Falcons’ Corey Peters carted off practice field

The Atlanta Falcons may have had a significant loss at today’s practice.

Corey Peters, a starting defensive tackle, suffered an apparent left leg injury and was taken off the field on a cart this morning, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

There’s no word on the extent of Peters’ injury, but Falcons coach Mike Smith is expected to give an update today.

The Falcons drafted Peters in the third round of last year’s draft, and he played in all 16 games, starting 15.

UPDATE: Coach Mike Smith says that Peters won’t need surgery, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. He’ll be back in a few weeks, according to Scout.com.
