Falcons say Ndamukong Suh taunted an injured Matt Ryan

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan went down on the Ford Field turf on Sunday after suffering what at first looked like a serious leg injury. Ryan turned out to be fine, and he led the Falcons to a victory over the Lions. But some of Ryan’s teammates were furious at the way the Lions reacted to Ryan’s injury.

Specifically, multiple Falcons players said Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was yukking it up while Ryan was lying on the ground, writhing in pain.

“I had respect for Suh before the game,” Falcons center Todd McClure told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “But when Matt was on the ground, the things he was saying and the trash he was talking was definitely uncalled for. There are certain things you don’t do. [He said], ‘Get the cart’ and several other things that I can’t repeat.”

Falcons receiver Roddy White said Suh was one of a couple of classless Lions.

“I lost a whole lot of respect for 90 [Suh] today, and also 92 [Cliff Avril], the [bleep] they were doing when Matt got hurt. That was unacceptable,” White said. “Like 92 was kicking [Ryan’s] feet, saying, ‘Get him off the field.’ We don’t do stuff like that. We don’t rally over guys when they get hurt. It was just inappropriate behavior. I mean, ‘Get the cart’? Are you serious? Come on. When you compete, you never want to see a guy get hurt.”

Suh was called for a personal foul for facemasking Ryan during the game, and he easily could have been called for another personal foul for a post-play shove. He’s certainly not doing anything to change the perception that he’s a dirty player.

  1. The NFL better start cracking down on this fool before some 330 pound offensive lineman decides to do it for them.

  2. Suh does not seem to be looking for new friends mr. White. This guy wants teams to know he’s out to put any opposing QB out!! Plain and simple. Mean and punishing and out to hurt!

  3. Wow. A lot of people were really happy to see the Lions doing good after they had stunk for so long. At this point, people are starting to get a bit sick of them and hoping they start losing again.

Someone might want to tell the Lions about winning and losing with dignity. Seems to have been forgotten.

  4. The Lions have had a great start but can see there just not ready to hang with the big boys just yet… The Falcons and 49ers have made my wallet a lot fatter the past 2 weeks.

  5. For one who thought all this talk about SUH being a dirty player was overblown, I now think differently after reading about his behavior above.

Sad that this talented soft spoken man is beggining to sound like a Jet’s player!

  6. I’ve always defended ndamukong about being called dirty, always said he’s just tough and physical. Might be rethinking that

  7. Suh is an dirty player period. Hit him in the wallet a few more times and he will knock that crap off.

  8. Off the field Suh seems like a great guy, on the field he seems to be a big jerk-off. I don’t care wether a player is “classy” or not, but knocking on a guy thats on the ground in pain, thats just pathetic

  9. I love what Suh brings to the league. butif you are the biggest baddest physical specimen in the league, capable of making every play on the field, the last thing you need to do is open your mouth, taunt, etc. If dominating every snap of the ball isnt enough to fill your cup and you think you need to taunt ppl/make late hits. That shows poor character. plain and simple

  10. Someone will rip Suh’s legs out sooner or later.
He might be a monster, but even monsters have knees.

I’m not suggesting it, but the guy is building a case.

  11. When will people realize this idiot just tries to have a nice image off the field, with his well-spoken interviews and ‘positive’ mindset and all that bullcrap but in reality is just a scumbag on the field.

  12. You guys are such angels. You guys wouldn’t, at least, think about saying those things to an opposing player when he’s on TV in your home? I’m shocked.

    It’s football, not ballet.

  13. Not surprising after hearing how poor a sportsman their coach has been throughout this season.
It starts from the top and everyone knows how poop flows…

  14. Detroit’s poise is starting to slip away. 2 losses in a row. The come back wins were exciting but also lucky. They better watch or they could still end up 9-7 and miss their chance at the playoffs.

  15. God I hope you idiots dont beilieve everything you read. The Lions were the ones who were waving the training staff on to the field. I was there. This is locker room garbage and proof that you people believe everything that you read.

  16. Come on Lion Fans ….. What are your excuses this time around? …… Looks like only C. Johnson is what he appears to be ….. The rest (Suh, Stafford) are just mak’in believe …..

  17. and seriously taunting is part of football. they aren’t ice skating out there. i don’t care if he’s hurt. they made a good play they have the right to talk trash. if you’re gonne be that sensitive call Dr. Phil.

  18. In fairness to Suh, he doesn’t know how to act when a quarterback gets hurt

Please, this guy has been playing football his whole life.
It doesn’t take an NFL mandated brochure to instruct a player on proper sportsmanship and the general “don’t make yourself look like a Jackass rule”.

