So when will Hank Williams, Jr. be ready for some football again?

ESPN is pulling Williams’ classic intro song from its broadcast of Monday night’s NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the country singer famous for the line “Are you ready for some football?” used an analogy to Adolf Hitler in discussing President Barack Obama. The item regarding ESPN’s decision to bench Hank Williams, Jr. from the long-time opening segment of Monday Night Football has generated a huge number of comments from PFT Planet.

And so, even though I don’t really care whether Hank Williams, Jr. or Hank Hill or Jonah Hill ask me if I’m ready for some football, it’s now a situation that bears watching.

I originally had assumed that it was a one-game thing. But I’ve done a little homework (for a change), and I’ve learned that it may not be. Thus, that’s the next development in this story: When, and if, Hank will be back.

Meanwhile, it’s a little confusing that ESPN would move so quickly to bench Bocephus, given that ESPN (which is owned by Disney) continued to keep him around after his notorious “I’m Hank Williams, Jr. bitch” incident in Memphis. Though what he said Monday was cartoonishly over the top, what he allegedly did in March 2006 (he was accused of grabbing a woman’s neck from behind and choking her) should be regarded as far more troubling.
