Saints-Rams a blowout, but not how you’d expect

AP

For the second straight week, the New Orleans Saints are playing a winless opponent. For the second straight week, it’s a blowout.

Except that this week, the Saints are the ones getting their butts kicked.

Late in the third quarter in St. Louis, the winless Rams have a stunning 24-0 lead over the Saints — the same Saints team that beat the Colts 62-7 a week ago.

So what the heck is going on? The biggest issue is that the Saints’ defense has no answer for Rams running back Steven Jackson, who has 17 carries for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Jackson has been running with power and explosiveness, and the Saints’ defenders don’t look particularly interested in tackling him.

The Rams have also done a great job pressuring Drew Brees, sacking him four times and preventing him from throwing deep all day. Brees has completed 16 of 22 passes, but for only 128 yards.

With 20 minutes left to play in St. Louis, this looks like one of the biggest upsets of the year.

  1. PATHETIC performance on both sides of the ball. They deserve to get blown out by one of the worst teams in the nfl.

  2. Gregg Williams needs to go now. Every week the opposing rb destroys the defense. It will only get worse as the season goes on. Keeps blitzing no matter what. He doesn’t know anything execpt to blitz every play.

  3. lol, dudes gettin’ whooped in a dome by the AJ led Rams… after talking about how they’re gonna come into lambeau field and take it over….smh.

    Who ever said that?

I swear people on this site just make up stuff to be pissed about so they can be all high-and-mighty when some team they don’t like loses.

“I saw this coming a mile away.”

Steven Jackson doing alright is easy to predict, but Brees gettin’ shutdown in a dome ain’t…
Dude is way better than he is playing right now… this is a straight up stinker, saints are better than this. I expect them to bounce back, after Sean starts whoopin’ some uknowwhat in that lockerroom.

Go and look at the Packer team evaluation thread posted last night. Plenty of Saints fans talking trash about the packers…..

I was about to post the same thing as the guy you replied to.

  8. The Aints can’t block Chris Long or Robert Quinn either. James Laurinites is looking like a Pro-Bowler. Give the defense some credit.

  9. Saints fan was all about beating GB in the post about Brees, Brady and Rodgers beating Marino’s passer yard record.

Brees might do it and that’s fine but if Brady or Rodgers does it – I find that 10x more impressive. You know – playing outside in northern climates and putting up yards like that.

As to the Saints tanking today – I’m fine with that completely. Everyone acts like the Saints are some legacy program that should ALWAYS be up there and ALWAYS be contending (see Notre Dame) when in reality – they’ve won 1 SB and followed that up by getting jobbed by the worst team to EVER make the playoffs in Seattle.

IIRC – they INVENTED the paper bag on the head during a game.

Let’s not get all misty eyed over them getting beat. It’s 95% of their history.

  10. When it was 24-0 i said that i hope they lose 62-0.. All week it was said that they wouldnt overlook the Rams..and look what happened.. They played like total and utter garbage.. 3 runs in the 1st qtr is not going to get it done.. On a side note Charles Brown needs to go. That dude strait up got owned by Long… They should burn the film from this game cause they didnt do a damn thing well today…

Saints fans take their team very seriously. Probably more than most b/c of all the other stuff involved.

So, if it makes you feel any better, know that there are a lot of people hurting today. I guess that will put a spring in the step of many here, but I just don’t get that mentality when it comes to sports.

I think I probably won’t be posting here anymore any way. There ‘s too much hatred in this world.

  12. I think that karma cashed in a check due for the Saints today. Scoring 62 points last week? Maybe don’t rub it in against such a hapless team, and karma won’t bite you in the ass. And Brees, as much as I like him, is not even in the same league as Rodgers. He’s way too small and unathletic to survive any pressure.

  13. “Yeah we know, Saints suck, blah blah blah, come on haters, do your best. I’m going fishing. LOL”

Um, they are 1-2 in their last two games, with the win coming against the Colts.

    Enjoy your fishing, homer.

It’s horrible, I mean first Pearl Harbor and then the Saints lost – when will it ever end.

Seriously – if your mental well being can’t handle the Saints losing a game 1. How did you make it to an age where you can operate a computer? They’ve been above average for no more 6 years and an all time record of about 291-386 and 2. Really – get some help. I shudder to think what would happen if you’ve ever really had to deal with something.

  15. I’ve dealt with plenty…too much. I wouldn’t expect you to understand any of it.

But if it makes you happy to hate, go right ahead. You’re welcome to it. Do I need a little help? Probably….but then again, I’m not the one taking joy from the misery of others.

Have a nice day. I really mean that.
