Carson Palmer’s Raiders debut didn’t go too well

Getty Images

Jason Campbell has never looked so good to Raiders fans.

After Kyle Boller threw three interceptions in the first half, Carson Palmer replaced him . . . and threw three interceptions of his own in the second half.

The Chiefs won 28-0 in Oakland Sunday in a game that changes the way we think about the AFC West race.

Suddenly, the Chiefs don’t look so out of it at 3-3.  The Raiders, who have been as consistent as any team this year, suddenly looked like the Raiders of old at home.   Oakland’s AFC West winning streak is over.

The Chiefs, led by two picks by Brandon Flowers, have played good defense the last three weeks to even their record. They have a big Monday night game against San Diego next week.

Palmer finished 8-of-21 for 116 yards and three interceptions.  It’s not fair to judge Palmer after he’s only been with the team for half a week, but Oakland’s decision to play Palmer at all shows what a big game this was for Oakland.

Running back Darren McFadden left with a foot injury and never returned. He has a bye week to get healthy, but no player is more important to the Raiders than McFadden.

The complexion of the Raiders organization changed a lot Tuesday when they added Palmer. The complexion of the AFC West changed just as much after this humbling loss for Oakland.

  1. No excuses here…Chiefs have a bunch of injuries too and they came to play. Hopefully the Raiders can rest up and figure things out (and fire Kyle Boller).

Well done Chiefs. See you again later this year. Thanks to the Chargers choking, the Raiders barely showing up, and the Chiefs and Broncos winning, this division is wide open.

  2. yes this was his first game, and yes Palmer will get better as he finds a rhythm and gets back into NFL shape.

    but-

his arm strength looks weak. his pick 6 was a jumped route but damn that throw was weak. he fluttered many throws out there, like his last INT.

his decision making is still highly questionable. some trade.

  3. I guess the shine did come off of Al’s bandwagon today. I just love the way the rayduhs just layed down and self-destructed today. I enjoy it more every time they do it.

  4. 1 pick wasn’t his it was the receiver dropping the ball, the other 2 were ugly.

He’d be 13-21 if the receivers could actually hang on to the ball

  5. Stunning what little a few first rounders get ya nowadays. Roy Williams trade? Palmer? They throw picks around like Joe Banner at a draft party.

  6. From a baltimore fan…what exactly did you expect from boller?? Your lucky your tight ends aren’t decapitated by now

  7. Should have been lousy at Cinci, gotten cut but kept the $9 million, and then went to another team and gotten more than what he is getting now for being horrible.

  8. Carson had some zing on the ball, i think the bye week will help him. And it couldn’t come at a better time. I think half the team was hurt, only suited up 2 CB’s, and the Chiefs only got 2 offensive scores. Mcfadden hurt slowed the offense down. Boller looked like Boller. Palmer, even with the 3 picks, looked like what we need. The WR’s just need to get used to catching pro style passes. Hats off to the Chiefs D, they adapted early and made the plays they needed to make.

  9. Could have gone a lot worse though. That last INT wasn’t on him, you get your hands on the ball you’ve got to catch it bub

  10. Todd Haley, we’re going to remember that you tried to run up the score.

It’s going to come back and bite you in the ass.

  11. Bengals fan here – who acknowledges that it’s very unrealistic to expect Palmer to be on his game at this point – but this really is a LOL considering the polls showing that something like 35% of Raider fans being certain they would win the Super Bowl this year via the addition of Carson..
Carson has never even won a playoff game.
He won’t likely do so this year either.
    Super Bowl? hahaha

  12. The Raiders had a knee jerk reaction to Jason Campbell breaking his collarbone. Even if Carson Palmer played well for the rest of the season (and I have serious doubts about that based on the way he played over the last few seasons in cincy) the only way they could justify trading what they did to acquire him was if they were almost certain he was the last piece they needed to win a superbowl.

Hugh traded the Raiders future away based on what he had seen Palmer do 4 or 5 years ago because I think he is disparate to be the guy that saved Oakland. It’s my belief though that he will go down as the guy that doomed them for another decade.

  13. I’m sure glad Hue Jackson chose to ignore the 2009 and 2010 tape on Carson Palmer before he made the trade. Hue got to see the real Carson Palmer (post elbow injury) live and in person today….not as much “zip” on those passes as there was in 2005 is there Hue?

  14. Hue has insisted on 2 QB’s; Boller and Palmer.

Both look like a turd in a punch bowl after a corn-on-the-cob festival.

How in the heck can and could have Hue wanted this lame Boller as a backup? He plain sucks.