  19. Lions need to shut up. Talked a whole bunch of trash going into last weeks game vs SF, and there defensive line got DOMINATED. Now you lose your 2nd straight game in your OWN house. STOP YACKIN AND PLAY FOOTBALL.

I’m not buying in on Detroit. They’re overrated and a one dimensional football team. IMO the Bears are still the 2nd best team in that division.

  20. Can’t wait for the karma train to pay Mr. Suh a visit. Also, not really surprising the Lions act this way with a whiny, overly sensitive coach like Schwartz. Looks like the Lions might be losing their mojo.

  21. im so happy my 9ers were the team to smack around the Lions and give the blueprint on how to beat them. Atlanta obviously watched the 9er-lions tape.

Hell yeah. If his knee is blown and his career is over it’s high fives all round!

Serious spinal injury? Whoa! Chest bumps everyone! WOOHOO!!!

  23. If true (and no reason to believe it isn’t) how utterly classless especially when so many, including non-Lion fans, have been rooting the Lions along.

  24. This is all garbage.

Ryan missed 2 plays, he wasnt hurt.

Suh got one personal foul call on a face mask.

You people keep believe the crap on this site without watching the games. Its comical.

  25. @shadymduk

I’m sorry this is a man’s sport. those whom are sensitive and have feelings beware! I blew out my knee and tore my ACL, which ended my football career, in high school and the guys who did it were sittin there talkin trash. I didn’t cry about it. I got off the field. I didn’t get upset about some guys talking, I was just worried about my freakin leg. If words hurt your feelings you are a child. Grow up and be a man if you wanna play this game.

  26. @shadymduk

and when i played and we hurt the other team we did celebrate. Once again this is a MAN’S sport. We didn’t care. We didn’t know them and we didn’t want to know them. We wanted to beat the heck out of them until they gave up. go cry to your mama cuz I don’t wanna hear it. What are you crying about? “Man it was terrible, they were playing the game and when they did good and they accidentally hurt someone and they started talking trash. It was horrific.” Have some real problems. these guys are children. GROW UP!

  27. Wait, the media ‘darling’ whom everyone anointed as the next great player who played hard but legal, the one who does oh so much good is his off time, is really a turd on the field? Please, not the first time, so get it straight media, do you want to honor him, or admonish him? But we all know you’ll have it both ways as long as you get media lines and talk about it, you’ll always say its not for you to say but to report on. BS.

  28. and don’t you all dare try to say when you’re watching a game at home and someone gets hurt on the other team yall don’t say stuff like “Get off the field!” or “Will someone get him outta there so the game can start again.” Don’t you all act so high and mighty. hypocritical pansies.

  29. “I’m sorry this is a man’s sport. those whom are sensitive and have feelings beware! -No I’m SORRY there are people that think like you in the world. This is a man’s game but a real man doesn’t taunt someone who’s hurt, that’s for immature, spoiled little children.

  30. Suh is dirty dirty dirty dirty.

I watched that facemask it was clearly intentional and this man is trying to injure players.

I’m so happy the Lions lost. And it’s only because of the NFL’s dirtiest player.

He should be suspended for a game to send a message.

  31. Everyone outside of Detroit loves to talk smack about Suh but, EVERY fan would LOVE to have him on their team.

I’d love to know how many of these people posting have actually played football beyond Pop-Warner.
Trash talk is part of the game. If you can’t handle it…go play soccer Nancy!

  32. I also saw Suh do a vicious face-mask grab on Matt Ryan, at least once that wasn’t called for some reason.

  33. Hey Suh and the rest of the clowns in Detroit.

Congratulations on loss #2, which if you really want to get technical is the start of another “losing streak”. Though you don’t wreak of those dreadful Lions teams of years past, you still have yet to even sniff a playoff birth.

It would probably be best to keep your mouths shut until you become relevent enough to even talk on the field to other teams. I just don’t understand these young teams that win a few games and think they are all of a sudden Super Bowl bound. (Buffalo, Detroit, Oakland) to name a few. Until you make the playoffs and win a game in the playoffs, please shut up and try to play respectable football.

  34. @gbfanforever

a real man doesn’t complain about other people talking trash. they either don’t care or they do something to stop them from talking, like knock them out on the next play or do your job and stop them from getting to the QB so they can’t talk.

