Justin Gage says no, so Titans sign Donnie Avery

The Titans brought in a slew of receivers for workouts this week in an effort to find someone to take Kenny Britt’s roster spot.

Ex-Titan Justin Gage was apparently the one they liked best, but Gage won’t be joining the team. David Glennon of the Tennessean spoke to Gage’s agent, who told him that he wasn’t able to agree to terms on a contract for his client’s return to Tennessee. It would be interesting to see how that conversation went, especially to hear if Titans G.M. Mike Reinfeldt did anything other than hang up the phone when informed that Gage wasn’t interested in continuing his career for the veteran minimum.

Reinfeldt and the team moved on Wednesday. They signed former Rams wideout Donnie Avery and placed Britt on injured reserve. Avery has worked out for several teams since being cut by the Rams during training camp. Avery, the top receiver selected in the 2008 draft, missed all of last season with a torn ACL and had 100 catches over his first two years with St. Louis.

David Clowney, Mardy Gilyard, Johnnie Lee Higgins, Tiquan Underwood, Buster Davis and Juaquin Iglesias were the other receivers to take a shot at landing a spot with the Titans.
