Tony Romo promises Super Bowl “at some point”

Overanalyzing Tony Romo is the No. 1 recreational sport in the Dallas metroplex.

Deion Sanders has been one of Romo’s biggest critics lately, and word has gotten to the Cowboys quarterback.

“Every once in a while you definitely hear things,” Romo said via Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “That’s not something you search out. Deion is welcomed to his own opinion about stuff. Deion is Deion. He is what he is. We’re going to go out here and we’re going to play good football.”

And then came the pull quote everyone is going to analyze in Dallas for the next 24 hours:

“This team is going to win a Super Bowl at some point. It’s going to be exciting when that time comes. And when we look back, we’ll know who was on what side of the fence during those tough moments. That’s exciting for us as competitors knowing that we get a chance to go out there and have a chance to win,” Romo said.

We like the confidence.  Perhaps when the Cowboys win that Super Bowl “at some point,” we’ll look back on October 13, 2001 2011 as the day where Romo took charge.

Or perhaps we’ll completely forget about what he said in another 24 hours when there is fresh Romonews to analyze.

  1. Indeed Romo, The Cowboys are probably going to win a Super Bowl in the future, you however, won’t be the QB when that happens.

  2. He is absolutely right. We will win a super bowl after we get rid of him and a few other people who can’t seem to pull it together in clutch time

  3. How has he “gotten” to Romo? He was asked a question on a conference call and he responded. What was he supposed to say?

  4. 3 Words: Random. Drug. Test. Sounds like Romo got a little lax during the bye week.

  5. This is no fresh news about Romo…

Between this site and Colin Cowhead (as Hulk called him) there is an endless stream of news about Romo, none of it fresh or enlightening.

  6. As a leader of a team…aren’t you supposed to say THIS year?? Why play the game if it’s not to win a championship. No matter if your team sucks or not – you ALWAYS work to win a superbowl THIS season!! What a joke

  7. So….. Tony Romo is saying his play will give the “Cowboys” a chance to draft Luck

  8. Frist to say get off Romo back he is doing the best he can the O does not fix his style he need a great running game to cut down on the number of passing he need to trough.

  9. Dude is beginning to step up.

Deion Sanders is legendary for his “taking the kid under my wing” and then kicking them under the bus when they don’t become what HE envisioned. Goes back years and some we’ve never heard of either because they were not ever capable or Deion dumped them mid-stroke over a personal issue.

Dez Bryant is an example of Deion’s crap and Dez has been man enough not to say one derogatory word about Mr Sanders all while Sanders berates him at every opportunity.

Tony will be fine and Deion will still run his mouth.

  10. Love the confidence, Tony. Boys have the talent to do it within the next 2-3 years. Unfortunately, the biggest problem is the clutch play of … Tony Romo. Get it turned around one week at a time

  11. I’ve got it. Dallas is not the right team for you Romo. You’re playing for the wrong Ryan. You need to go to New York and play for Sexy Rexy. There you can play for Rex and every year you’ll both boast of playing in the SB but will retire together without having a chance to play in a SB ever.

  12. I can hear Belichick now

“Men, the Super Bowl Champion-to-be Cowboys are coming to town………”

  13. Yeah when they finally draft a QB that can preform in a big game and get someone that can call the game…until then oh well.

Is there a occupy Dallas? Mabye Romo could go protest with them. Its not fair he doesnt have a trophy they all want everything handed to them.

  14. I’m sure they will at some point win SB, just not with this dumbass as the QB and not with the dumbass that is currently the GM

  15. Got to wonder if Romo will set an NFL record against that atrocious Boston defense? Van Brocklin and 554 yards, step aside for Tony!

  16. “This team is going to win a Super Bowl at some point”.

Too bad it won’t be with you at QB!
The cowboys will be battling the eagles for last place.

    HAIL SKINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. One day I’m going to win the lottery and when I do I’m going to be sooooo rich. Nice try Romo. You are what you are no matter how much of a infatuation the media has with you and your “Media’s Team”. Since NFL ticket there’s no such thing as “Americas Team”. We’re not force fed this team every Sunday anymore. No one outside of Dallas cares, trust me.

  18. Some confidence!! It’s not confidence when your main player says they’ll win superbowl “at some point”. One fine day…

  19. We like the confidence. Perhaps when the Cowboys win that Super Bowl “at some point,” we’ll look back on October 13, 2001 as the day where Romo took charge.

    ====================================

Tony is such a master tactician he had the whole thing planned over a year before he came into the league…(undrafted) he knew he’d one day lead the cowboys.

  20. I am a pats fan…Dont ever underestimate anyone on what they can do!! For all you know, you just need that luck to change once for him, and he could actually win one…Inspite of his goof ups, I do like him…

  21. I’m a Redskins fan… and I love Tony Romo. He’s become one of my favorite players. You can always, always, ALWAYS count on him to come through for my team.