  35. Hey if the Lions want to act like that ….. fine. Why is everyone so surprised? Why is everyone so surprised? Look how their sore loser coach acted last week. But its okay, because karma struck in the end. Stafford got hurt, and they lost.

  36. Not a fan of either team but I would put more stock in this story if someone other than a few Falcons’ players were saying it. If Avril was kicking Ryan’s feet, there has to be at least 1 camera shot of that happening. There’s all the refs on the field, all types of people on the sidelines and nobody saw or heard anything?

If this was going on, it doesn’t say much about the Falcons’ players who were on the field watching it happen and doing nothing about it.

  37. Kiss the playoffs goodbye Detroit. Reality is setting in. The offense is looking like Megatron & not much else. That vaunted D-line is getting gashed on the run.

  38. @vallhallaviking

and that comment makes you just as bad as the lions players you probably have a problem with. so i don’t wanna hear you complain no more lol

  39. The players’ behavior is the reflection of the head coach. Classless from top to bottom.

    *****************************************

Lemme guess, King Smarts – you also don’t believe that repeated blows to the head over the course of a player’s career result in neurological damage, right?

… Speaking of which, did you even read the article? No where does it say *anything* about Matt Ryan, the guy who was hurt, crying or getting upset. Thus, unless you know something I don’t that entails Matt Ryan himself replying to this whole thing and crying or being upset, your response isn’t even relevant – it was his teammates sticking up for the guy. Before your high school career as a third-string punter was ended, would you ever have stuck up for one of your teammates if they were disrespected on the field after being injured?

  41. This whole Detroit team is showing they are talented but not quite mature enough to handle success. The 49’s spat followed up by pregame festivities and trash talking this week. Come on guys, follow Barry’s lead……….act like you’ve been there before.

  42. I’m gonna laugh when karma comes in the form of another short season for matthew stafford. When julius peppers hurt STAFFORD he went into the locker room to see if the kid was going to be okay, he didn’t start laughing or making BS comments about the injury(one that peppers inflicted personally without an O-lineman stepping on his ankle).

that being said, the best way to get back at them for that is to humiliate them and then smile back across the field after you beat them in front of all their fans(like the falcons did).

  43. Maybe you don’t know this but Detroit loves guys like Suh. Let’s see here we had the Bad Boys of the 90’s and 04 with the Pistons. We had the real Bas Brothers in Probert and Kocur (if you only knew how Joel Lewis Area rocked). We had the Red Ass Kirk Gibson in 84.

So when you call him a dirty player that’s your opinion true or untrue.

But you won’t mess with that D line that’s for sure. LOL!!

  44. Suh is over rated my god yeah he’s a sack machine but run stuffer he is not he shows up in run support here and there but that’s about it.

  45. For a man to be so charitable and mild-mannered off the field and then on the field become the antithesis, gives a fan the feeling that playing this game brings out an underlying anger at life. Adrenalin doesn’t account for it. Competitive spirit doesn’t account for it. Has to be something deep within. The thing is, he doesn’t need to do this. He’s a fantastic player without all the immature “I don’t have to play by league or ethical rules” attitude. Seriously, Mr. Suh, you need to look into your soul and make some changes. Football will not be the only thing in this life you will ever do. Reputations, good or bad, follow you. Time to clean up your act and be the man God wants you to be.

  46. “Please, this guy has been playing football his whole life.

Yeah, I was being sarcastic. I was implying that it’s rare when Suh doesn’t injure the QB himself with a dirty play.

  47. @ravensfandforlife52

The irony isn’t lost on you that you talked trash to injured players and had your career ended while the opposing players talked trash?

Think about it. Don’t hurt yourself trying, but think about it.

  48. and why do you all assume he said “Get the cart” as trash talk? how do you all know he wasn’t saying “Get the cart” because he was concerned about Matt Ryan’s health?

  49. This is news? Guy is a great player at times, but he’s trash. He still has a lot to learn. The 49ers had him confused all game and when you start eating them up on the ground his true self comes out

  50. a real man doesn’t complain about other people talking trash.

Little late for you guys now, but I get it.

  53. Justin Smith > Suh just sayin… and a better person period. Smith gets little recognition due to the 3-4 but he is still a nightmare. Don’t get me wrong, there are many teams that would love to have Suh, but there are more that wouldn’t. There are better players in the league like Smith that just aren’t as hyped up.

