Perhaps Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien will wind up coaching at Penn State next year after all.

O’Brien will interview for the head coaching position on Thursday, according to NFL.com.

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network writes that the “potential to strike a deal is very real.” ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported that O’Brien would meet with Penn State this week and looked like the frontrunner for the job.

That could be O’Brien’s way of telling any interested NFL teams that they should speak up if they want to interview with him. (The Chiefs?) After reports surfaced last week that O’Brien was all but the next Penn State coach, his agent came out publicly to say O’Brien’s dream was still to lead an NFL team.

In the meantime, O’Brien set up an interview with the Jaguars. La Canfora believes that interview is unlikely at this point because O’Brien is likely to take the Penn State job.
