Andy Reid on vacation, in no hurry to change defensive coordinators

Nine days after the Eagles’ season ended, head coach Andy Reid has still not said who his defensive coordinator will be in 2012. And one report out of Philadelphia indicates that Reid is in no hurry to make a move.

Geoff Mosher of the News Journal reports that Reid is on vacation until the end of the week and isn’t likely to make any decisions until he returns.

Although several reports have suggested that Reid will replace defensive coordinator Juan Castillo with former Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo, that move apparently won’t happen this week.

Reid has already fired one member of his defensive staff, cornerbacks coach Johnnie Lynn. If Reid hires Spagnuolo or someone else from the outside as defensive coordinator, Castillo may be moved to cornerbacks coach.

  1. It is starting to look like it won’t be Spags but rather someone who is still in the playoffs. There is no chance Reid comes back with Castillo and he isn’t the only person making that decision.

  2. That’s probably where Castillo should have gone in the first place, not DC. I guess that’s water under the bridge now, but for sure, that debacle was Andy’s ninth life.

  3. It may make every Iggles fan angry, but I think Castillo will stay. The Iggles’ D got better as the season went along. They went 5-2 in the last seven games and allowed 19 points or fewer in those five wins.

  4. Hey! Everyone remember MadLibs:

In the off season Coach Reid will sit on his fat _____ and do absolutly ______! He will sit back while eating pounds of _______ and just listen to himself getting _______. One must wonder what could of been of the Eagles if they kept Kevin ______ and let go of injury prone Michael ______. Now all they can do is watch the playoffs and wish that their “_____team” was there.

    that was fun!

  5. “Castillo may be moved to cornerbacks coach.”

So many similarities between the offensive line and cornerbacks, that transition should be totally seemless.

  6. Well, can the Eagles be quicker on changing the head coach????

Hue Jackson’s Raiders were young and growing, but he’s canned after going 8-8????

Reid coached worse than Hue Jackson this past year because Jackson did two jobs: coaching and the front office!!! People, let’s be simple and straightforward!!! Multitaskers are more prone to failure than UNItaskers!!!!
Why??? Because there are MULTIPLE jobs being performed!!! The more you add on, the difficult things are!!!

Reid can’t say this because Howie Roseman is unitasking as GM and he is as bad at his job as Andy Reid is as head coach!!! Don’t just fire Reid, fire Roseman too!!!!

  7. 1) Fire Castillo. He wasn’t a good coach on either side of the ball.
    2) Hire Spags. Brilliant defensive mind.
    3) Hire B-Dawk to coach secondary. He’ll make sure the guys are putting in the work they need.
    4) Draft Bama defense.

  8. “Hire B-Dawk to coach secondary.”

Hire B-Dawk to do anything. We haven’t been the same since he’s left, which incidentally coincided with Jim Johnson’s passing as well, another loss from which we are still struggling to recover.

  9. Sounds like someone has a sentimental attachment to his coaches. You have to separate business and friends at some point to succeed. They may have gotten better as the season went along, but your trying to fit a square block in a round hole with Castillo.

He very likely IS the only person making that decision. I’d say it’s likely Juan gets canned and moved somewhere else on the team…cornerbacks coach makes sense. But I also wouldn’t be surprised if he came back.

  11. making fat jokes is all you guys have….lmao Andy Reids A Head Coach For A Nfl Team While Your Just MBT’s (Moms Basement Typers)…get a life and stop hating

  12. You really gotta love the fact that, for the second consective year, after a disappointing eagles season, what’s andy’s first order of business when its clear a change is necessary in the coaching staff? Go on vacation! He can say whatever he wants about his work ethic and the hours he puts in. But its pretty clear this arrogant bastard cares more about kicking back on a beach, than improving his team, at one of the most critical times. Do yourself and this city a favor. Handle business, get a real D coordinator, then take a vacation!

Also, delusional people can yap all they want about how much this team and defense improved over the final four game win streak. But really, look at the offenses they played. Miami, NY Jets, a Dallas team with a high school quarterback, and Washington. Please! A CFL team should shut down those offenses

  13. Reid is trying to find a landing spot for Castillo, just like he did for McDermott.

I hate to say it but I think you need to keep Castillo. He’s terrible but if you are going to ride with Reid I think you have to give Castillo another year also. I could see them making Spags a Defensive Quality Control coach or some other BS title.

IF you make Spags the DC is raises lots of other Q’s:
What happens to Washburn?- Spags will not run the Wide 9. No Wide 9 most liekly means no Washburn.
If Washburn leaves will Mudd leave? They are close friends, who knows how deep that loyalty runs. Washburn helped convince Mudd to come out of retirement.
If Mudd leaves and Castillo goes back to the o-line that means he will go back to bigger o-linemen and the o-line will get shuffled AGAIN.
No Wide 9 means a much less effective Jason Babin. The guy really hasn’t shown the ability to play well in any other system.
