Baylor’s Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Robert Griffin III has been widely expected to leave school and enter the NFL draft, and today he’s making that decision official.

Griffin is informing Baylor coach Art Briles today that he has decided to turn pro, and an announcement is imminent, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports.

Mortensen reports that Griffin is also close to picking an agent and could do that today as well.

Although Stanford’s Andrew Luck is expected to go first overall, Griffin could go as high as second, and some observers think he has even more upside than Luck. Griffin led the NCAA in passing efficiency in 2011 and is also an outstanding athlete who had the potential to be an Olympic hurdler before he decided to focus full-time on football.

Griffin leaves college football behind with a career stat line of 800 completions in 1,192 passes (67.1 percent) for 10,366 yards, with 78 touchdowns and 17 interceptions, plus another 2,254 yards and 33 touchdowns running.
