49ers return specialist Ted Ginn, an impending free agent who could make a lot of money for himself with a big return or two tonight against the Giants, officially will be a game-time decision, due to a knee injury suffered last Saturday against the Saints.
Per a league source, the decision is expected to be that Ginn won’t play.
Before the season, Ginn re-worked his contract to take less money for 2011. In exchange, the final year of the six-year rookie deal he signed in 2007 was thrown out.
The ninth overall pick by the Dolphins that year, Ginn was traded to San Fran in 2010. At times a potent return specialist, he has been a Desmond Howard-style disappointment as a receiver. Through five seasons, he’s averaging nearly 32 catches and nearly 410 yards per year, and as many career receiving touchdowns as return touchdowns -- six.
