Three days before a big AFC East showdown with the Patriots, Jets coach Rex Ryan said his team had its best practice of the year today. That’s not necessarily a good sign, considering how the Jets did last season when they had their best practice of the year three days before playing the Patriots.
On December 3, 2010, the Jets were preparing to play the Patriots, and Ryan declared that day’s work to be the team’s best practice of the year. Three days later, the Jets lost to the Patriots, 45-3.
Last year’s great practice was marred by safety Jim Leonhard suffering a severe injury. This year’s great practice was, fortunately, injury-free.
“We had a great practice today,” Ryan said today. “Very, very few mental mistakes. Guys were bouncing around. We just looked crisp, we looked sharp out there. Great communication. You can tell by the way we hit the practice field today that we’re ready to play.”
Then again, Ryan thought the Jets were ready to play in last December’s loss to the Patriots, too.
