Chris Cook arrested for domestic assault

Minnesota’s ugly 2011 season just got a little uglier.

Vikings cornerback Chris Cook was arrested for domestic assault on Saturday morning at 4:06 a.m. CT, as originally reported by KFAN in Minneapolis.

A public Hennepin County jail record confirms that a man named Chris Cook with the same birthday as the Vikings cornerback was arrested on two charges: domestic assault and intentional attempts to inflict bodily harm on another. Both charges are misdemeanors. He was arrested by the Eden Prarie Police Department.

Cook, who has quietly played well this year, is due back in Court Monday morning at 8:15 a.m.  It remains to be seen if coach Leslie Frazier allows Cook to suit up in the meantime.  Cook was also arrested and ultimately cleared on a gun charge last year.

The Vikings are already likely to be short their best cornerback Antoine Winfield, who is doubtful for the game.

UPDATE: Tom Pelissero of espn1500.com reports Cook could be detained in jail until his court hearing Monday.

UPDATE II: The Vikings confirmed the arrest via statement:

“The Minnesota Vikings are aware of the incident involving Chris Cook. We take this matter very seriously and are still gathering all the details of the incident. We will not have any further comment at this time.”

  1. Same guy that got arrested last spring for “brandishing a handgun”. I think he’s got some serious anger issues.

  2. This might be just the first step in Frazier losing control of the team. Until he can get a little fiery these players will walk all over him unfortunately because he is a “players coach”.

So you think the Packers will take it easy on us in the 2nd half?

    Signed,

    A disappointed Viking fan

  4. I of course could be 100% wrong but given that GB has a rookie going up against Jared Allen and wants to keep the Vikes D on the field a lot the first half, I’m not looking for a blowout – at least early. I think there’ll be a lot of short yardage attempts and the Packers will try to run the ball.

And AP could keep you in game.

Second half, all bets are off.

  5. He looked to be one of the few bright spots/surprises this season. I wouldn’t start this guy Sunday regardless of availability.

    Extremely disappointed.

  6. And how is all of this suppose to help Ziggy with his threats to relocate help cajole the state legislature into coughing up 300 mil for a new stadium with this unruly bunch of mutts serving as PR nightmare?

I wouldn’t doubt that Frazier plays him Sunday just out of shear desperation to beat the Champs.

How’s your day going for ya scudbutt?

  7. At least Viking fans are concerned about this. Fans of some teams don’t see stuff like this as a big deal, depending on who the player is.

    (See also: Underwood, Brandon)

  8. Another dumbass not learning from his mistakes. You can’t play him if he is available, this is the time for Leslie to send a message and get his team back.

  9. Oops……forgot rule #1- if you go to bed by midnight, you’ll almost never get in trouble.” 98% Of stupid behavior leading to police intervention happens drunk between midnight and 6am.

  10. The Packers receivers don’t like guys that beat up girls. I think they will remind the Vikings of that fact on Sunday.

  11. Good luck with this horror show Leslie Frazier. I bet A.P. is starting to wish he had tested free agency.

  12. “How’s your day going for ya scudbutt?”

Just fine. I’m a Packers fan. Which you would know if you did anything besides troll.

  13. This is going to be just comical. Its going to suck to have to sit and watch all the packer fans at our place make the dome like their home. Sad times in minny this year. These players are unbelievable. The coach has lost this team. We need a coach that they will respect and play for. This is going to be a sad and pathetic football weekend in the twin cities this weekend. Well at least my sons pee wee team is undefeated.

  14. It’s getting harder and harder to root for this team. Every team has their share of losers, but it stands out a lot more when the team is terrible. He will not play Sunday and it will be noticed. Still excited to see Ponder though.

I’m sure Packer receivers aren’t familiar with this as most domestic violence complaints in Wisconsin are from men being beaten by their women….

  20. Is anyone really surprised a Viking was arrested. The History of this inept franchise is all to clear.

.Why the Vikings are the most inept team in professional sports history

    ** 4 Superbowl losses

** 5 straight losses in NFC Championship games

**Gary Anderson who had just completed the first perfect regular season in NFL history (not missing a single extra point or field goal attempt the entire year), missed a 38-yard attempt with less than 2 minutes remaining in NFC championship game that most likely puts Vikes in Superbowl in 98.

