With his vow to “whip the ass” of “the all-hype team,” Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has threatened to top his brother, Jets head coach Rex Ryan, as the NFL’s brashest coach. But Rob says his family has proven that it can do more than just talk.

Rob Ryan told NFL Network’s Albert Breer that he, his brother, and their dad, former NFL coach Buddy Ryan, can talk tough because they are tough.

“You can’t talk noise if you don’t have the players to back it up,” Ryan said. “We always walk the walk. Anybody that knows a Ryan knows they walk the walk. We don’t talk the talk, we walk it. Our guys are gonna be good, and we know it. So that ain’t talkin’. That’s just the [bleepin’] way it is.”

Cowboys COO Stephen Jones said Ryan is bringing exactly the kind of attitude the team needs, and comments like the “all-hype team” dig at the Eagles are just part of his personality.

“I laughed. I thought it was in good fun. It was competitive, and that doesn’t bother me a bit,” Jones said. “That’s part of what you get, when you get Rob. He’s got that type of personality. First of all, he’s a brilliant football guy, but he’s also very competitive, he’s gregarious and that’s good. That’s what you’re going to get, and it’s what we wanted.”

So far, the Cowboys’ fans seem to agree that Ryan was a good addition to the coaching staff. Just as long as his defense backs up his talk.