Can honestly say I’ve never reacted to a player injury by wishing they’d hurry up and sweep him off the field. And before you start that “real man” stuff with me, three cancer battles and 28 surgeries are just the tip of my iceberg. Toughness doesn’t have a gender. And this conversation is about class. You can be a real tough man and still have it. No one has ever accused James Harrison or Ray Lewis of acting like this over an injured player. Suh is a mighty talent. But this behavior is inexcusable.

  55. kong will get his, and none of us will feel sorry for him when he does. i liked his style at first. tough, smashmouth football player who doesn’t care about the whistle, but i don’t have respect for d-bags.

  56. Are you kidding me? Suh tough yes! Classless? Dirty? No. Trust me, for anybody at the game it was the Faclons who set a classless and punk like tone. Including a pre tunnel fight. Number 53 in front of the Lions as they are exiting the tunnel to the locker room, is their with the rest of the dirty birds jawing and showing what Atlanta is all about. ( See fox halftime footage ). Countless of extra stuff after the play, starting off with Matt Ryans first interception.

Or is is ok for Sean Weatherspoon and Curtis Lofton to taunt and hand over people when they make a hit?

We are just no longer the leagues doormat. Congrats Atlanta you beat us today. Savor, because it won’t happen again. You got bailed out by two huge calls today. A PI when the ball was no where near catchable and a weak holding call that nullified a first and ten at your 40 with 2 minutes to go and three time outs.

Its a grown mans game and don’t start nothing and there won’t be anything. But before you post backing up the Falcons, I’d watch the tape again and you would at least see both parties responsible for the extra curricular stuff today.

As for the Matt Ryan injury, thank God he was ok? Nobody wants to see any player lost to injury. Not even the Lions who its funny watching the game live, all I saw was all Lions players on one knee praying. That goes for Suh and Avril.

  57. None of us have the right to make any judgement, as none of us know if Suh really said this, or if he did, if it were truly in a mocking manner. It could have been stated in a voice of concern. Then again, maybe he did mock Ryan, in which case he deserves all the criticism he deserves. I believe if he did, he should man up to what he said, but lets be honest, no athlete does when it comes to this type of accusation. As for Avril, watch the video of the injury, he is nowhere near Ryan. They all came in and touched him to make the play dead but after that you do not see him.

On a side note, it’s really classy to classify an entire city as trash because of what a player, or even a fan, says or does. Ignorance is bliss!

  58. @Deb

I’m not saying real men have to act like Suh. I’m saying real men don’t complain about it like children afterwards. you handle it on the field. sorry I don’t see a problem with people talking trash during a football game. it wasn’t even like he was injured. he came back two plays later. his injury was truly horrific (sarcasm). and yeah toughness does transcend gender, but most of the physically tough sports are played by men. sorry but that’s how it is. and i’m sorry about your cancer, keep fighting, my uncle has cancer too i know it’s tough.

  59. Not only is he a dirty player he’s also a trash talker who won’t/can’t back it up.
Isn’t it ironic that it’s his QB that got hurt.

taunting is part of football. That’s true. It’s also true they aren’t ice skating. Where you went wrong is the part about the guy being hurt. Even your Ray-Ray and the original LT were always classy if they injured a player in the course of a game. Don’t be a moron. Suh might be tough, but there are lots of big Offensive Linemen that could take a cut at his knees. If he acts like an idiot, he’ll get his sooner or later.

  61. @mmmpierogi

yeah i did stick up for my teammates. i did it on the field on the next play. i didn’t complain about it after the game. and i know Ryan didn’t say anything, i was referring to his teammates. i was saying what happened to me because the guy i was talking to mentioned two injuries that i’ve sustained during games before. that’s the only reason i mentioned them. i wasn’t trying to say i was an amazing football player, i wasn’t great i was ok though. i was just saying that trash talk is part of the game and people get injured. and yeah repeated blows to the head do cause brain damage, but that’s a risk of playing the game whether you flag people or not it’s still gonna happen. if you’re scared of it then don’t play.

    @sublimeday

yeah it’s not irony. it happened all the time when i played football. it wasn’t a rare thing. back when i played the game before it got all pansified, yeah i know it’s not a word and i don’t care, we didn’t get all worked up and upset because a guy said some mean words we just stepped our game up and played better.

  62. ravensfan4life52 with all of his chest thumping, makes me think he played for a penitentiary flag football team. I believe that most if not all posters that talk like tough guys are in reality complete pansies and pillow biters.

  63. @ravensfan4life52 …

Thanks, I’m doing well right now but for a few lingering effects. Hope your uncle gets through it.