**in 2003 Arizona’s last second touchdown on 4th and 28 against Vikings eliminated Vikings from playoffs. The moment of Arizona’s touchdown was actually the first moment the entire season in which the Vikings hadn’t led their division. The Vikings became the second team in football history to miss the playoffs after getting off to a 6-0 start

**The “Hail Mary” pass Drew Pearson caught against the Vikes in 75 NFC championship to give Dallas the win in the final minute.

    **Jim Marshall’s wrong way run

**The Herschel Walker trade in which Vikings gave Dallas three 1st rounders, three 2nd rounders, plus a 3rd and a 6th rounder in addition to 5 players. Walker lasts only 3 seasons in Minnesota
** In 1999 the Vikings select Michigan State Defensive end Dimitrius Underwood with the 29th overall pick. Underwood spent one day in camp and walked out. It was eventually shown Underwood suffered from mental Illness. The ineptness of the Vikings comes into play because his coaches at Michigan State warned NFL scouts that he was not mentally stable enough to play in the NFL.
    .
**Vikings despite being favored, The Vikings lose 41-0 in NFC championship game in 2000.
**Green Bays Antonio Freeman makes one of the all time great miracle catches in overtime to defeat Vikings in 2000
**2003 In yet another move of ineptness the Vikings are on the board in the first round of the 2003 draft with the 7th overall pick. The Vikings missed the deadline to make the pick. Meanwhile, the two teams immediately behind Minnesota on the board Jacksonville and Carolina rushed their cards to the podium in New York and made their picks before the Vikings.
** With 19 seconds remaining in the 2010 NFC Championship game the Vikings call a timeout on 3rd and 10 at the Saints 33 yard line. They had one timeout remaining, so the smart money was on them running the ball and hoping to gain four to five yards — thus setting up an approximately 45-yard field goal as time expired to win the game. On that next play the Vikings are penalized for 12 men in the huddle. The penalty pushed them out of FG range and most likely cost them a trip to the Superbowl. See below for nail in the coffin on the next play
**2010 Favre`s 4th down 4th quarter interception with seconds remaining vs Saints in NFC championship puts New Orleans in Superbowl.
    * Between 1986 and 1990, nine Vikings were arrested for drunken driving, and receiver Buster Rhymes was treated for cocaine dependency.

    * In 1988, citing “overwhelming negative response” from the public, the Vikings released convicted sex offender Mossy Cade.

    * In 1994, Joey Browner is charged with third-degree rape in Minneapolis. Charges are later dismissed.

    * In 1995, running back Keith Henderson pleaded guilty to three counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

    * 1995, Star Minnesota Vikings quarterback Warren Moon is arrested in Houston and charged with misdemeanor assault after he slapped his wife, choking her “nearly to the point of unconsciousness.” Moon is later acquitted after his wife refuses to testify. A few months previously, Moon had been charged with sexual assault by a Vikings cheerleader in a case that was settled out of court.

    * That year, Moon allegedly struck his wife in the head with an open hand and choked her to the point where she almost passed out, according to police in Missouri City, Texas.

She did not press charges and, although the case went to trial anyway, Moon was found not guilty.

    * In 1995, the Star Tribune reported that the Vikings paid $150,000 to head off a sexual harassment suit against Vikings assistant coach Richard Solomon, coach Dennis Green’s closest friend on the staff.

    * In 1996, James Harris, Minnesota Vikings defensive end, pleads guilty to third-degree assault for beating his wife.

    * In 1999, safety Orlando Thomas was disciplined by the NFL after pleading no contest to the misdemeanor charge of simple battery on his wife.

    * In 2002, receiver Randy Moss knocked a traffic cop to the ground with his car, then was charged with drug possession. He later reached an out-of-court settlement with the officer.

    * In 2002, two women claimed to be sexually assaulted at the team’s Arctic Blast fundraiser.

    * In 2004, linebackers E.J. Henderson and Michael Nattiel and tight end Steve Farmer were arrested after officers said they saw the players assaulting a man outside the Tabu nightclub in Minneapolis.

    * In 2005, running back Onterrio Smith was suspended by the NFL for a year for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, two months after being caught at an airport with The Original Whizzinator, a kit designed to circumvent drug tests.

    * Also in 2005, coach Mike Tice was fined by the NFL for scalping Super Bowl tickets, and defensive tackle Kevin Williams was arrested on charges of domestic abuse.

    * Wide receiver Kelly Campbell driving a stolen SUV high with a stolen and weapon, with 16 grams of marijuana

    * Daunte Culpepper’s SUV involved in drug arrest

    * Former running back Ted Brown was indicted by a Mille Lacs County grand jury in late 2003 on first-and third-degree criminal sexual conduct charges after an incident at a team function on Lake Mille Lacs. He remains free on bail.