Then he wants Palmer, and we’re to believe in him?

Hue should’ve stayed with Boller the whole game, and mixed in Pryor.

The game was lost way early, and there was no need to caste Palmer negative with a premature start with 3 picks.

I am not convinced getting Palmer was a smart move. Neither is Hue. Just ask him how he also thought Boller was a smart move, after all, he brought his lame a$z in as a back up, and let Edwards walk, then insisted on Palmer as the “greatest NFL trade ever”?????

    Please.

Hue looks out of control with too much power, and looked like a lamb on the sidelines with no answer.

Perhaps he should rename himself “Mae B. Imatard?”

I’m having serious doubts we beat the Mules in 2 Sundays. Not to mention win the AFC West as Hue has promised.

  15. Wow … it’s one of those games where everything goes wrong … it’s not the end of the season. Raiders will still win the division unless McFadden is out for the season.

  16. The Raiders need to get healthy, no starting QB in Campbell, no starting FB in Reese, no starting and NFL leading RB in McFadden, no starting corner, no starting DE, no starting Kicker and on and on I could go.

No excuses in the NFL but they need to get healthy with the by week and put the Oakland Team back on the field for the second half of the season. All the real Raiders out there today and KC gets thumped.

  17. You’re not going to win throwing six interceptions, and you can’t really expect much from a guy who was expected to be a back-up, and another guy who’s had about two football practices this calendar year, and doesn’t know the guys he’s playing with. Give it some time.

However, the Raiders took a big step back when Campbell got hurt, and another big step back when McFadden got hurt. And all the so-called experts who had Haley fired and the Chiefs playing for Andrew Luck after two weeks are looking pretty foolish right now.

  18. Don’t worry, Raider fans. Carson will get better. He’ll have at least 4 turnovers next game.

  19. Is anyone surprised? I mean really, anyone who thought any different, well, circuits not functioning in your cranium then. It will get better, but after 4 freaking days, totally expected.

  20. Still showed signs of poor decision making….. Honestly he looked the same as he did when he was wearing black and orange.

As a Bengal’s fan, I think it was the ‘greatest trade ever’ also………….

    Thanks Hue.

  21. 28-0 at home? Come on man!

Yes – the Bolts blew it in NJ.

Yes – the Raiders are dealing with some injuries?

But 28-0 in front of the home crowd? Come on man!

  22. The only reason Palmer even played today is because Kyle Boller couldn’t look the part of backup NFL QB today, he couldn’t even the look the part of a 3rd string QB. Boller shouldn’t have a contract come Monday.

The only good thing with Palmer is he was able to shake some important rust off in the 2nd half. Hue had no choice but to put Palmer in, or watch the final score end up in the 50’s because Boller would’ve thrown 2-3 more picks.

  23. Playing Kyle Boller was the right thing to do, but he blew it. At least the coaching staff gave him a shot. As for Palmer I’ll wait until the Chargers vs. Raiders game to judge him. He get’s of for now, but he better be worth the trades that we gave Cinci. Come on Raiders!!!

  24. As a Bengals fan and Carson Palmer folower for his entire career all I can to do is laugh. Thanks Oakland for the 1st and the 2nd picks for the same old pick 6 Palmer. I know a lot of you Oakland fans are gonna say, “He didn’t know the playbook yet, he only had 3 practises…” Only 2 of the 3 picks were his fault, but everyone knows that you throw ball out of bounds before you throw a pick, and in Carson’s case a pick 6.
So on behalf of all of us Cincy fans, thank you for giving up so much for an overratted, washed-up, injured QB.
    hahaha, PICK 6 Palmer

“Carson had some zing on the ball,”

what? were you watching the same game? his arm strength is definitely not as strong as Campbells and it hardly looked adequate. he fluttered many passes.

“Palmer, even with the 3 picks, looked like what we need. The WR’s just need to get used to catching pro style passes. ”

he looked like what you need? he didnt do anything impressive today. he looked like a step back from Campbell. and the WRs are used to catching pro style passes. you sure are one big optimist.

  26. Man, this bye week is coming at a perfect time. Relax Oakland fans, its ONE game, Carson had a limited playbook, doesn’t know receivers or playbook yet, relax. LOL Plus they can heal up a little

  27. Missing from Raiders lineup today:

    1st string QB
    1st string RB
    1st string FB

    1st string MLB
    2nd string CB
    3rd string CB
    2nd string FS
    1st string DE

    1st string K

Chiefs did what they were supposed to do. Win a game against an unbelievably beat up team. I’m not impressed in the least. Oakland at full strength against KC full strength would be a different story. We showed what the outcome of that would be on January 2nd, 2011.

