The Dolphins got their first victory of the season on Sunday, something that likely stopped the Vontae Davis situation from becoming a major story on Sunday.

The team sat down their best cornerback for the game against the Chiefs for non-injury reasons, details of which were reported on Sunday. One report had Davis getting into a fight with Brandon Marshall at practice as the reason for the suspension while another report alleged that Davis didn’t play because he showed up late to practice hungover and smelling of alcohol.

At his Monday press conference, Tony Sparano wouldn’t comment on the reason for Davis’ absence from the lineup. He did say that he expected the cornerback at practice Wednesday and at Sunday’s game against the Redskins.

“Fellas, honestly, it’s going to stay within us,” Sparano said, via Andrew Carter of the Sun-Sentinel. “If it’s going to get to you people, it’s going to get to you people not through me, OK. So that’s just the way I am, it’s the way I prefer it. So that’s the way it’s going to be. It’s something that I needed to do here and that’s what I chose to do. And it’s over and we’re getting ready to play the Redskins and I have every intention of Vontae being ready to go on Wednesday.”

Davis has been bothered by a hamstring injury in recent weeks, but Sparano also said he thought the injury had subsided enough for Davis to get on the field.
