Report: Braylon Edwards staying with Jets “won’t happen”

Missing out on Nnamdi Asomugha gave the Jets more money to spend elsewhere, but that money apparently won’t be spent to re-sign free agent receiver Braylon Edwards.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News quotes a source as saying, simply, “It won’t happen.”

That’s no surprise, as Edwards himself has said the Jets don’t want him. But Mehta writes that it’s less about the Jets not wanting Edwards and more about the Jets not wanting to spend the kind of money it’s going to take to re-sign him. The Jets have other priorities, including re-signing Eric Smith (which they just did) and re-signing Mark Brunell (which they’re expected to do this weekend).

Now the Jets will move on and look for another free agent wide receiver. And Edwards will look for a new team. The Vikings are said to be interested.
