Eric Mangini has been chatting with Dolphins owner

E. Manginisesame

Eric Mangini denied last week that he was contacted by the Eagles for a consulting gig. It will be interesting to see if he denies the latest report out of the Miami Herald.

Armando Salguero reports that Mangini regularly talks to Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, giving feedback about the state of the team. Mangini also reportedly had a meeting scheduled with Miami last January about a consultant job.

Salguero writes repeatedly that Mangini is not and will not be a candidate to coach in Miami, going as far as to capitalize NOT. But his relationship with Ross, which started when Mangini was with the Jets, begs further questions.

Is Mangini being paid for his consulting? If so, isn’t that a conflict of interest with his current job at ESPN? If he’s not being paid, then what exactly is going on here?

Mangini has done a nice job at ESPN, but this makes you wonder how long he’ll stay out of football. A man can only take sitting next to Skip Bayless so long.
