The 49ers’ most consistent offensive weapon of the season claimed a record on Saturday afternoon.

David Akers hit his 41st field goal of the season to put the 49ers up 16-10 over the Seahawks in the fourth quarter. That broke a tie with Neil Rackers, who hit 40 field goals for the Cardinals in the 2005 season, and gave Akers sole possession of the record for most field goals in a season. Akers set the record for most points in a season by a member of the 49ers in Monday night’s victory against the Steelers.

Akers was let go by the Eagles before the season and he’s proven to be a very valuable pickup by the 49ers. Their offense hasn’t been awful this season, but without Akers’ steady foot it is hard to imagine that they would be in position to earn a bye in the first round of the playoffs.