Haters gon’ hate. That’s a given.

  28. Raider fan here. Nice game by the Chiefs.
I haven’t seen QB play that bad since the days of JaCarcass or maybe the second Art Shell era.
If McFadden is out any length of time, I’m seeing all the signs of a 7-9 season for my boys.
    It’s a shame…

  29. So Boller throws 3 picks. They pull him at half time for Palmer, to show Boller how it’s done. And proceeds to throw 3 picks ?
Put a fork in da raydas. They are done.
Brown is the smartest GM in the league sitting on 4 -, 1st round picks over the next two years.
Watch out for dem bungles in the next 2-3 years.

  30. Hahahaha is all I have to say. Good riddance Palmer!!! What a baby and today’s performance is what Oakland needs to get used to. We love our new quarterback and we don’t miss Palmer’s interceptions at all. We are happy to pass them off to another team. Great move Mike Brown.

  31. It was “Bollercide” ..nothin more than that. Kyle Boller killed the Raiders in Jacksonville game last year, only played one series and it cost us tue game.

Boller killed the Raiders all thru the preseason, and he did it today….Hue Jackson and the Raiders committed “Bollercide”.

It’s Hue’s fault, for getting rid of Gradkowski and Trent Edwards. He was a willing victim of “Bollercide”.

  32. Jackson wasn’t filling out the roster when the season started, but he was responsible for what happened today. He put too much emphasis on one game, and expected way too much from Palmer.

  33. axespray says:

Somewhere, Mike Brown is taking a bath in 1st round picks

That would be a tad premature. The second pick was conditional on the Raiders making the AFC championship game.

  34. Get real people. Palmer practiced for 3 freaking days after not playing football for 9 months. He wasn’t supposed to play but had to because Boller was so bad. Boller is the reason they traded for Palmer. Anybody want to dispute the fact they needed to get another QB now?

Palmer threw some picks but for coming in off the street and not knowing the offense or players he was throwing to, handled himself pretty well. He now has two weeks with the bye week to get into shape, learn the offense and develop timing with his receivers. If some of you honestly think this is what you’ll see as the season goes along, you are in for a big surprise. Raiders are still the team to beat in the division when healthy which they aren’t right now.

  35. Love all the whining from Raider fans about not being a full strength. I guess the fact that the Chiefs are without three studs in Eric Berry, Jamal Charles and Tony Moeaki (among others) is completely irrelevant.

And what’s with the moaning about “running up the score?” All I saw was the Chiefs kneeling down at the 10 yard line several times to end the game.

  36. Do u think hue mentioned palmers 33 picks he had the last 2 years? Would Mike Browns demands drop off? Perhaps but I’m thinking Hue did not..

What u see is what u get. Palmer on pace to match last years 20 picks.

  37. My question is………..where is Joetoronto? He is a huge Raiders fan. Funny, he likes to go on other fans sites and run his mouth. Where are you Joe? Last week you were comparing Palmer to Jim Plunkett LOL.

  38. “Love all the whining from Raider fans about not being a full strength. I guess the fact that the Chiefs are without three studs in Eric Berry, Jamal Charles and Tony Moeaki (among others) is completely irrelevant. ”

Yeah that “stud” Moeaki who hasn’t played a meaningful snap in the NFL. That guy?

But 28-0 in front of the home crowd? Come on man!

What was up with that loss, humb0lt? I expected San Diego to win a close one. That’s a veteran team with an alleged franchise QB, and they finished like they were down 6 in the first half. Raider fan can’t cry about injuries because Jackson loves to say “next man up”, but come on, man. Chargers had a chance to take an early division lead, but now they have to worry about KC and Oakland sneaking up on them. Come on, man.

  40. ‘Yeah that “stud” Moeaki who hasn’t played a meaningful snap in the NFL. That guy?”

No, I’m talking about the other Tony Moeaki. The one that had 47 catches for 556 yards as a rookie last year.

  41. Nice. Just makes a nice Sunday even brighter to see the Raiders get B-slapped so convincingly. At home.

I’ve been hearing a sound all afternoon, and just realized the source. It’s Mike Brown laughing at the insanity of his best move ever. Kudos Oakland. Davis couldn’t have done it any better.

  42. The Bengals didn’t really expect that 2nd in 2013 to become a 1st, but it is nice that the 1st round pick in 2012 is starting to move up towards the top of the draft rather than at the bottom, if the Raiders made the playoffs.

