Jenkins-to-Redskins deal dead

Getty Images

When word broke that the Redskins have signed defensive end Stephen Bowen, some fans were intrigued about the possibility that Bowen would be joined by Cullen Jenkins.

Instead, we’re now told the Jenkins talks are dead.

As we understand it, a handshake deal was close if not done.  Something happened to prompt the Redskins to go for Bowen instead.

Since Bowen played for the Cowboys, Jenkins can now perhaps sign there.  But he may have to take even less than what the Redskins were prepared to pay.

  1. is there a reason they are reporting on the Redskins, hows the McNabb future of the franchise looking

    idiots

  2. Apparently they had a handshake deal done but then Jenkins/his agent tried to squeeze them for a few more bucks so the Skins said f that noise and broke off talks and grabbed Bowen instead. Very good sign that the Allen-run Redskins office won’t play games like the Cerrato office did.

Redskins are having a good week. Not setting the market for any high priced FAs. No crazy signings. They are definitely active, but we’re seeing sensible contracts for players in positions of need, that at the very least won’t burn them if they don’t work out. I like the direction this is going.

  3. Jerrah, get the checkbook out! The Skins WAY overpaid for Bowen. He’s good, but not $27M good!

  4. If he didn’t sign with the Redskins and the truckload of money they probably offered, it’s unlikely that he joins the Cowboys and their lesser offer.

Then again, anyone the Redskins shoot for will ask for the 30% more because it’s the Redskins. The LA Clippers of the NFC East.

  5. “Since Bowen played for the Cowboys, Jenkins can now perhaps sign there. But he may have to take even less than what the Redskins were prepared to pay.”

    OR…

…he can take a little less than THAT and stay in GB and actually, ya know, win championships.

  6. Cullen Jenkins and Ray Edwards = Cleveland’s new 4-3 Defensive Ends Combo…. Ya’ Heard it from Ya’ Homie…

  7. If he has to go hopefully it isnt to the cowboys…. He is a damn good player and wherever he ends up will improve their def line! I think this is probably the biggest loss for the pack this year but i am sure his $$$$ are not to cap friendly.

Doubtful. He didn’t want to stay to begin with, or he would have taken what they were willing to offer.

You do realize that the owner of your team is Jerry Jones right?

Anyone want to take a crack at showing how stupid this comment it? For me it is way to easy. lol

  11. the dude is 31 and can’t atay healthy. They had a deal and then his agent wanted to start playing. Not a redskins fan but they are making some solid moves. Everyone wants to say same old redskins, but a closer look reveals that they are operating much differently.

GB hasn’t made an offer to this point.

    See: Roy Williams.

  14. slugdc: i’m glad you are so happy with the performance of the skins front office; so lets review-

so far washington got a 6th in 1012 and a 5th and 6th in 2013 for mcnabb and haynesworth (this ignores the wasted money and time of last season). they also signed every wideout over 30 on the market; just none that threaten a defense, unless the geezers all bail like stokely apparently is. the skins also paid 27.5 M/5yrs for a DE with 11 starts. 12.5M guaranteed.

meanwhile, the eagles got babin for 28M/5yrs with 5-6M guaranteed. and they traded their backup qb for a starting corner and a 2nd in 2012.

given the cap room gained by trading kolb, they can now lock down vick and desean jackson. and probably have room for sproles and a linebacker and safety too.

so if shanny allen and the skins are catching up, its hard to tell from here.

by the way, who exactly is your quarterback these days….?

Slumps are cyclical, championships (3) are forever.

  16. Come on to Charlotte Cullen. Your brother is moving back here to settle down with his family. It could be like old times at the Jenkins house.

  17. As a skins fan this is refreshing. I guarantee he wanted a boatload of money and they wouldn’t pay it

    ———————————————————–

So instead, they give it to Bowen! I can’t imagine what you guys are going through.

  18. See: Roy Williams.

    —————————————————————

Naaah, not even, not when your team gave Archuleta a $30 million contract then turned around and gave Randle El a $31 million contract. And you know I could go on. And on.

  19. You do realize that the owner of your team is Jerry Jones right?

    ———————————————————————-

Yeah. You realize that he’s obviously better than anybody Snyder has put out there, right?

  20. When Redskins fans say “Hail” at the end of whatever the jibberish it is that they are saying makes me gag. It’s the equivalent to a rapper saying “one” for “one love”, just cheesy as hell. I’m a Penn State fan and they say “We Are” that makes me gag too. Oh and the Redskins suck and will for a vey long time.

  21. Looks like Danny Snyder has started to wise up about going after useless high-priced free agents. Shanahan is having an effect on the skins

  22. ganadafan,

Uhhhhhh, Ithink you may be incaccurate on what you just said since the 4skins just signed Chris Chester. Here is what PFT had to say about him:

“Redskins agreed to terms on a five-year, $20 million contract with G/C Chris Chester. As they always do, the Redskins are overpaying for mediocre talent.”

Chester wasn’t considered a high-price FA, but he is now a highly Paid member of the 4skins. Care to revise your statement?

I’ll bet it’s refreshing! Gotta be the first time Snider hasn’t severely overpaid someone that plays about two-thirds of a season. Oh well, maybe they’ve decided to build from within, that should only take a decade or two!

  24. bison: two things. the skins slump has been going pretty much since dan snyder bought the team; or since the first joe gibbs era. so your cycle has been down for a pretty good while.

secondly: regarding the three super bowls, you had as much to do with the skins three as i have had to do with the eagles none. we both watched. how that makes you feel somehow superior is beyond me. when the phillies won the series in ’08 it didn’t make me any better a fan than the mets fans, it just rewarded my loyalty (and shut them up for a while).

and watching the signings thus far, it doesn’t look like the skins slump is about to end this year.
