The Steelers won’t allow for any last minute drama regarding their quarterback decision this week.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review passes along word that Charlie Batch was officially named the starter by the team on Friday.

We’ve said all week that it made sense for the Steelers to go all out for a bye against San Francisco. Since it didn’t work out, it makes sense to get Ben Roethlisberger healthy for the playoffs now.

There’s a chance the Steelers could make Big Ben active for the game, but he would apparently only be used in an emergency. Dennis Dixon is expected to back up Batch.

The Steelers face the Rams’ third string quarterback Kellen Clemens on Saturday. If Pittsburgh can’t win with their backup quarterback, this team has more problems than we realized.