No argument from me on leaving the sport to men. I’d be happy if they left the sideline reporting to ex-players, too. Suzy Kolber is good but the NCAA Barbies drive me nuts. I don’t have a problem with trash-talking–within reason. Still have a soft spot for Joey Porter 😉 But if the story about #92 kicking at Ryan’s feet was true, that’s crossing the line. Yes, it would be better if the Falcons could have handled it on the field. But the NFL won’t let players do that Jack Lambert/Cliff Harris thing anymore 😀

  64. funny because the way suh plays the game is very much in the same vein as players from decades ago some of you love to talk about endlessly. what’s the difference? because he did it to someone on your team?

i despise goodell with a passion but don’t cry when he wants to make the game safer with the lame defense that football is a violent sport and then complain about players like suh and james harrison. you’re not going to have it both ways.

  65. The packers say the falcons disrespected them, the falcons say the lions disrespected them, who cares…. but don’t worry after turning the league into flag football, goodell will ban trash talking

  66. Sounds like 2005 playoff game. Steelers at Bengals! Oh how the Steelers and coach jumped up and down when Kimo obliterated CP’s knee.

If you talking trash to an injured player and generally acting like an immature dbag makes yo a man, you’re the one who needs to grow up.

A real understands the concept of sportsmanship and realizes that while violence is an indispensable part of the game, celebrating injury is not.

A long time ago, I suffered a shoulder injury playing rugby that appeared to be a neck injury when it happened. I was taken off on a backboard.

When I walked out of the emergency room 8 hours later, the player that hit me was sitting in the locker room, having waited there that whole time.

Does he fail your standard of manhood?

    that’s good to hear.

I don’t know what they were talking about with number 92. i didn’t see anybody go near Ryan after he rolled over. i want to see video of it. and if the trash talk really happened like these players say it did then it would’ve come to swings. but in the end it’s a game. people get hurt but that’s a risk they signed up to take. Where I grew up trash talk was part of the game, hurting people was part of the game, and we didn’t get worked up over words. all trash talk did was motivate us to play better. i just don’t get what the big deal about it is.

    _________________________
It’s only an opinion if there’s no information to base the declaration off of. So far, Suh has racked up quite a few personals, and there’s video evidence of him getting away with personals that weren’t called. So, by definition, Suh appears to be a dirty player. Now, whether or not you think that’s a bad thing is an opinion. It’s really not your fault you got that wrong. News networks have made such a point of putting two people side by side to say different things for almost every story that people have begun to think that everything is an opinion. That’s simply not the case. It doesn’t matter if you get a hundred people to say different things. If one assertion is actually supported by facts it’s the truth plain and simple.

  72. Me again. To all you Lions fans coming at me, by exposed, I mean that if you Fight back against the Lions and don’t let them punk you, you have a shot. Run at Suh, kill their Will. You last your last two home games, for a reason. Ask the Eagles, the dangers of running that Wide 9 Defense. I’m stating facts.

  73. For one, it’s the NFL, grow a sack. He wasn’t carted off and crippled, trash talking is part of the game. Secondly, Suh may be “dirty” but I guarantee that anyone out there would LOVE him on their defensive line. I would take him in a heartbeat. A player is only dirty until they’re on YOUR roster, then they’re “great.”

  74. @realitypolice

I already answered your question above, but I’ll repeat myself. I’m not saying taunting an injured player makes you a man, I’m saying complaining about other players talking trash makes you a child. I’m saying a man handles his business on the field, whether that means taking a swing or playing better and harder. A man doesn’t go to the media and whine like a little girl about people talking trash. when i played whenever I, or anyone for that matter, got knocked on their butts or injured and the other team started talking trash, we didn’t run to our coach or our parents or our friends and complain about the other team talking trash even if they were talking towards one of our injured teammates. we would go out on the next play and handle our business. and we did the same thing to other teams. it’s just what we did, it’s not like we were playing dirty or kicking people while they’re on the ground, it’s just we played hard and when someone got hurt we really didn’t care. in our minds we made an awesome play and the person who got hurt was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. it was just part of the game. we didn’t feel bad for people who got injured. in our minds if people didn’t want to get injured then they shouldn’t have been on the field. when i was injured once i got to the sidelines i just told my teammates the guy’s number and they handled it the next play. that’s just the way we played the game. It’s the way most of the greats played the game. everybody says they miss the old days when real men played football, but then when it effects your team or a player you like all of the sudden you don’t like the old way the game was played.

