Woodson: Packers defense played a lot of “bad football”

The Packers won their eighth straight game on Sunday in San Diego, but you’d barely know it to hear some of the reaction to the game.

That includes reaction from worrying Packers fans, media, and even the players.

A lot of bad football,” Charles Woodson said in a “somber” ton after the game via Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “I don’t know what it was. Just chalk it up to bad football.”

The Packers defense scored 14 points. They stopped the Chargers twice in the final four minutes of the game. There were positives, but Woodson didn’t seem to want to hear it.

“We feel like if the ball is in the air, we’ll come up with our fair share, certainly. But how many times are you going to have two interceptions for a touchdown?” Woodson asked.

Cornerback Tramon Williams called it a “bad performance” overall.

“We’re getting wins, but there’s going to be a lot of guys walking around like we got a loss,” said Williams.

That’s a good reaction to have, but let’s not go overboard. The Packers defense is playing well enough to win each week. What NFC team is ready to actually make the Packers defense pay in the playoffs?

The formula for Green Bay is different than last regular season, but it’s also a lot more effective than last regular season.

“We were not as sharp as we need to be as a team, but we won the football game. We’re 8-0,” coach Mike McCarthy said.

The Packers defense isn’t great, but it repeatedly makes the plays necessary at the end of games to win. That has to count for something.
