Watching Saturday night’s games, I couldn’t help but think the jinx-inducing thought that there hadn’t been many serious injuries in this first week of preseason games.

There was a lot of fear that injuries would spike with so little practice time, but for the most part players avoided major problems.

Unfortunately, Raiders safety Hiram Eugene was an exception. He underwent surgery for a dislocated hip on Saturday. While the Raiders won’t talk about a timeline for his return, that sort of injury usually is season-ending.

Eugene was set to be Michael Huff’s backup this year. He will earn $2 million in the first year of a four-year contract.

In news that won’t surprise Raiders fans, wideout Chaz Schilens is hurt again. He had a healthy camp before hurting his knee Friday nigh and will now be evaluated on a “week-to-week” basis. Starting wideout Jacoby Ford has been out with a broken hand.
