With Ted Ginn injured Monday night against Pittsburgh, the 49ers may need Braylon Edwards again soon. They certainly didn’t need him against the Steelers.
It sounds like Edwards was a healthy scratch for the game.
“We went with the three [receivers],” coach Jim Harbaugh said via Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com. “Felt like [Kyle] Williams, Ginn and [Michael Crabtree] gave us the best chance. Then, we also wanted to use Brett [Swain] on special teams. Those were the four we dressed.”
Edwards has struggled with knee injury this year, but he played last week and practiced during the week. He was listed as questionable, but expected to play.
It’s a remarkable statement that he wasn’t even active for a team that could certainly use playmakers. Edwards has fallen a long way from this time last year, when he thought he’d strike it rich as a free agent.
Ginn sprained his ankle. Early X-rays were negative, but his status for next week is uncertain.