First, the hit on Palmer’s legs on the first series guaranteed he would be thinking about his knee the rest of the game and prevents him from planting on it solidly and following through. He needs a shrink on that. He will never be anything until he gets over his fear of being hurt. Hypnotism?

  43. I got so excited to see the Palmer of old and sorry to say for Raider fans the new one is just the same. I actually stopped and re-wound the game so I could tape all his picks today. I especially like the Pick 6. Now I can replay this over and over and laugh instead of throwing things at the TV when he as our beloved QB here in Cincy. Good ridance and enjoy the Bay Area.

A long suffering former Palmer fan.

  44. What did you expect? We kind of lost the nerve center of our offense last week. the defense gave up 14 points, and got tired of being on the field by the end of the game and started getting stupid penalties.

What I learned today is Palmer is a better quarterbacks in Campbell. He just needs some time to shake the rest. For those of you that want to quote stats, watch the game. We are going to be fine. The DMC injury is the worst thing about the game however.

The other thing I learned today is that there are a lot of concerned haters out there. Way to wet your pants in the comments here boys.

  45. It’s hilarious listening to all the fader injury excuses.

The Chiefs are missing only the best RB in the NFL, one of the best safeties in the game, and a future Tony Gonzalez replacement.

On top of that, we have to use the most inconsistent QB in football, and we still housed you in your dump.

At least you got to see a real defense today. The faders are marshmallow soft, and their coach is a moron.

Par for the course in Chokeland.

  46. Who TOLD you Palmer was such a choker? Please, just go back and look at my posts — enough said.

OK enough NOT said — I can’t get enough of it! CARSON PALMER IS THE NUMBER ONE CHOKER OF ALL TIME!!!!

    ALL TIME!!!!!

  47. It’s week seven, every team is banged up.

    No excuses Raider fan.

The Packers were the most injured team in the NFL last year on route to a championship.

  48. I hope the chiefs keep believing that it’s them as a team getting all this wins. Atleast for one more week. I want them to play inspired football on MNF and destroy SD. Then they can come back to reality and finish 4-12.. Ok. More like 6-10. We lost some key playmakers(including sebas) so we went down to KC level of play. Just keep it going KC. One more week. LMAO

  49. Last year, Palmer had 20 INTs. I watched a few Bengals games last year and he would throw these ultra high deep balls to nowhere and defenders would just stand unnder the ball and catch them like punts. The guy I say wasn’t even a sure starter in the league anymore and would have maybe been worth a 3rd round pick and possibly a second. What Oakland paid is a complete travesty. Palmer is not as bad as he was today but he’s pretty bad.

  50. Did you watch the post game analysts comments. Regarding the Pick 6 he threw according to the experts there’s no way he should even make that throw. That’s not being rusty, that’s just plain not knowing the coverages. Any 8 year veteran should know that regardless of the reps he got or didn’t get in practice.

BTW I saw the same ole Carson retreating to a corner of the bench by himself when things got a little tough. Great team player. NOT!!!!!

  51. Theres one thing about fade fans ya gotta give em credit for.

They’re consistently delusional. Pretty much like dead Al.

  52. Raiders fault for keeping Boller over Gradkowski. Bruce Almighty wins that game going away.

I know Palmer becomes an easy target after this one but let’s be serious. The guy had 4 days to get ready for this game. Said he knew 10% of the playbook. Reportedly only got 10% of the snaps in practice this week. And unexpectedly entered the game, down 21-0. Can’t judge anything by this game alone.

  53. I’m calling it the Chiefs are going to beat the Chargers.

San Diego will always be the NFL’s annual disappointment and Rivers looks like he’s lost it.

  54. I guarantee you HueJack does not forget that bush league move by Haley to call a play action pass on that last drive.

I expect we’ll be calling onside kicks when we’re blowing them out in KC later this year.

You can give Palmer three YEARS to prepare, and he’ll still be what he is — a choker who gags then sucks then chokes some more. I’ve watched this overhyped gagger for YEARS, chief – trust me, he’s never going to be anything more than what you saw today.

But good luck watching each week and hoping otherwise…

Is that the same “real defense” that gave up 40+ to both Buffalo and Detroit?

Give me a break. Not impressed.

Because you too advantage of Kyle Boller being Kyle Boller and Carson Palmer basically walking into an NFL game off the street. Give me a break.

Raiders ran for nearly 6 yards per carry and, despite the score, actually outgained the lowly Chefs today. This outcome was due to Kyle Boller making his typical mistakes and Palmer stepping in cold into a desperate situation and trying to force the issue.

