Vick: “You won’t hear me complaining” any more

AP

The Eagles backed off their initial diagnosis for Michael Vick on Monday, saying he had a hand “contusion” instead of a broken non-throwing hand.

And now Vick has backed off his initial criticism of the officials following Philly’s loss Sunday.

“The refs have to do their jobs and they have tons of things to look over,” Vick said Monday via the Associated Press. “I was kind of out of character and being too candid in that aspect. Ultimately, I have respect for the referees and their decision to make calls. You won’t hear me complaining about it no more.”

Vick continues to learn that anything he says will get an undue amount of attention, even if he has a fair point.  That’s potentially making Vick a little more media shy.

Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News notes that Vick didn’t do his usual radio show on Monday night.  The folks that run the show were told league rules prohibit Vick from participating, but that would only be true if he was recovering from a concussion.

  1. I agree. Vick would have been more in character if he had stepped in a poodle on his way to the huddle.

  2. Once defenses started forcing Vick right about halfway through last season, neither he nor Andy Reid seem to have an answer to help be Vick as effective as he was the first half of last year.

I really think he’s over-rated. An exciting, athletic QB isn’t always a great QB. I just don’t understand the love he gets.

  3. Even if he were right, talking about it publicly can backfire. The Steelers complained about the Ravens’ blocking schemes. But those schemes were legal and their complaints just helped other defensive coordinators game plan. Andy had already complained about Vick not getting the calls. Now defenders may just take the shot and hope they get away with it.

    Good…

  5. He could say…”The sky is blue”

And most of the country would say he’s a moron.

Just look at every Eagle headline on this web-site…

10 times the amount of hits than the other teams…most of wich are just trolls wanting to boast about “Karma” and “Couldn’t happen to a better person”….

Iggles fan here…it takes 30 minutes to read through the trollin’ to get to somebody worthy of a thumbs up/down.

    Unfortunate…the state of things.

  6. Hey PFT, did you guys know that there is a game on right now? Vick’s little bruised hand is more attention-worthy than a competitive rivalry game on MNF?

Apparently you agree. You’re commenting on Vick.

  8. The good news for Vick is that this story is now masking the fact that he left the game yesterday with a BRUISED NON THROWING HAND!!!
Maybe that is his money counting hand so he was worried…

  9. so many vick haters still out there. listen, the fact still remains, helmet to helmet and hits under the knees, are illegal when a QB is in the pocket. Michael vick is being targeted by referees, as they make no calls. yes, the eagles o-line is absolutely terrible, but that doesnt mean the QB should be on his ass every single play. so many late hits. the eagles will find their flow, and they’ll get hot. oh and by the way…LET THE HATERS CLICK DISLIKE.

  10. NFC East = Most Overrated Division in SPORTS

If your talent was as big as your tv markets, these games could be watchable. When was the last time anyone outside of D.C. was remotely interested in a Redskins game???

  11. “She’s not cryin’ anymore”
Billy Ray Cyrus including partial credit to Bill Parcells.
smidgen of credit to Vick for bringing back memories of Terry Glenn
Man, she sure was a great player………….

  12. Tigrrrr : No do overs for you!
    ———————————————

Do overs? What? Is this the playground or something? I haven’t heard that in years! Either way, Vick had good reason to complain. He took a lot of shots to the head and no flags were thrown, if I were him I’d be pissed too. Chad Henne took two fingers to the side of the helmet last week and Miami got 15 yards out of it. There’s obviously some inconsistency with this whole protecting the QB thing and I don’t blame Vick for venting some frustration about it

  13. Listening to the MNF pregame of Jackson,Johnson and Carter he doesn’t have to say anythig they will say it for him. Classless act by ESPN and their commendators. Race has to always be brought up and these three showed their racist side as all America could see . They owe everyother QB an explanation on why they care less about them. If hree white men acted as such they would be called racist…what do you call it when three black men say it. COME ON MAN!!!!!

  14. Selective public forgiveness has made Mike Vick soft. I miss the guy who strangled an injured pitbull to death. That can’t be easy to do. He was tough as nails.

  15. Cry baby…. I didn’t here rivers, cassell, or cutler complaining and all them take beatings on a regular bases. Ya know if ur sick of getting hit all the time try getting ur oline to protect u better and for god sakes throw the ball away instead of running around like a chicken with ur head cut off. My guess he is on the ir by week 7.

  16. I’m not sure what I’m more sick of……

    Michael Vick/Eagle relates articles

    or

Commentators attempting to make “clever” dog jokes about Michael Vick

I wish both would go away!

