It’s over: NFLPA* leadership unanimously ratifies CBA

Getty Images

The NFLPA* wanted a unanimous recommendation of the new labor deal before sending it to the rank-and-file for a 50-percent-plus-one vote, and the NFLPA* got it.

“It’s unanimous,” NFLPA* spokesman George Atallah said on Twitter.

It’s still not over, but there’s virtually no way at least 50 percent of the players won’t agree.

Albert Breer of NFL Network reports that the 10 Brady class action plaintiffs also have approved of the settlement.

  1. Not so fast! I’ve heard that four independent sources are reporting that the lockout is not over and will continue until September 27! Those sources are stairwayto7, lovesportsandsurfing, nudeman, and purpleman527.

  2. WHOSE READY FOR SOME FOOTBALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  3. Now if only we could go through the whole season without the story always being told with the lockout in perspective… I can only hear the talking heads during games putting everything around that

I just don’t want to hear about it anymore – I’m sick of it… just pretend like time stopped since March, and get on with football

  4. YES! IT’S OVER!

In some ways its strange feeling to have football back (probably because I can’t believe this is actually done), but I’m absolutely ecstatic.

And the first preseason game is just over two weeks away!

  5. 32-0 vote by the union leadership. This must mean it’s a bad deal for the owners.

  6. I told you there is a “Football God” and he/she just smiled on all of us. Good health to all the players, coaches – and especially us poor beleagured fans.

    Go Niners!

  7. Here we go, baby! Time to repeat. I’ve got confirmation on a is a Type B Road Blow on the back highways just north of Juneau in the shape of a “52” with a “G” in the cracks below it – If you look close enough you can almost see the words “back to back” written in cursive below and to the right of the “G.”

Just one more reason to know that we will repeat as Super Bowl champions!

    Indianapolis Inevatable!

  8. How about the fans vote to NEVER speak of this lockout AGAIN! Thumbs ups if your with me!

  9. ok guys- now lets get out those flags and begin flag football.

I cant wait to hear the players complain how Roger Goodell has made this game soft.

  10. I’ll drink to that…
But no one should feel special – I drink to everything.

  11. Today’s cold water courtesy of @stevo8drum. Couldn’t go eight minutes without complaining?

Oh right, we’re on the internet. Carry on.

  12. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! We finally MADE IT!

Here’s to the 2011 NFL season! Best of luck to everyone’s team!

    GO COLTS!!!

  13. It’s over! But…. “It’s still not over, but there’s virtually no way at least 50 percent of the players won’t agree.”

    So it’s not over?

  14. Doesn’t Mawae think he’s important !! Glad it’s all over and done with for at least 10 years. It’s been nice in a strange way to talk to all you fans from other teams in our own ‘union’. So good luck to all your teams’ this season, my Skins will need it lol !!!
    Phil

  15. I am never using the word lockout again.

Lets get ready for some football!!

  16. After everything that’s happened, reading “there’s virtually no way at least 50 percent of the players won’t agree” still has me worrying a little bit that at least 50 percent of the players won’t agree.

  17. “It’s still not over, but there’s virtually no way at least 50 percent of the players won’t agree.”

You are giving the players WAY too much credit. At LEAST 85% of the players could care less about 1 word written in this agreement. They just want their paychecks or know where the next paycheck is coming from.

  18. FOOTBALL IS BACK! YEAH!

WOO WOO WOO, YOU KNOW IT!

    Zack Ryder is amused! 🙂

  19. Yay! Now we can get back to real football talk! Bring on the Brett Favre not retiring talk again! Favrewatch on ESPN! Whoo hoo. Let me start a rumor… Did you hear Joe Montana is coming back?

  20. Honestly what have we missed as fans? No games and free agency goes from one month to a fast tracked week! Now the 3rd party issues r different. I .e. Layoffs Ufda etc.

  21. I have my party hat on and watching old Steeler SB victories. This league is owned.

  22. We get to watch football. But at the same time now I have to look at an ugly John Clayton a couple of times a week. Its a toss up.

  23. Where’s the guy who kept posting “No NFL in 2011”? He said it was a lock.

Another guy said the deal would not be done until the end of September.

    Glad they were wrong 🙂

  24. “Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor ??!! No … and it’s not over now”.
    – Bluto, Animal House

Now we get back to the tasks at hand: free agency, fantasy football drafts, hot wings & beer on Sundays.

    Life is M’er F’in GREAT !!

  25. It’s great that the lockout is over! Now we have to deal with some SLOPPY football for a month or so. And we also have to deal with injuries and out of shape players. It’s going to be a while before we see the true NFL product on the field.

  26. “32-0 vote by the union leadership. This must mean it’s a bad deal for the owners.”

    @chc4…

31-0 vote by the owners. This must mean it’s a bad deal for the players. LOL. Seriously, it’s a win for both sides.

  27. Fans should boycott preseason games!! Do not pay full price to attend preseason games! EVER!!

  28. CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES C’MON!!! ::dancing around the office hoping my boss doesn’t see me:::

That’s a very obscure reference you noticed. Sounds like you’re the one who loves romantic comedies (not that there’s anything wrong with that). At least I don’t have a ponytail. And now that the NFL is back, I’ll be paying much less attention to the WNBA.

  32. Great news on a Monday!

Now I have more to look forward to for the fall other than leaves changing color.

    Hell Yeah!

  33. Sorry, maybe I’m just not as big a football fan as the rest of some of you, but what exactly is “back”? They had the draft, right? 1 preseason “game” will be lost, and the real games won’t be impacted. Everyone still plays 16, right?

The talking heads have still been talking about free agency, and teams have been making plans for 2011.

    Seriously, what ever went away??

  34. Pop the cork and smoke your cigar Mike.
It is so nice to not feel pissed off and angry anymore. It truly is a relief this whole ordeal over. I don’t care who you root for today we are just fans who got our sport back.

So on that note. I truly hope this is as good a day for you as it is for me.

    See you in September.

    Game on!

    ========================

Except that the owners also voted unanimously.

Well, all of the living ones.

The next two weeks are going to be inssssssssssssaaaaaaaaannnnnnnneeeeeeeeee!!!

    🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

This just in: stairwayto7 is so humiliated at his prediction, he changed his name to another weak Steeler name-steel6times

  37. Bear Down, Chicago Bears, Make every play clear the way to victory
Bear Down, Chicago Bears, put up a fight with a might so fearlessly
We’ll never forget the way you thrilled the nation, with your t-formation
Bear Down, Chicago Bears, and let them know why you’re wearing the crown
You’re the pride and joy of Illinois, Chicago Bears, Bear Down!

  38. Thank you baby jeebus.

Did any one ever say why Al abstained from voting? Was he in the can or something during the vote?

This could be fun game- let’s keep track of the postings of new screen names here and try to connect them to screen names that belonged to either:

    a) The chicken little that swore there would be no season this year or;

    b) The person who swore that they were never coming back to football no matter what

Will any of them have the guts to come on here and admit they were wrong and keep their disgraced screen name? Will any come on here and admit they thought they could walk away but couldn’t?

    Funny.

    ====================

    Don’t be ridiculous.

Mike Golic- who played for 8 years in the league- just said it perfectly on ESPN. 99% percent of the players in the league won’t read one single word of this agreement.

They will vote yes because their player rep voted yes.

    End of story.

Dude, you are either an idiot or a liar. What did these rich morons do to you? Delayed your enjoyment of free agency and OTAs? If you like football, go out and watch it. You aren’t hurting anybody except yourself.