  22. And Jerrah will be sure that everyone has a seat in the stadium to see it……”at some point”.

  23. I believe him …….

    He’s a Wisconsin boy ……. People from Wisconsin don’t lie …….

The real joke is that you don’t think that “at some point” includes this season.

NEW YORK, Oct. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — As summer ended, there was a sense of trepidation in the air for football fans. Would the arrival of fall also mean the arrival of professional football or would the lock-out continue? Luckily, all that was impacted was the pre-season and the season began on time. And, for the fifth year in a row, the Dallas Cowboys are the favorite team of adults who follow professional football. The Pittsburgh Steelers move up from 4th last year to number 2 on the list while the Green Bay Packers remain at number 3. Rounding out the top five favorite football teams are the New England Patriots who move up from number 6 to number 4 and “da” Bears who move up from number 9 last year to 5th this year.

These are some of the results of The Harris Poll of 2,462 adults surveyed online between September 12 and 19, 2011 by Harris Interactive.

Certain teams have moved up or down more than others this year. Some of the largest movers this year include:

    The Detroit Lions moved up 11 places on the list from number 30 last year to number 19 this year;

    The Miami Dolphins moved up 8 places from a tie for number 21 to number 13;

    The Oakland Raiders dropped 8 places, from a tie at number 17 to number 25;

Two teams moved up 7 places each – The Washington Redskins, from number 15 to number 8, and the New York Jets, from number 16 to a tie for number 9; and,

Two teams dropped 6 places each – the New Orleans Saints, from number 5 to number 11, and the Arizona Cardinals, from number 11 to a tie at number 17.

For the third year in a row, the Jacksonville Jaguars are at the bottom of the list.

  27. You know what Tony? You pull off a win against NE and I’ll start believing. The Patriots defense is not that strong. If you can’t put points up on the board, what the hell are you gonna do against Green Bays defense?

As far as our defense… good luck.

  28. As a fan I appreciate the confidence. I feel he is very competitive, even with the mistakes. This is the type of attitude that you have to have. Even if it never happens. I’m not in to negative opinions so I’m not on the hate Romo bus.

If the haters ended up being wrong. How big or should I say little of a deal is that?

No one will really care if the naysayers end up being wrong. Hating on someone or something just doesn’t seem like a manly way of thinking. Go Cowboys!

  29. “…we’ll know who was on what side of the fence during those tough moments.” Sounds like he’s making a list, and checking it twice, he wants to know who’s naughty or nice.

  30. Better yet…his quote a few weeks ago when he was “hurt” was even better. He said he only has to “tough it out” 16 weeks a year. So I guess when said that he figured no playoff games in his future lol

  31. I sometimes wonder if my love for the Redskins is becoming secondary to my hatred of the Cowboys…..if I’m a bigger Cowboy-hater than I am a Redskins fan….its possible….

  32. The world is going to end at some point too………………just not in his our our lifetimes. Romo had his chance 4 years ago, but thought it was far more important to go gallivanting off to Costa Rica with Jessica Simpson than to study film and get ready for a huge playoff game he had 2 weeks to get ready for.

  33. Also bound to happen at some point:

Antonio Cromartie catches up on child support.

    Tim Tebow goes 18-22

Roger Goodell and James Harrison go on a double date.

Rex Ryan learns to love socks

Bill Belicheck ditches his hoodie for a muscle shirt

    Marty Morningwhig chooses offense first

Matt Hasselback this time actually “gets the ball and he’s gonna score”

Brett Favre’s nephew will stop using twitter.

Until then Romo, keep throiwing td passes cause I got you in my fantasy league. Good luck with that Super Bowl thing though.

  34. I’ll tell ya, I said I’ll tell ya all what… Tony Romo will be more famous than all of us ever will, combined.

There’s only a FEW teams that would rather have the QB they currently have, instead of Romo.

    Stop lying to yourselves.

  35. That quote is what is wrong with Romo. As a skins fan, I actually think he is a very good quarterback. Better than Rex for sure. However, it is that ‘aw shucks’ personality that kills him in crunch time. Win a Super Bowl ‘at some point’? If he had a true fire in his belly, there would be more urgency on THIS year, THIS game, THIS drive. Romo is too content and wait for NEXT year (or the next)

  36. I’m a Redskins fan… and I love Tony Romo. He’s become one of my favorite players. You can always, always, ALWAYS count on him to come through for my team.

    ———————————————————

Really. 18-16. You realize that the Cowboys have won 20 of the last 27 games against the Redskins, right?

  37. Romo had his chance 4 years ago, but thought it was far more important to go gallivanting off to Costa Rica with Jessica Simpson than to study film and get ready for a huge playoff game he had 2 weeks to get ready for.

    —————————————————

It was a first round bye. Cowboys had two weeks off and it was before the wild card games.
Nobody could possibly know who the Cowboys were going to play in the divisional round at that time and there was no game film to study. Nice try, though.

