Jon Runyan fears Michele Bachmann is like Terrell Owens

When Jon Runyan was an offensive tackle for the Eagles, he witnessed first-hand how Terrell Owens could tear down a team. Now Runyan is a Republican in Congress, and he’s concerned that one of his party’s presidential candidates could have the same affect on the GOP that T.O. had on the Eagles.

A Los Angeles Times profile of U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, who’s running for the Republican presidential nomination, calls her an outsider on Capitol Hill. As one example, the paper reports that Runyan, at a private meeting of Republicans, issued a warning about how the wrong personality can divide a team -- mentioning Owens by name, but referring to Bachmann.

A story in Politico also confirms that Runyan has brought up Owens as an example of how he and his fellow Republicans could be in trouble if they can’t be team players.

Owens is currently nursing a knee injury and unsure when or if he’ll play this season. But he sure does have a knack for keeping his name in the news.