  75. Can anyone tell me WTF happened to game ejections?
ROgers clearly got creamed ‘intentionally’ in the Vikes game, ball was out of hands and the player came up and flattened him. Big deal, a penalty and 15 yrds. If he would have put Rogers out of game, it may have turned the tide. My point, if the person doing the hitting is ejected, it too may have turned the tide.

The NFL has got to stop the silly fines, that mean nothing to millionaires. They need to start tossing people out and fining them both. One and two game suspensions should be in order as well.
The new kickoffs are designed to prevent injuries really Goodall? How about this flagrant helmet to helmet and facemasking not being more than just a penalty and fine. That my friend will prevent some injuries.

  76. Packer rout on turkey day!!!! Write it down take a picture whatever!! Stafford or no stafford, still getting ran out of the stadium

  77. I’m a lifelong Packer fan in Lion country. I have to admit that the Lions had me fooled to where I actually thought they were becoming a top flight organization. WRONG!!! There coach is trash talking punk. Their leader on D is a dirty no class punk and their is QB will never stray healthy. I can’t wait until Turkey Day when the Pack will have a real feast on the phony bunch of losers.

  78. I don’t know why anybody is surprised. Schwartz is a clown and displays it on a weekly basis–so why wouldn’t his players follow suit?? I hope if this is true, the League will start to crack down on it

  79. Funny, Raiders fan talking Karma. That’s really, very funny!!!

Seriously, go to youtube.com and search Matt Ryan injury.

There is simply no way any ratioanl player/person can say that #92 Cliff Avril kicked at Ryan’s legs while he was down. That’s the thing about TV, everything is seen by everyone who wants to see it.

It’s BS to say that Avril (or any other player for that matter) kicked at his feet.

Looking at the video, I am fairly sure that there was a lot of talk happening, you can see players looking around at other players.

It is ridiculous how many people have not seen the play but continue to say things that are simply not true. But that’s the profootballtalk experience isn’t it.

It’s as simple as watching a 45 second youtube clip.

  80. after watching the tape a couple of times, i doubt any of this is true. but, if it is true, it says more about the falcons than the lions. not one peep from any falcon on the field at the time.

  81. ATL: Prepare for a verbal onslaught of whines and cries by their Panzy School girl HC, The Lion, and especially their fans

dum dum dum…..Another one bites the dust!!!!

    *fistpump* to the lions fans!

  82. purpleisreallypinkyouknow, 1984 called and wants its stereotype back. that was almost 30 years ago and people hang onto that like some precious jewel. there have been seven championship celebrations in Detroit since 1984 with none of the mayhem you described.

  83. Hey Raider23mike: Stop being such an a@@ clown. Didn’t your qb break his collarbone lastweek and Mcfadden hurt his knee this week? Let us not forget about your great 1-2 punch at QB of Boller and Palmer, who from here on will just call Balmer because its impossible to distinguish between the two. That was an impressive home shutout the Chiefs put on you clowns today. Imagine a Raider fan calling anybody dirty or classless. I’ve been to the black hole in 2007 when Detroit jail housed sex you guys. Most of you I encountered acted like you had all just been paroled. Great 6 interception performance to a team we beat 48-3. Will see you on December 18th. Next time don’t cast stones. The glory days are over brother. Get rid of the black members only jacket, shave the sideburns and move out of your parents basement.

  84. There is a difference between being a tough and feared player and being a punk who takes cheap shots and enjoys seeing players get injured. All these guys are in the same profession trying to make a living, they should have a little respect for each other and want each other to stay healthy, but according to some people that means you’re “soft”.

  85. Crap rolls down hill. If this ugly behavior was truly unacceptable on the Lions then it would be. Coach is a classless douche and so are the more shortsighted players on his team. Unfortunately for the Lions, the 49ers gave the whole rest of the league the template on how to dismantle the Lions. ATL has enough talented players to replicate what the 9ers did. They are not going to beat GB at home or away and looking at the rest of their schedule, it’s quite feasible they could end up anywhere from 7-9 to 5-11 IF they’re really fortunate. God Bless Harbaugh and his handshake. The Lions were so deserving of the dump he took on them post game.

  86. Players who act like the city they represent. What a novel approach!
Ever been to Detroit? To help friends move out?
Nothing more bleak than that city and their lame football team. Pinnacle moment of glory was a couple of weeks ago.

