The Titans have the league’s top-ranked defense

It’s only been three weeks. The Titans have only played the Jaguars, Ravens, and Broncos.

With those disclaimers out of the way, Jerry Gray’s revamped Titans defense have been among the NFL’s early pleasant surprises. They rank first overall in yards allowed, and second in points allowed.

Losing line coach Jim Washburn hasn’t ruined their pass rush. The team’s pass defense has been among the best in the league.

Cortland Finnegan is playing like a Pro Bowler again with sticky coverage and big hits. Gray has moved Finnegan around more to great effect. The Titans have an underrated young cornerback duo in Jason McCourty and Alterraun Verner behind Finnegan.

The Titans remain a team that isn’t afraid to be physical. Last week, the Broncos called out Tennessee for “dirty” play last season. The two teams predictably proceeded to play a nasty game. McCourty joined PFT Live Tuesday to talk about it below.
