Jerome Simpson won’t be fined for flopping

California authorities say they tracked a package containing 2.5 pounds of marijuana to the home of a Cincinnati Bengals player in suburban northern Kentucky. Spokeswoman Michelle Gregory with the California Department of Justice says Bengals wide receiver Jerome Simpson and teammate Anthony Collins were at the house on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, when a woman there accepted the package. We noted earlier in the week that Bengals receiver Jerome Simpson committed a flop so egregious that the NFL would have been justified in fining him.

But the league office has informed PFT that Simpson won’t be fined.

For those who haven’t seen the video of the flop yet, it’s worth watching. After pulling Browns linebacker Scott Fujita out of a pile, Simpson went flying when Fujita brushed into him. It was the kind of bush-league stunt that makes most Americans hate European soccer, but it was also pretty hilarious. And it was effective: The official threw a flag for a personal foul on Fujita, offsetting the personal foul on Simpson for yanking Fujita out of the pile.

Fujita won’t be fined, either, as it was obvious once the league office reviewed the tape that he didn’t really deserve to get called for a personal foul.
