The last time Calvin Johnson had the ball in his hands in the end zone at Soldier Field, he didn’t hold onto the ball long enough, and what appeared to be a game-winning touchdown catch was instead ruled an incompletion.
Johnson has had 14 months to think about that, and he says that if he scores today at Soldier Field, he’s going to celebrate it in a major way.
“I got to have something for this one,” Johnson told the Detroit Free Press. “If I get in the zone, I’ll have something.”
Johnson says a desire to celebrate in the Soldier Field end zone has been building up inside him since his touchdown catch was taken away a year ago.
“We all here ... everybody felt it was a catch,” Johnson said. “We feel like we got screwed over on that one, but it’s payback. Payback time.”
Johnson has already tested the limits of the rules about what constitutes a completion. He’d be wise not to test the limits of the rules about what constitutes an excessive celebration.
