minicamp in three week. Since we don’t have any other football happening, here are a few notes courtesy of McClain from the session:

1. Ryans isn’t yet 100% recovered from last year’s Achilles surgery. He’s “running and covering” at the practice but not able to go all out yet.

2. Tight end James Casey has bulked up to possibly play fullback if Pro Bowler Vonta Leach is not brought back. That’s another reason why keeping Leach is key.

3. In another position switch, Glover Quin is practicing at safety as expected.

4. Cornerback Kareem Jackson apologized again for his name being used as part of a porn expo party.

“I made some bad decisions but I apologized for them and I’ve moved on,” Jackson said.” I’ve been working out. I’m ready to go when the time comes. It’s great to be back here working out with the guys.”
