Giants’ defense heading to Green Bay feeling confident

After shutting down the Falcons on Sunday, the Giants’ defense is feeling confident.

Defensive end Osi Umenyiora, who put an exclamation point on the Giants’ defensive performance by sacking Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan on Atlanta’s last offensive play, told the Star-Ledger that defensive coordinator Perry Fewell “called the best game I think I’ve ever seen called.”

The question is whether Fewell can find the right calls to slow down the Packers’ offense on Sunday. When the teams met in the regular season, it was a close, competitive game -- but that was because the Giants’ offense made plays to keep them in it until the end. Aaron Rodgers passed for 369 yards and four touchdowns against the Giants’ defense on the way to a 38-35 win.

The Giants’ defense has played well during their current three-game winning streak, allowing just 14 points against the Jets and another 14 against the Cowboys before beating the Falcons 24-2 on Sunday. The Packers, however, are another challenge entirely. The Giants may need their best defensive performance yet to win in Green Bay.