  57. The Chiefs were handed a football game today, no other way to say it. They did little offensively and were gift wrapped two TD’s on the pick 6’s, and another two TO’s by the Raiders inside the KC 10 yard line. A win is a win, but if the haters honestly believe this is the same team that won 4 games already this season, and the one they’ll see later, you’re in for a rude awakening.

  58. You can give Palmer three YEARS to prepare, and he’ll still be what he is — a choker who gags then sucks then chokes some more. I’ve watched this overhyped gagger for YEARS, chief – trust me, he’s never going to be anything more than what you saw today.

    ———————————————————

And this is spoken like a fan of one of the worst franchises in sports who’s panties are in a bunch because Palmer had had enough of playing for that pathetic team.

I’ve watched him play too Chief and he is a top ten QB when healthy. He wasn’t the past couple of years yet still played and threw over 25 TD’s and 3000-4000 yards. Don’t let the truth cloud a good hate on for a player that spurned your team right bud?

  59. vikingsrdue says: Oct 23, 2011 7:36 PM

Great news for my Vikes! Now the Hershel Walker trade won’t be the worst trade of all time!

Yes it will. Dallas won a couple of Super Bowls off that trade. The Vikes? Not so much.

  60. “I guarantee you HueJack does not forget that bush league move by Haley to call a play action pass on that last drive.

“I expect we’ll be calling onside kicks when we’re blowing them out in KC later this year.”

    —–

Yes, that ONE PASS was much more bush league than all the unsportsmanlike penalties committed by the Raiders on that last drive alone.

The Raiders are who we thought they were. It’s like Marty always said — give them enough time and they will self-destruct.

  61. It goes without saying that this game was pivotal in the afc west. Palmer wasn’t the problem today, Jackson was. To let Boller sink the team after the his pick for six on the first possession is borderline incompetent. Palmer was forced to play catchup which typically leads to turnovers. I have no doubt the raiders will be far superior after their bye but the damage is already done. This week changed everything in the afc. Too many teams will be in close contention for a wild card because of the confidence/momentum they got today. Thanks Hue for letting KC win. This will come back to haunt. You contradicted yourself by sitting on your hands until it was too late in the game while saying throughout the season that “the time is now”. If you really believed that, Palmer would’ve started.
As for everyone crying about what a horrible deal the Palmer trade was….are you serious. You are either ignorant of draft history or forgetful of the past. Numerous 1st round picks have fallen flat on their faces. Being a great college player means little when converting to pro.

  62. The Raider fans are full of Crap. The Chiefs did not run up the score, they could have scored at the end but went into the VICTORY formation.

  64. Are the Raider fans that are complaining about injuries mad because they think their kicker would have made it closer?

  65. Point one: last week everyone was rooting for us and we were the the underdog favorite who warmed everyone’s heart, now all the sudden the raider bashing resumes…. We played a bad game, got knocked of our high horse and landed smack on our asses… We’re better then we were but we still got a long waaaay to go..

Point Two: Hue needs to either cool it wit the trickery or surrender the play calling to Saunders, let’s get good at the basics before trying this extra stuff..

Today I saw Kyle boller, Terrell Pryor and Carson Palmer combine to form Jamarcus Russell

  66. Chiefs fans…any team could have beat the Raiders today. Had we had a Jason Campbell, you could take 14 points off the board that came by way of Pick 6’s..and put 21-24 points on the board for us.

This was just a classic case of “Bollercide.” It’s amazing that my team went into the season with Kyle Boller as the #2 QB..Unbelievable.

  67. Chiefs lost Moeaki in last preseason game, Eric Berry in week one & Jamaal Charles in week 2. They stunk up the place in week 1 & 2.

Raiders lose some starters this week & we get an avalanche of excuses. If getting skunked by a mediocre Chiefs team in your house is excusable, just keep thinking your team is playoff bound. You guys are completely clueless. This division is wide open. Nobody in the West is feared by the REAL PLAYOFF CONTENDERS.

  68. The only thing his game proves is why the Raiders were forced to trade for Carson Palmer in the first place, simply put Kyle Boller has no chance to get it done and this season would’ve gone completely down the drain for the Raiders with him running the offense. On the other hand, despite the poor performance, it proves nothing as to whether Palmer will be successful or not this season. That remains to be seen. There’s no reason to jump to negative conclusions at the moment.

  69. JUST LOVE hearing the Raider fans blaming this blowout home loss on injuries!

You just got blowed-the-hell out by a team that has lost one of the best young safeties in the game, one of the best young RBs in the game, and one of the best young TEs in the game for the season due to ACL injuries.