Brown is charged in a February 2003 incident during the Vikings’ annual Arctic Blast event at Eddy’s Resort. Prosecutors allege that Brown forced sex on an intoxicated woman who was unable to consent.
    *Koren Robinson getting a DUI
    * Tommy Kramer DUI
    * Donald Igwebuike involved in drug trafficking
    * Robert Tate threatening to have the mother of his child beaten up by his cousin
    * Kenny Mixon not 1, not 2, but 3 DUI’s while with the team
    * Former Executive Mike Kelly getting a DUI going to bail out players at the Arctic Blast
    * Denny Green Sexual Harassment Allegations
    * EJ Henderson DUI * *While every team makes draft blunders I especially like this one. In 2005 the Vikings passed on Aaron Rodgers … twice. Once, to draft wide receiver Troy Williamson at No. 7 and again at No. 18 picking defensive end Erasmus James. Neither lived up to their hype and even more noteworthy both aren’t on the roster
    * January 2011 Vikings De Everson Griffin being arrested 2 times within 3 days. He was Drunk in public and then 3 days later was tased by the police after trying to run away after being pulled over for suspicion of felony battery.
    * 2010 Vikings trade a 3rd round draft pick to Patriots for WR Randy Moss. Moss is cut 4 games later

*Oh, yeah, that whole sex boat scandal too.
*2011 Former Vikings qb Warren Moon came up with this genius quote regarding Auburn QB Cam Newton. ” A lot of the criticism he’s receiving is unfortunate and racially based, Moon told Freeman. “ thought we were all past this. I don’t see other quarterbacks in the draft being criticized by the media or fans…”
*2011 September 2011 Vikings safety Tyrell Johnson arrested for suspicion Impaired driving
*2011 October Vikings Cornerback Chris Cook was arrested on two charges: domestic assault and intentional attempts to inflict bodily harm on another.

I`m sure there are things I missed but this is why

I believe the Vikings are the most inept team Professional sports history

  21. Frazier had better bench Cook, to let him and the team know, that being a smart and disciplined team matters.

IMO, Frazier out to bench Kevin Williams for his remarks as well.

I’ll bet nothing happens, and the inmates run the asylum.

    I just changed my prediction.

    Pack 41 Vikes 3

  22. A sad compilation.

However, about “Favre`s 4th down 4th quarter interception” don’t feel like the Lone Ranger.

  23. Chris’ friends and relatives warned him about entering into a domestic situation with Miss Demeanor. It never turns out well.

  25. @mountaindont

so glad to see youve done your research. now go do every other 31 teams and there criminal histories and draft busts dating back that far. youll be surprised

  26. “I of course could be 100% wrong but given that GB has a rookie going up against Jared Allen and wants to keep the Vikes D on the field a lot the first half”

FYI Marshall Newhouse was a rookie LAST SEASON. So yeah, you’re 100% wrong. Newhouse will hold his own against Allen. Lots of rave reviews on him coming out of camp. He’s an upgrade IMO over Clifton in everything except vet exp.

  27. Just another day, I can’t believe I’m going to write this, Packers 56, Vikings 17. Wait, this is kinda set up for an upset, think about it, Ponder beats Packers on first start giving Mn hope for the future. Go Vikings!!!!!!! That’s better.

  28. @mountaindont

at least Minnesota arrests their athletes that commit crimes. Wisconsin is notorious for letting their packers get away with damn near anything in the 90s. case in point: Favre and Chmura. they loved those 16 year old girls. nobody said a word. how about the stories i hear from the 90’s when packers in bars would start fights randomly. cops let them go.

bravo to Minnesota for arresting these punks.

  29. deconjonesbitchslap you are another one of the purple twits rubes who can’t help making a raging fool out of yourself.
Fact: Mark Chmura was arrested for 3rd degree sexual assault on April 8, 2000 and subsequently acquitted of all (that means all for dummies like you) charges.
I won’t split hairs with you over the fact the girl was 17 not 16 as you probably intentionally embellished to make your pathetically weak recrimination against the Packers more impactful. He was work no matter what the age.
Oh and if a worthless piece of human debris like you are going to level accusations about stories of Packer is bar fights, you need to make them with evidence, not flimsy hearsay.

