Matt Schaub wants Nnamdi Asomugha in Houston

The news that the Texans plan to pursue free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha has been met with approval from Texans quarterback Matt Schaub.

Schaub said on SiriusXM NFL Radio that he thinks Houston is the right place for Asomugha, and that he’d rather play with Asomugha than against him.

“I totally think it would be a great fit for him,” Schaub said. “A lot of us on the team know him fairly well. We played Oakland it seems like every year, at least since I’ve been in the organization for the last four years so we know him well. Him and Andre [Johnson] have a good relationship so I definitely see it as a great fit for him.”

Schaub realizes, however, that he doesn’t get to make that decision -- and that there are players on every team in the league who want Asomugha as a teammate.

“I think about 1500 other guys across the league are going to try to recruit him for sure,” Schaub said. “But I think we definitely will do our part . . . he’s a tremendous player, arguably the best corner in the game and so he can definitely help us and really help shut down half of the field.”

And Schaub would prefer that Asomugha shut down half of the field while the Texans’ offense is watching from the sideline, not while the Texans’ offense is on the other side of the line of scrimmage.