  70. It makes you wonder how many people here throw comments out while watching nothing but some highlights/lowlights.

It’s that or the majority of the posters here have zero clue what they are watching.

Down 21-0 second drive of the second half, did anyone expect some storybook ending here? At least he got some real game time in before the break. I’ll pass judgement in 3-4 more games, not when he was with the team less then a week and tossed into a already lost football game.

The WR’s looked pathetic, they dropped a lot of Palmers passes. One INT was a dropped pass. He ripped the ball in between 2 and 3 defenders a few times and made some real ugly passes also and threw 2 bad picks.

DHB is going to be a beast with Palmer at QB. Thumb it down because we all know who did and didn’t really watch the game.

  71. Palmer-Bush is not a good a backfield combo, but I saw one Raiders cheerleader that had me yearning to Palmer-Bush.

  72. That’s why it was hilarious when PFT had us ranked 9th or 6th. Without Jason Campbell this team is ranked 32…until Palmer proves himself.

That was a sorry team the blew us out today.

  73. Sure is funny all the raiders fans now saying we crushed them cause all the injuries. When before the game they were all saying how it didn’t matter who was a QB cause we are so bad. They were gonna “roll the Chiefs”. Ha ha Now it’s “we lost cause we have a bunch of injuries whaaa whaaa. We lost the best running back in the league the second game and still are the 6th best in rushing. No excuses you lost get over it. The Chiefs are far from competing for a title (I am not delusional) but it sure was sweet to put it to the Raiders in their house

  74. Give them enough time and they’ll self destruct? Kyle Boller at one point completed two of his first 3 passes of which the first two were INT’s which led to 14 points. Of KC’s 28 points, 21 came off of turnovers. KC had 6 INT’s, I repeat 6 and only scored 21 points off those? The Raiders defense did everything they could to ensure the score wasn’t worse despite the constant turnover problem.

KC didn’t spank the Raiders in a typical way a team gets spanked. The score was 14-0 at halftime and the Raiders came out with Boller who promptly led the team down the field only to throw his third and last INT which then turned into another 7 points and a 21-0 lead. Then Palmer came in, something no QB comes into expecting to win especially one with 5 days of learning as much as possible about the offense. Palmer came in to shake some rust off and re-acquaint himself with the the speed of the game so he’s ready after the bye week.

You can look at his 3 INT’s and laugh all you want and you can look at the Chiefs and believe all you want that “the better team won” but in reality, the Raiders are better then the Chiefs, especially once everyone comes back healthy. The Chiefs could be healthy and with Charles, Moeaki , and Berry and they still aren’t the better team. Any team facing Kyle Boller should win. Fault the Raiders for putting themselves in this position, but hopefully Hue gets this changed ASAP.

I look forward to game two of the these teams. Oakland with a QB who know his system and who has timing with his WR’s (something which was obviously lacking on several of his throws) the Raiders will be back to being an offensive juggernaut.

  75. Of course he didn’t look good. He hasn’t played since last year, has had part of 1 week of practice and he doesn’t know the playbook.

Anyone that didn’t see this coming is a moron and to barely even mention that in you article is poor journalism. That should be the main point, not some side point.

And I couldn’t care less about the Raiders.

  76. ‘The Chiefs could be healthy and with Charles, Moeaki , and Berry and they still aren’t the better team.”

Notwithstanding the fact that the Chiefs went to the playoffs last year and the Raider didn’t? Or the fact that the Chiefs have won 8 of the last 9 in Oakland?

  77. KC didn’t spank the Raiders in a typical way a team gets spanked. I guess you didn’t really watch the game huh? All three of Bollers picks where in the first half. They had a three and out coming out of half time and was pulled. and really who cares if it wasn’t a typical spanking. It was a spanking none the less. Man excuses excuses

  78. Hue, I think it’s safe to say you still have your 2013 1st rounder, now go trade it for Tim Teblow! The faiders are clearly a team that’s ready to win now… Their defense was so impressive against an average QB and a 4th string RB.

And for the MANLY version of bully football, those 3 runs inside the 3 yardline were inpressive!

    Scoreboard!

Hue had no choice but to put Palmer in, or watch the final score end up in the 50′s because Boller would’ve thrown 2-3 more picks.

    ====================

this makes absolutely no sense haha. Palmer threw those 3 more picks u speak of, and it wasn’t in the 50’s. And Boller had a higher QB rating, but that’s like saying Rosie O’Donnell is better looking than Roseanne Barr.