    Back to lameness……

  87. All you ladies are crying because Roddy White called someone classless? Roddy knows absolutely nothing about class.

  88. Suh sure loves the spotlight. Lions on pace to finish 8-8 and miss the playoffs. Atleast the Raiders can get in the Playoffs @ 8-8. Palmer may have not played like GOD (yet) yesterday but he will with the very weak Lions secondary come Dec. Woo hooo .. Bring on Shaun Hill.. Lmao

  89. ravensfan4life52 says: Oct 23, 2011 8:38 PM

    @gbfanforever

a real man doesn’t complain about other people talking trash. they either don’t care or they do something to stop them from talking, like knock them out on the next play or do your job and stop them from getting to the QB so they can’t talk.

    ————————————

Maybe someone will stop him from talking – and end his career early. Hopefully Suh is a real man and doesn’t complain if it happens.

  90. Everyone needs to understand something, you’re in Detroit. They prefer to murder or rape you (sometimes both)…what Suh said was mild compared to what happens outside that stadium.

  91. I think Suh was drafted on the wrong team. He should have gone to Philly. The P.O.S. fans there would love him.

  92. This dude keeps elevating himself to #1 on everyones hit list.

When he’s laying on the ground, holding his busted ACL, everyone rooting for the other 31 franchises will be laughing.

There’s a difference between being mean and nasty as a DT, and being a goddamn moron.

  93. @ravensfan4life52

    I don’t know what’s sadder.

The players running their mouths over Ryan when he was hurt or you trying to tell other people on a blog thread “How to be a Man” by backing it up with your High School football days. I didn’t think Al Bundy existed in real life but I do now.

    #man

  94. Funny, when you watch the video of it…Cliff Avril – 92 & Suh – 90 are nowhere near Matt Ryan….Obviously no sound…so don’t know if they said anything, but where is Avril kicking Ryan’s feet?

I see Lawrence Jackson # 94 touches Ryan down & Corey Williams # 99 is watching Ryan on the ground…sounds like the Falcons are making things up.

  95. Saw the clip, was at the game. After Ryan was on the ground, there was some contact but that was part of the play. In the NFL, you’re not down until an opponent touches you. Other than that, Suh saying “get the cart” seems pretty normal. Dude’s on the ground and it really didn’t look like he was getting up any time soon. I’m amazed he could finish the game after that.

  96. Its funny that all these fans come out and talk trash once their team beats another. For the two loses they were both close and hard faught games. This is about class though and for all of you taking this that suh talked trash by saying get the cart. Why could this not be class and him trying to get help because the injury looks serious. And there is no proof on avril kicking at ryan’s feet. But if anyone watched the game look at the injury of the fb when delmas hit him he immediatley grabbed his head took a knee and prayed for the man.. But thats not class either must have been praying to the gods in hope his leg was broke.. Im just saying everyone has to find the bad when a team is playing ok.

  97. Falcon fans don’t no what there talkin bout yall screamin 5-11 an yall just over .500 he there would have been a penalized if there was something bad said stop hatin on the best dtackle in football what happened to yall supposed to be high flying offense! The whole falcons team is soft yall get blew out in the playoffs every year yall make it!

  98. Guilty until proven innocent? I guess that’s how it is around these parts.

Avril was accused, and he vehemently denies doing what he’s accused of. Suh said “get the cart”. So how is that taunting?

Amazing to me how many of you are wishing bad things on Suh, but that’s OK, right?

    H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E-S!!

  99. @crazycane

I’m just saying don’t whine about it afterwards. handle it on the field. that’s all i’m saying. I’m tired of hearing players complain about childish stuff after games. and the only reason i brought up my high school days of football was because someone brought up an injury i had in high school. wasn’t trying to glorify myself or anything, just saying that’s how it was when I played. I wasn’t even that great of a player I was average at best. and I like the Al Bundy reference. that was funny. touche. but my life has actually gotten better since the injury. not being able to play football anymore forced me to focus on school and made a better student. not that you care.

  100. @kennyrogerschicken

I don’t really care if he whines or not. If he does then he’s childish. If he doesn’t then good for him. I don’t really feel strongly about him one way or the other.

  101. Huh a Classless act from a Classless player vs a Classless team becomes a story. I really don’t see why Falcon fans should be pointing out Suh for this. Their team has the Dirty Bird nickname, and is very well known as being one of the more Classless teams in the league today. I guess the pot still calls the kettle black now a days

  102. Everyone, go back and look at the replay, no one’s kicking his feet. Heck, Avril is hardly in the same frame as Ryan. So if White lied about that, what else did he lie about….

