Aaron Hernandez gets concussion tests

AP

Just about everything has gone perfectly for the Patriots Saturday night, at least until the fourth quarter.

Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez got his “bell rung” on a carry at the goal line. Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald reports that Hernandez got concussion tests on the sideline after the hit.

The Patriots are officially calling Hernandez questionable to return with a head injury. He’s played more than ever in the backfield and leads the team in rushing with 61 yards on five carries.

New England entered Saturday’s game as healthy as they have been all year, with safety Patrick Chung and linebacker Brandon Spikes making a big difference on the team’s defense.

Hernandez’s status will be something to watch this week in the buildup to the AFC Championship.

UPDATE 12:05 a.m. ET: Hernandez spoke to reporters after the game.  “I’m good,” he said.

  1. It’s always a good idea to let someone who doesn’t have much experience as a running back carry the ball when you are up by 42 touchdowns.

  2. Concussion or not, there is no way the league has the stones to hold Hernandez out next week.

  3. I bet if they were behind he wouldn’t have been given a concussion test. Think Jimmy Graham of the Saints was given a concussion test.

  4. Kinda stupid to have him in there in the 4th qtr anyway. Why are the Pats playing their starters past the 3rd qtr. almost served them right if they has a significant injury.

  5. Damn, I hope he is alright. I really liked him running the ball as a quasi RB. That was pretty cool.

  6. Thank goodness it wasnt Harrison. They may have called a penalty even though it was a runner. People wouldve been on this message board talking about how dirty a player he is.

  7. To Eddddd,

You couldn’t be more wrong. Hernandez actually used to play running back at one point in his football career.

    Dumb.

Hopefully he never plays another snap again.

    your an idiot

  9. Really! Your wishing for a guys career to end! Who’s the piece of crap? You friggin moron!

  10. How about not running one of the start tight ends into the line in the 4th QTR of a blowout… and how about a little less high-stepping, Aaron. Don’t embarrass yourself like that, dummy.

    (But I’m glad he’s ok)

  11. Amyone who says “YOUR an idiot” is an idiot. I hope Hernandez does play, and next time he tries goose-stepping into the endzone, a Raven/Texan snaps this b/itch’s leg off and puts him out for real. Bad karma, Pats fans. Baaaaad karma.

  12. @mowski

The definition of dumb is putting an integral part of your passing game in a position to get hurt when you are winning by 40 in the fourth quarter.

  13. He looks good running the ball.
But wtf? Don’t they have running backs?
They have a great thing going with those 2 te’s, why risk that?
Running backs get chewed up/dinged up quick, why not chew up the backs and keep this guy around for the passing game.
