For the second straight week, the New Orleans Saints are playing a winless opponent. For the second straight week, it’s a blowout.
Except that this week, the Saints are the ones getting their butts kicked.
Late in the third quarter in St. Louis, the winless Rams have a stunning 24-0 lead over the Saints — the same Saints team that beat the Colts 62-7 a week ago.
So what the heck is going on? The biggest issue is that the Saints’ defense has no answer for Rams running back Steven Jackson, who has 17 carries for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Jackson has been running with power and explosiveness, and the Saints’ defenders don’t look particularly interested in tackling him.
The Rams have also done a great job pressuring Drew Brees, sacking him four times and preventing him from throwing deep all day. Brees has completed 16 of 22 passes, but for only 128 yards.
With 20 minutes left to play in St. Louis, this looks like one of the biggest upsets of the year.
