Discount Double Check jokes make it to the Golden Globes

A. Rodgersstatefarm

By now, everyone has seen all the variations of the Aaron Rodgers “Discount Double Check” State Farm ads. You may have even had the misfortune of getting “Show us what you got, what you got Raji” stuck in your head.

With exposure comes ridicule. We’ve approved roughly 443 discount double jokes in the comments since Green Bay’s loss, led by the ever-popular “discount double choke.”

Such jokes made it all the way to Hollywood, where Giants senior vice president of player evaluation Chris Mara attended the Golden Globes Sunday to watch his nominated daughter Rooney Mara.

In a fun story by Steve Politi of the Newark Star Ledger, Chris Mara recounts his day.

He watched as much of the game as possible on television before getting updates on the end of the game via texts. While seated there, someone at his table asked him about it.

“Yeah, and the Giants just blew them out,” Mara said.

“I’m a Packers fan,” the guy answered.

“I’m sorry,” Mara said. “Discount Double Check that!”

Luckily, the guy didn’t take a swing at Mara. The two men toasted.
