Report: Rams will fire Spagnuolo and Devaney

AP

It widely was believed that Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo would be fired after losing 37 games in three seasons.  It wasn’t known whether G.M. Billy Devaney would survive, especially since most General Managers get two bites at the coaching apple before having to bob for a new job.

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Devaney won’t have that luxury.  Mort reports that both Spagnuolo and Devaney will be fired by Rams owner Stan Kroenke.

A team source was less definitive, telling PFT that the situation could go in any direction.  If Mort is right, the direction will include the dissemination of pink slips.

  1. It was VERY obvious the Ram’s were trying to tank this game-Running on 3rd and 10, Leaving Crabtree wide open on a FG attempt. Then all of the sudden when they realize Indy lost they play decent football. Spags and Devany must go..with a decent draft this team could be good in future years

  2. Welcome back to NY Spags. Fewell will be gone after this year. Defense in NY hasn’t been the same since he left. Some guys are just meant to be coordinators

  3. it doesnt matter, they have no intetion of winning till they get to LA. even though the fans have held up there part of the bargain. they have showed up much better than a lot of cities have, despite the product being complete manure for a long time.

  4. Fire Castillo, hire Spags. The Eagles blew 5 (correct me if I’m wrong) 4th quarter leads this season, you can’t tell me they wouldn’t have at least 2-3 more wins with a real DC.

  5. Yes Spags to Philly. As much as nobody wants to admit, if Philly had a real DC, the giants and Dallas game tonight wouldn’t mean anything. If they get Spags they’ll be back on top of the div next year. Dallas and NY are avg teams. And yes bla bla about the Super Bowl. Real fan here, no fake fan, my dad likes them so I like them $hiit. One and done for who ever gets in from the NFC east.

  6. It’s amazing, when a new coach is brought in everyone in the media and all the web posters say how great of a hire it is. Three years later, no one says I had it wrong. Sometimes, there is simply no explanation for what happened. The new coach didn’t get dumb after he was hired. Teams fall quickly and hard. It takes times.

  7. Spags to Philly wont happen. Birds won’t get rid of Washburn and Spags won’t come in to a wide 9 based defense.

  8. Nice call on seeing Spags staying, Brian Burwell!!!

No wonder why HBO no longer employs you (people, look at his IMDB profile there’s ‘Real Sports’ & ‘Inside the NFL’ written on it)!!!

  9. Shame. I think Spags did quite a bit for the Rams’ D – if he coulda got the Offense figured out, the defense wouldn’t be done by the fourth quarter of every game.

But just so long as Josh McD is also on the way out…

  10. As an Eagles fan, I will root for the Giants in the playoffs. Whatever helps Fewell keep his job and allows Spaggs to come back to Philly.

  11. Spags is garbage. And stop praising the guy as a defensive guru when his defenses in St. Louis were HORRIBLE. The giants front 4 made this guy out to be a good coach, which he obviously isn’t.

  12. Why the hell would the Giants fire Perry Fewell after the way the Giants defense, particularly the defensive line, has been playing the last two games? Romo couldn’t do anything major in the face of that pass-rush.

Spagnuolo should go to the Eagles as long as Andy Reid doesn’t let his fondness for Juan Castillo get in the way.

  13. Here’s the bad news for you Sheagles fans, Spags didn’t leave Philly on the best of terms with Reid. He felt fat Andy held him back from getting a dc job the year before he went to NY. So I doubt he’ll want to go back to that. Oh btw, thanks for picking up Steve Smith, otherwise Victor Cruz might not have got a shot! Enjoy the playoffs batches!

  14. If the Rams are smart they will fire Spags and make him sit out a year before working for another NFL team as he is still under contract for another year. It may take 10 years to undo the damage he did to organization.

  15. Why should Castillo get fired for another bone-headed Andy Reid mistake? I doubt he begged to be put into a job he knew he had no idea how to perform. Put him back where he belonged in the first place and bring Spags in as DC. And can Chubbs Reid.

  16. The Eagles need to hire Steve Spagnuolo as defensive coordinator and demote Juan Castillo as soon as possible.

  17. I dont understand why all these Rams fans are calling for Josh McD’s head so much. The way this O-Coordinator carousel is going, Bradford will be a bust. I, for one, am heavily supportive of Spags and hope he and Josh McD stay if only for the fact I don’t want to see Bradford suffer the Alex Smith treatment. The kid need some continuity with his receivers and they’ll never achieve it having to learn new systems every year. I would like to see what could be of this team with a full off-season of getting to know the Josh McD system, having their O-Line get healthy, cutting Jason Smith (or moving him to LG, he might actually be better there, just like Robert Gallery was), drafting Kalil to play LT and moving Saffold to RT, and getting YOUNGER on the DT position. Long still has his great motor, Quinn should step in next year opposing Long and make the pressure better, MLB position is secure for years to come. Rams draft should be: LT, CB, CB, CB, CB, OLB, OLB this upcoming year. Since Bartell’s neck injury has put his future in jeopardy.

You really want Coach McDumbass to stay with your team? What do you want next year, an 0-16 team?
