Amid government shutdown, Vikings shut down stadium push

Yes, the Vikings still want a new stadium in Minnesota. No, they’re not going to ask for one while the government has shut down due to the lack of a budget deal.

Sid Hartman of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that team ownership realizes that now isn’t the time to push for public money, given that folks will be losing money due to lost employment until the budget impasse is resolved.

It’s a smart move, but it’s also fairly obvious. Even an eight-year-old knows that there are certain family hardships during which it wouldn’t be prudent to keep asking for that new bike.

Hartman also commits a little Star Trib on Star Trib crime, reporting that his paper’s report of a reduction in the estimated cost of the project from $1 billion to $800 million isn’t accurate. Of course, he doesn’t specifically name his own paper as the source of the supposedly erroneous report, but it was.
