Bills quarterbacks coach George Cortez leaves for the CFL

Two years ago, when the Bills needed a quarterbacks coach, they reached into the Canadian Football League and hired George Cortez, who had been the Calgary Stampeders’ offensive coordinator. Now Cortez has decided he wants to go back north of the border.

Cortez has been hired as the new head coach and director of football operations of the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

George did an excellent job during his time with us and I want to offer my congratulations to him in his new role as head coach of the Hamilton Tiger-cats,” Bills head coach Chan Gailey said in a statement. “We’re excited for him with this new opportunity and wish him the best of luck.”

Cortez has spent most of his coaching career in Canada. With the Tiger-Cats he will replace Marcel Bellefeuille, which I mention mostly because I think “Marcel Bellefeuille” sounds like the perfect name for a Canadian Football League coach.