  38. Better yet…his quote a few weeks ago when he was “hurt” was even better. He said he only has to “tough it out” 16 weeks a year.

    —————————————-

No, he said you only get to play 16 times a year so you don’t want to miss any games. And he’s right. Only 16 games are guaranteed for any team.

  39. HAAAAAAAAA! Maybe he should guarantee a playoff win first! He could also guarantee me a million dollars and I still wouldnt believe him. His opinion means as much as a weather man saying its gonna rain without a cloud in the sky. (BTW it never rains)

  40. Have you all seriously lost your minds?

What fan of any team doesn’t want to hear their QB say they will win a Super Bowl? It’s a simple as that. I’d expect every QB to say the same thing.

This would be more of a headline quote if Tony said he DOESN’T believe they can win a Super Bowl.

  41. OK all kidding aside but really folks, Even Stevie Wonder could see Tony Romo is NOT taking the Cowboys or any team to the Super Bowl or even the Peach Bowl. The guy does not have what it takes. I mean how more seasons to the Cowboys want to waste on this guy? Signed Jerry Jones.

  42. Just woke up here in Saudi Arabia and spit tea all over my monitor…

Child please…The only way that you are going to the SB is a someone’s guest in a corporate suite…

  43. When he wins wins a Superbowl, where will all of you D-Bags be? Most likely in your Mom and Dad’s basement snapping your carrots. Look, most of you never played football, and can’t stand the fact that the guys is probably way better that what your team has as a QB (i.e. Rex Grossman). So, lighten up wizard dicks.

  44. He can buy a ticket any time he wants. He will never play with this team in a super bowl, he sucks. He is scared of his shadow. Thank goodness this is only football and not war, can you imagine this guy in the military? He would drop his own hand grenade.

  45. Sounds like either

    1) he painted himself into a corner during the interview; or

    2) the line of questioning was aimed at getting him to say something, well, like what he said.

I hate the Cowboys, so I look for just about any reason to hate on Romo or Jerry Jones or Cowboys fans in general. But this is just silly.

  46. i dont understand why people have to make the same comment over and over. Do you guys not read the other comments before making a comment?? I mean i read over and over “yeah this team will go to the super bowl but not with romo” c’mon man! Tony and you fans can both take this advice if you dont have anything smart to say then keep your mouth shut!!
We might as well throw out a suck for luck because we cant go a single post without 5 people saying that!

Howley1 you are a moron. If someone intends the claim to be for this season, he does not need to say “at some point”. Romo would have said they’ll win the championship this year (if he had any confidence of a leader) if he wanted to include this season. He’s trying to make a statement but not sticking his neck out.

Get a clue before spouting crap all over this board.

Absolutely agree 100%. A winner would respond by saying they’ll win it all THIS year. But if he does not want to claim that at least don’t say some lame assed thing like “at some point”.

  50. I definitely thought Romo had guts when he played hurt against the niners and Skins. Truth be told, Cowboys roster is good enough to challenge for superbowl. That is why Romo’s claim of “at some point”, instead of “this year” is lame. I would think Jones and the team would go WTH, we can win it this year not at some point.

  51. no matter how much of a infatuation the media has with you and your “Media’s Team”.

    I like it.

    The Media’s Team.

    Spot on.

  52. Who will win a Super Bowl first: Phillip Rivers or Tony Romo? Thumbs up for Rivers, down for Romo.

(Neither is a perfectly acceptable response.)

  53. i still dont understand why ppl talk so much smack on jerry jones and romo(if youre a fan of the cowboys that is)… jerry jones won 3 super bowl ring!!!!!! 3… and we know that talent isnt enough to win… (i.e. the excuse for dallas the last 5 years) so what jerry did was relevant and is amazing! dont know many idiots sporting 3 rings… and as for tony… ill ride with him till he retires… does everyone forget what the boys have gone through since aikman… how quickly we forget 4 straight 5-11 seasons with ryan leaf and randall cunningham … and oh yea chad hutchison at qb… you ppl are rediculous… the cowboys have a real chance of winning every game they play and you want to get rid of the #1 reason they have a shot at the superbowl

  54. Dudes. Grow a brain. He said “at some point”. Well, at some point, I would think anyone and everyone SHOULD win one.

    ______________________
you know we dont play in Boston right? I suspose since we you call yourself New York even though you play in New Jeresy then every team does that. If our defense is so atrocious why couldn’t you beat us last week?

  56. You know, seriously, how many times do you have to slam your head in a car door to make yourself believe that “at some point” really means “not this year but some other time”?

  57. Romo is correct. There will be another Super Bowl for the Cowboys……..but, not until he and Jerry are gone. Romo is a loser and Jerry is a slow growing cancer that is killing this great team. When they both are gone a big cheer will be heard from Cowboy fans everywhere.