So VikePrincess, I didn’t read where you as a woman objected to Cook beating up on girls or as far as that goes any man doing it. Do you condone it or is it simply a case of you turning a blind eye to it because Cook is one of your precious vikequeers and your deep seated hatred for the Packers won’t allow you to be intellectually honest. Perhaps it’s because you’re not a women, just posing as one on line to shelter yourself from hard line criticism that most men won’t level against a woman? The rest of the Packers, in all of recorded history, are angels and saints.

Get over yourselves. And if GB loses any game from now to the end of 2014, you’d better be ready for a very large crow shoved down your throats. The bar is pretty damn high for you and your Holy Packers. And if by absolute miracle, the Vikings beat Green Bay tomorrow, I’ll be staying up all night partying, watching every single post on any football article to slam you Packers Punks if you dare to speak.

And I hope Minny cuts Cook tomorrow and signs Assante Samuel. I’m sick of the BS too. But all of your ‘queens’ talk is just tired and old. Find a new line, will ya?

  37. This is just another conspiracy against the vikings. The NFL was so worried that the vikings would defeat the packers that they paid millions to set up chris cook so he wouldnt be able to play. After all he is the second coming of Deion Sanders. With the slam dunk stadium deal the nfl needed to ensure the voting public would not approve of a new stadium. The refs have also been paid off to make sure that the vikings never get a 1st down the whole entire game.
The refs also will not be allowed to flag the packers on any play. Since all the vikings faithful have vanished since the team has been lousy I figured i’d make this ridiculous post for them.

  38. @theripster30

And which team, pray tell, do you support? Perhaps @mountaindont could put a list together for your team. I’m sure one could be compiled that was equally as long.

Example: If you’re a Packers fan, 22 years without a play-off appearance comes to mind. Johnny Jolly. Mark Chamura. Brett Favre’s antics… oh, any number of things. AJ Hawk flipping off his own guys, getting fined $10K while Woodson throws him under the bus – to pick something I happened to see this week.

mountaindont seems to have an incredible amount of time to waste. Have him pull the stats together for whichever team you support.

I, of course, have better things to do.

  39. Fact: Mark Chmura was arrested for 3rd degree sexual assault on April 8, 2000 and subsequently acquitted of all (that means all for dummies like you) charges.
I won’t split hairs with you over the fact the girl was 17 not 16

Well, THAT makes it better! Thank goodness you weren’t too low of human to split those…err..umm…”hairs”. Lmao! As if creeping on a 17 year old makes it ok.

Get a life. And that goes for all the Pack empty lifers on this thread. I know the Pack is boring, even when they do something semi-interesting like win a Super Bowl, and there are hardly any stories about them worth reading, but obsession doesn’t do justice to what you people have.

  40. purplehayseuss

lol another aloof queens fan. Are you aware hornung won championships? He obviously had his priorities somewhat straight. I’m sure the Pack will lose in the next 3 years, eventually. That’s ok because unlike the vikes, the Pack are winners. Whether you like it or not, the Pack will always be winners. Unlike the queens, we respect the game of football and know it’s any given sunday. You queens fans don’t understand that the future is going to be just as bright as the past and present is. The queens sb is tomorrow and I know your life revolves around an upset. You know the queens are going down bad tomorrow, so don’t be ridiculous.. seriously. What you call being a ‘punk’, i call being brutally honest.

BTW.. Is it really in the queens best interest to trade another draft pick for another player over the age of 30 during another duration of being losers for the foreseeable future? I say go for it. vikes stink regardless.

  41. @VikesPrincess, you are a gem! Keep the faith, even if this team always finds a way to disappoint.

Go look at my blog you dodo. I most definitely am a woman. And I sure don’t hold many of these football players in high regard. Out of curiosity, do you even TRY to employ logic?

I’m supposed to get all weepy and wail about the injustice of women being beaten? Well – here’s a pointer: a woman has the power to walk away when a man exhibits anger issues.

She also has the power to not settle for some loser who treats her like crap. If one doesn’t have self-esteem, one makes poor choices and aligns oneself with a waste of space like Cook.

The VERY sad truth about this situation is that the woman he choked is very likely to take him right back. What am I supposed to do about that? I can’t stop her, so I continue to do what I already do, which is financially support shelters in Minneapolis for battered women & children.

From the beginning I said bench him & dock his pay. He absolutely should be punished. If evidence comes out that the charges are accurate (note I don’t care if he’s acquitted or not) then cut him and don’t look back.

You really should try debating with someone else. Aren’t you tired of looking petty and bested?

    +++++++++++++++

Oh, ok. How does Wipings sound?

  48. It speaks volumes about our society that “domestic assault and intentional attempts to inflict bodily harm on another” are misdemeanors.