  103. Not a Detroit or Atlanta fan, but this is how it used to be, Butkus used to spit on imposing players hands and rip their helmets off, the great Steel Curtain, specifically Jack Lambert were ruthless guys. Who wants to see their team suffer a loss to a division rival and then suck butt when it’s over anyways? Atlanta players are saying that he is a dirty player, but they are also the ones who could have done something about it. Kick his rear on the field, bite his ankles, grab the face mask and take out his knee’s. When you watch the old NFL highlights, ex players said all the time, they were trying to hurt you… Now days, they still try to hurt you, but no one will admit it on the field because of the “I am your best friend and we play football together.” Carson Palmers vs Pittsburg playoffs, Rothlisberger. Tom Brady, Phillip Rivers, and Peyton.. You tell me players aren’t trying to get these guys out of the game?? At least these guys are telling them what they are trying to do… If your tough to stop talking and do something about it.

  104. There’s a lot of smoke on this. Hard to know whether there’s really any fire, because I really haven’t seen actual evidence of Suh’s ostensible dirtiness. I know I like the guy off the field, and that he’s a lights-out player on it, but I think it’s a lot harder to respect a guy if he is acting the way some opponents have described.

  105. The colleges are allowing more and more of the criminal element into the football programs. The colleges and NFL base everything on talent and not character. They’ll reap what they sow.

  106. Too many “feel good” types posting on here. It’s football, not rythmic dancing. 25 years ago the stuff that Suh’s accused of doing would been nromal and expected. It used to be okay for players on opposing teams not to like each other, and to wish/cause harm to each other. Now, if they’re not hugging it out at mid-field, then the player is dirty and not nearly sensitive enough to the other players’ feelings.

I don’t care what Suh or the other guy said toi Ryan when he was hurt. I don’t care if they kicked his feet while he was laying there injured. I also don’t care if this post comes across as crass or insensitive. Football is supposed to be a violent sport played by violent men. If Matt Ryan needs to have his package held while whispering sweet nothings into his ear so that he can feel good about himself, then he should have picked a different profession.

The NFL is about 2 seasons away from requiring players to say “excuse me” any time they run into each other, and requiring a mid-field gift exchange before the game.

  107. You can be tough and still have class.

If you can’t figure that out, then I think you’re protesting something a bit too much.

  108. Classless like their whining coach. This is why he should have been fined for his childish actions last week. They watch him and follow suit, He probably even teaches them to act that way.

  109. 1st off.. This thread was highly entertaining.. just wanted to thank all the participants. It’s great when people can be objective, subjective, and even throw in a gratuitous jab at Philly fans. This had it all. I agree with the point that ravensfan has laboriously tried to make BTW. Oh, and YouTube is a beautiful way to distinguish fact.

  110. Pretty pathetic to spread rumors.

Look at the tape. Cliff Avril never comes within 2 yards of Matt Ryan. There is no kicking and the camera is on Ryan the whole time. Avril never even gets close enough to kick. It’s a flat-out lie.

If they lie about that, they’re probably lying about Suh as well.

  111. hrdcorbengalsfan says:

Sounds like 2005 playoff game. Steelers at Bengals! Oh how the Steelers and coach jumped up and down when Kimo obliterated CP’s knee.
    ——————————————————–
Oh please post a link to the footage of Cowher and the Steelers celebrating that injury. 🙄 If your nose keeps growing, it’ll get caught in the steeler wheel when you drive.

  112. @philly2boston

thank you. it’s very frustrating when people can’t read and comprehend sentences.

  113. Michael David Smith should also be embarrassed for participating in this kind of rumor mongering and character assassination. This belongs on a soap opera site, not from somebody that purports to be a sports reporter. It is nothing more than incredibly lazy journalism. In fact, it is not journalism at all. It is garbage.

  114. It comes from the top….Schwartz is a punk and Suh is a punk. The irony is that Stafford was the one who seems to have gotten hurt.
If they want respect how about they act like professionals.

All that talk is just that….talk. They’ll be lucky to get 10 wins although they have an easy one this week.

  115. @Deb, I liked steeler wheel better.

Suh, should look at old tapes of Reggie White, who was the most dominant defensive lineman, and he did it with class. Suh is becoming a very good player, but is a going about it completely the wrong way. He’s acting like a complete d-bag on the field.

  116. @Deb

As if that would be shown. It so happens I was there 10 yes from it. Ask anyone. There was some major celebrating going on.

  117. Karma will get Suh and Avril. If the Lions do make a run, they will go down when the team needs them most. You can’t make comments like that to a player that can’t defend himself.

I understand the need to be an intimidator. Anxious to see how Tebow responds to these two monsters chasing after him this week.
