A long Friday began with a post regarding a report from Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com regarding locker-room rumors in San Francisco that the Bears had made a trade offer for second-year safety Taylor Mays. The 49ers denied that the Bears made such an offer.

And a long Friday is coming to a conclusion with a post regarding a report from Michael C. Wright of ESPNChicago.com that the Bears indeed tried to get Mays, but that it’s now a “dead issue.”

Wright also reports that the Bears would have moved Mays from safety to linebacker.

Earlier this month, the Niners sent an e-mail to all teams indicating that Mays is available.