  17. Vick is right about his non calls. To be honest if this was romo or Brady everybody would be bashing the refs and the defenders. But it’s not , it’s Vick and he will never earn the respect he deserves because of his past. Which is ashame because since he has made his return to the NFL he has done nothing but be humble. He’s not lying here, he’s out there taking the hits and is entitled to his oponion about the game. I have more respect for Vick than anyone on here that just says hes a dog killer. Let it go. I hope he does keep his mouth shut And continues his success because then all of you haters will have nothing to bash him about.

  18. “Even if he has a fair point.”
What game did you watch?!?!? If ANY QB should be complaining about the refs from that game. it should be Eli Manning for the blatant facemask committed by Jason Babin that the refs ignored. Why no mention of that here and at ESPN? Eli not enough of a sociopath for you? The one player who REALLY should be complaining is JPP. He was practically date raped by the Eagles O line and NOT ONE HOLDING FLAG. Vick would been dead instead of a little boo-boo on his hand if the O line didn’t grab, tackle, and pull JPP’s jersey on every down they could. You really must be kidding with that “fair point” crap. Philly is dirtiest team in the League.

  19. I love how the headline intentionally removes the Ebonics.

But all Emmitt quotes are verbatim.

  20. Take off the skirt Vick. EVERY quarterback takes late hits without the flag. It happens every game on both sides. Guess what, the Giants GOT IN YOUR HEAD. That’s why you lost. You can expect every team you line up against to do the same thing now. Man up already. That 100 mil doesn’t make you special, it just means you have much bigger expectations you need to live up to.

Leave that man alone! He served his time, paid his debt… That being said..He is taking ALOT of unessesary hits. His o-line is the real problem.

He NEVER served a single day for torturing and killing dogs, including houehold pets, in horrific cruel ways. You need to read a little before you make uninformed statements like that. It makes you look like an ignoramus.

  22. He is probably still hurting from that block he got when he decided to turn into a defender after one of his interceptions. He got jacked pretty good.
His mouth is still one of his worst enemies. He needs to shut up and play.

  23. be interesting to hear Steve Young’s take on this. mobile qb’s will get less calls than say a helpless statue like Drew Bledsoe sitting back in the pocket….i guess the question is where to draw the line?

also how much should the nfl be protecting qb’s as opposed to other players. how about throwing defenders a bone and outlaw all blocks below the waist.

  24. Can’t believe nobody here picked up on the most significant part of this article:

“The folks that run the show were told league rules prohibit Vick from participating, but that would only be true if he was recovering from a concussion.”

It’s clear that the Reid and the Eagles are covering their butts, because Vick’s hand is fine. He got another concussion during the game. On the play where Canty hits Vick that we’ve seen a thousand times, Vick immediately grabs his HEAD with both hands.

Vick then goes to the lockerroom, comes back out, and goes back in? After x-rays showed a break in his hand? Ummm, no. Secondly, it was all just so fake the way they were all looking at his hand on the sideline.

Then, the next day… No break. Just a bruise? You watch, this “bruise” is going to keep Vick out 2-3 weeks. Vick got a bruise alright, but it’s on his brain, not his hand.

If the NFL isn’t looking into this already, they should be. Reid has a history of putting his players at risk. Dawkins has been rushed back from concussion, Westbrook, and most notably Stewart Bradley last year.

The Eagles have skeletons in their closet here, and the NFL should be taking a close look. I personally dislike Vick, but he should not have been playing at all on Sunday, and now they’re going to pay for it for the next couple of weeks.

  25. hahahaha

62 more dog jokes. How clever, witty, and original. I wondered if anyone would ever make a dog joke about Mike Vick. I cant believe only 62 people thought to do it this morning.

I love PFT and all of these brilliant readers.

$100 says I reach 100 dislikes! Bring it on haters

    ————————————————–

    Four additional points:

On his way back out onto the field from the lockerroom, Vick high fived Kafka with the “injured” hand.

When JPP had that vicious hit on Vick earlier in the game, he was extremely slow to get up and off the field, messing with his helmet.

They did NOTHING on the sideline to imobilize the “broken” hand, no ice, nothing. What they did do was take his helmet away and sit him on the bench.

Finally, Vick had to be yanked off the field during a FG attempt by an O-linemen.

  27. Vick’s gotta be smarter than this (admittedly, a real stretch). This is why catchers have to bite their tongues when they see a call go against them. It’s tough but it’s gotta be done.

Ref’s don’t forget, Mike, and your comment has already ben heard. Not sure if apologizing now helps.
