Chiefs sign Ryan Succop to contract extension

We don’t know who the coach will be in Kansas City next season. We do know who will be kicking field goals for the Chiefs.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the team signed kicker Ryan Succop to a five-year, $14 million extension. The deal includes $4 million guaranteed divided between a signing bonus and a guaranteed 2012 salary.

Succop thus becomes one of the more successful “Mr. Irrelevant” picks in recent NFL history.

At least until Tim Toone breaks out.

  1. Too bad Mike Shanahan was unemployed for the 2009 draft…you would think someone named Succop would be perfect for him…

Only good pick Pioli has made so far.

    ****************************************

Yeah, that guy Eric Berry is a real bum. Tony Moeaki? JAG, right?

  3. Good kicker and a good pickup for you guys. The blocked field goal wasn’t on him.

Must have been hard growing up with that name though. Still it’s better than a last name like Sue,.. uh, er, Suh.

  4. The whole kickers aren’t football players is old. I’m not a Chiefs fan by any means, but all you “athletes” on here that keep writing that everytime there’s a kicker topic are ridiculous. Get some new material already except for what you hear on ESPN. Good for you Succop.

  5. Pioli has actually drafted fairly well, amazing how people forget when players get injured.

Or not…….Cassel…not a Pioli draft pick…..J. Charles…..not a Pioli draft pick……..Tyson Jackson, the 3rd pick of the 2009 draft and he of the 2 sacks in 3 years, THAT’S a Pioli draft pick. That’s two more sacks than I have and I’ve been inactive for the last 47 games Tyson’s been active.

  7. Tim Toone is currently residing on the Bills practice squad, just waiting for his oppurtunity to pounce. The Succop signing coupled with the Bills injuries should be his final motivation.Add into the mix the possibility of not re-signing Stevie Johnson and look out!!! The door will finally be opened for “The poor man’s Wes Welker”.

  8. Mr 14 million dollars more relevant then the rest of us. This guy is one of my favorite draft picks in recent years and I am not a Chiefs fan. Tim Toone needs to recognize that haircut has no business being on a white boy.

  9. Sorry but Pioli dosnt get credit for drafting Eric Berry because any GM would of taken him in that spot and Moeaki has been injured his entire career, including college. Tyson Jackson? Jonathon Baldwin?

  10. He”s one of my favorite kickers for booting 5 FGs in the Chiefs win over the POS vikequeens. Congrats on the new cheese Ryan. I hope those 5 FGs against the lavender Larry’s help you get yours.

Really… Pioli didn’t pick Cassell? Who drafted Cassell in New England? And who traded for him and signed him to a fat extension in Kansas City? I’ll give you a hint, fill in the blanks _cott _ioli