  80. UCLA man here….loved watching the Trojan Horse break his leg. Best observation yet? The guy who said Palmer’s velocity is down post surgery. A rusty quarterback, who does not even know the names of his team mates, who is required to digest the playbook in three days before a rivalry game…..and now has an average arm, at best. I wish nothing but bad luck on Palmer for his selfish treatment of his Browns team mates….and for going to USC.

  81. The Broncos future looks brighter and brighter . Who would have thought just 2 weeks ago the raiders could literally throw away a young team on the verge.

  82. If the Chiefs are as good as they are as their fans think they, they should have rolled Oakland by more than 28 points. These same Chiefs fans conveniently forget out of 11 offensive drives they only had 2 TD’s the rest of the drives either ended up in turnovers or punts (7 punts, 2 INT’s). Just 2 TD’s. Not even field goals. That’s a hell of a defensive performance by the Raiders.

The butt whooping should have been far worse, but for the Raiders defense doing everything they could they only limited the Chiefs offense to 14 points which isn’t a butt whooping when you have two gift wrapped Neil O’Donnell style pick-sixes.

People can hate Palmer all they want, but he went into a game down 21-0 and wasn’t expected to win the game for them.

At least when Palmer was is in during the second half he looked more like an NFL QB then Boller did at any point during this game or his career. There were several near misses where Palmer could have made some big throws but missed due to poor timing and having limited knowledge of the offense.

Yes I admit the Chiefs beat the Raiders, but don’t make this out to be the biggest butt whooping in years because you conveniently forget last year’s last game of the year prior to resting ANY of the Chiefs starters when BOTH teams were healthy and the Raiders were shellacking the Chiefs.

  83. ? Browns teammates? Anyway, I didn’t think he looked rusty at all. He looked like the same old CP Bengal fans used to love and grew to dislike. Trust us, we don’t have our panties in a wad over this trade. It’s a win win. Long live the Red Rifle!

  84. Palmer played for the browns??? Wait until they find out the bengal’s traded one of their players for two possible first round draft picks. They’re gonna be pissed in Cleveland.

  85. Embarrassing game by the entire Raider team.

The bye week is coming at the right time. Hue has to make the proper adjustments and the team needs to get healthy. Palmer will learn the playbook and get his timing down with the offense. I’m a big Hue Jackson fan but he needs to stop getting cute and just run the football with McFadden and Bush! Trick plays once in a while and good but too much is too much!

Maybe I’m an optimist but I think the Raiders can go 6-3 over their final nine games and finish 10-6 which could win the AFC West or give the team a very good shot at a wildcard.

    Denver (2-4)
    @ San Diego (4-2)
    @ Minnesota (1-6)
    Chicago (4-3)
    @ Miami (0-6)
    @ Green Bay (7-0)
    Detroit (5-2)
    @ Kansas City (3-3)
    San Diego (4-2)

  86. What a train wreck, Cincy’s laughing their butts off right now. Kyle threw three INTs and Carson said, I can top that, and threw three himself. A first round pick and a second round in 2013, the Raiders are thee worst team in the league by being stupid.

Why is Kyle Boller still in the NFL?

Only people surprised are Raider fans. Knee Jerk reaction by a coach, because he knew he had nothing in Boller. Hue just needs to remember this is 2011, not 2005. Carson will be better then Boller in the long run. Just not by much, and definitely not worth a 1st and 2nd. And by then he will be to old.

  88. Notwithstanding the fact that the Chiefs went to the playoffs last year and the Raider didn’t? Or the fact that the Chiefs have won 8 of the last 9 in Oakland?

    ———————————————-

Raiders are working on a little string of 4 straight in Arrowhead themselves….

  89. This game seems to prove that not much, except maybe Aaron Rodgers, in the NFL is for certain. After Week 2, Chief’s fans were pretty much nauseated about even watching any more games but now we can anticipate a decent season.

The Raiders will get Sebastian Janikowski back but we won’t see Jamaal Charles until next year. Too bad about Jason Campbell but Eric Berry is just as important to our defense. Oakland’s injuries took place six games into the season while ours were much earlier, so pointing in that direction deserves little more than a BFD response.

Right now Hue Jackson probably feels like the editor of the Chicago newspaper that proclaimed Tom Dewey president in 1948, and he should. He pushed for Carson Palmer and paid too much for him. Desperate move? Yeah. Right now it looks like the Raiders should sign Jason Campbell for th next two or three years rather than let him slip away after season’s end.

There was no attempt to run up the score. So what if Todd Haley called a play action pass in the last drive? The game ended with two consecutive kneel downs in Oakland’s end zone. But if you want to call Haley a jerk for a frowning, I’ll-shake-your-hand-but-I-won’t-break-stride-to-do-it behavior as he walked off the field, go ahead–it was classic Haley bad manners but maybe he thought he had a reason.