  49. Wow… So much dumb crap on this list. Where do I start? Well, let’s start with Mr. Unoriginal himself, mountaindont….

So you include charges that were dismissed because of evidence that proves the defendant innocent (Browner), a journeyman RB who was with the Vikings for 1 year and hadn’t been with the team for 3 when the charges were filed (Henderson), a bad trade (should we review the John Hadl trade?), players getting DUIs (do you know how many of last year’s Packers had DUIs?), drug possesion (same question), players getting arrested for defending a friend they saw being assaulted (I’m sure a Packer would just walk on by), bad draft picks (are you kidding me??), Mossy Cade (would you like the link to the statement from the Packers saying they would welcome him back?), and bad finishes to playoff games (did we forget Rodgers vs Cards?).

And the 2005 draft? Yeah….. Because the Vikings were definitely in need of a QB. All they had was 28-yo Daunte Culpepper, coming off a 4700yd, 39 TD, 110 QB rating season. In case you didn’t know, Rodgers has never posted any of those numbers…. Should the Packers draft a QB in the 1st this year? Nah, the Packers never make mistakes… Mandarich instead of Sanders? Harrel instead of Leon Hall? Ahmad Carroll instead of Bob Sanders? Nick Barnett instead of Asomugha? Javon Walker instead of Ed Reed? Yeah…..aren’t you a genius.

Let me guess….. You were once a Butternut Mighty Midget, right? Only a Wisconsin town would call themselves the Mighty Midgets……

  50. Why do some of you even bother to respond to slander and lies the viking people spew?

They do it to distract from the topic, in this case Cook’s arrest. The 6th viking arrest this year(click on Turd Watch at the top of the page).

Let people know that the vikling people are slanderers that lie and leave it that.

  51. Moving on to the ripster…..

So it’s okay to be a terrible human being if you play on a team that wins a trophy? I guess we know why it’s just rumors of bad behavior coming from Queen Bay.

The peckers will always be winners? The future is just as bright as the past? So, we can expect another 25 years of the peckers averaging a 6-10 record? Oh, you mean because they were once champs, then they will always be winners…. Gee, I didn’t know that the Lions have been winners all these years. Matt Millen was the GM of a winner!!

So, unlike us, you pecker fans know that it’s any given sunday, and that’s why you know the Vikings are going down bad tomorrow. Ummmm….. So are you intentionally contradictory, or just amazingly dense?

Maybe you should have a sober person review your posts for you….

I have seen enough of your posts to know that you turn a blind eye to the failings of the peckers and allow your hatred for the Vikings to cloud any intellectual honesty you could muster. You should look to fixing yourself before calling out anyone else.

Let me guess….. You were once a Butternut Mighty Midget, right? Only a Wisconsin town would call themselves the Mighty Midgets……

Well…….here we go again. Typical bitter and frustrated Viking fan. Whenever confronted with reality they can’t remain silent. They must try to come back with the same ol’ name-calling and insults. Another thing they can’t accept is the plurality of all things Minnesota and Wisconsin….no two states have closer DNA…but they think they are “special” somehow, a false positive in their consumed twelve-pack superiority complex confirmation analysis held every night.

I’ll come down to your level for a minute, just so you can see how stupid you sound. How are these for fearsome mascot names:

“Awesome Blossoms” (Blooming Prairie, MN.,) or, “Spuds” (Moorhead, MN.)

Why aren’t these in Wisconsin? How DARE they be in Minnesota!

Dude, this is as close to a classic example of projection as you can get. This is an article about the Vikings, yet who comments first? A Packer fan. Followed by the usual suspects of Packer fans that follow and Vike fans should remain silent? What the hell is in that cheese anyway?

You know about the Blossoms, huh? Yeah, that’s another good one. How does the football team derive any pride from that… “Go Blossoms!!” Is Mayim Bialik the mascot?

But you are actually forgetting my favorite one. the Aitkin (pronounced like aching) Gobblers. Yeah…. And ten miles down the road is Deerwood. No HS kid has ever had fun with that one…..

BTW…. Reread your post. I do believe that your little rant can be accurately attributed to the tone you put forth. After you have come to grips with that, take that message you put forth and go back to the rest of that first post. Do you see any superior-mindedness from a Packer fan being called out by a Viking fan there? Maybe it’s certain Packer fans who can’t come to grips with the reality that nearly every incident that supposedly shows how inept the Vikings are has its mirror in Packer history. Hmmmm…..