  90. At KC fans okay the Chiefs handed it to my Raiders. But what if Campbell was healthy and Cassel was out. What would the outcome be? The Raiders swept you last year and I’m certain they will beat you up in KC later this season. Even if Palmer don’t get it done Jason Campbell is still on this team and might be ready to go in 5 more weeks.

KC didn’t win it, we lost it, gift wrapped it and handed it to them.

  92. Calm down Nation.

Hue has this ship going in the right direction and Carson WILL take us to the promised land — probably still 1 year away though. After the Apocalypse we’ll be the only team left standing.

Carson, quit your yapping about having the strongest arm in the NFL. Try playing at full speed instead of that crap on display. We’ve still got Boller. He can throw it through the goalpost while on his knees from the 50. Somewhere Brian Billick is rolling in his grave.

I say we go Wildcat with Prior the rest of the season. Carson could be a blessing in disguise if it forces us to get to go Prior.

  93. The Raiders are playing like the Chiefs during week 1 and 2 which doesn’t bowed well for the over confident Hue Jackson coaching approach. Now this loose cannon has full control of the entire program. The Raiders are going right back to the cellar after one brief season of hope in over a decade.

  94. Look, look, I told you Palmer was garbage!! Look he doesn’t even know his receivers names yet but I told you he’d throw a pick six!

He couldn’t even audible out of a play because that wasn’t in yet but I told you he has no arm!!!!

His receivers dropped 4 passes in one quarter that would have kept drives going, and they even let one get away that turned into an interception but I told you all that, he’s over the hill and not accurate enough to play in the NFL!!!!

Can’t wait for the rest of the week at this rate. Every ones an expert but gave the guy 3 days to get ready. if he didn’t go 18-25 for 325 yards and 3 touchdowns in a half everyone was going to say how much of a failure he is. If he throws 3 picks in the Denver game, then pile on. Now you all just sound stupid.

  95. Everyone is so quick to jump on Palmer and Jackson… But give it time…

The biggest problem yesterday was, WHY DIDNT THEY RUN THE DAMN BALL??????????

Why throw it so much when your run game is your bread & butter, Boller sucks & Palmer had a couple of days practice?

    Unbelievable….

  96. Did you see the scoreboard? And it wasn’t like Bush was killing it, he had a few big runs to get that average up but the rest of the time he looked very slow and was getting 3 yards at best, down 3 scores they can’t be going on 8 minute drives that will most likely stall and end up in the hands of a free agent kicker to try and get 3.

They didn’t run it because they couldn’t mix some Bush with McFaddens speed and kill them.

Jones tried and looked good on his first carry, then made a huge mistake and gave up yards making it 2nd and 13 or so and they gave up on him on the ground. He’s not ready either, he’s not smart enough to produce or better yet produce a play that gains nothing. He’d rather cut it back, spin and lose 3 yards. He’s scary when he touches the ball on kick returns, it’s like watching Carr returning punts years back, sometimes you take what you get and be happy with it. not lose the game.

  97. Carson’s arm strength problem is many-fold.

First, he is not stepping into the throw because he is worried about getting hurt. As a result, you will see a lot of passes float high because he launches them off his back foot.

Second, his elbow ligament is not whole. He was advised by many doctors to get the Tommy John surgery and he kept getting other opinions until he got the one he wanted: that rest would heal it. It did… but to a point.

The ligament is loose and will stretch the more he throws. This means that his accuracy and arm strength will decline the more he passes. Cincy got by with the running game the last two years to minimize the wear and tear on Carson’s arm.

The result of this is that due to his superhuman arm strength he had before the injury, he never really learned how to quarterback. He relied on his unusually high velocity to throw a ball into tight coverage and he usually got a completion. He frequently made fundamental QB errors, but his arm overcame them. An example is that many interceptions bounced off the hands/arms of he defenders because the ball was thrown so hard. This is not the case today. He now throws a very defender-catchable ball.

Carson has not learned the lesson that the slower you thow, the narrower the window for a completion. With less velocity, many of the windows are closed and turn into Pick 6s. Until he learns his limitations and adjusts his game to his permanant lesser arm strength, he will never be a great quarterback again.

  98. Palmer is an elite QB. However, he was never injured this off season and kept throwing the football and working out. A lot of it has to do with chemistry with your receivers. He will play better in the coming weeks, I promise. He was in Oakland for less than a week and then stepped in against an NFL defense. Tough.
