Colts owner Jim Irsay considered Montreal Alouettes G.M. Jim Popp for the job that went to Ryan Grigson. Maybe Irsay was simply looking for insight on the guy whom Popp hired four years ago to coach the CFL team.

According to ESPN, via the Toronto Star, Alouettes coach Marc Trestman has landed on the list of candidates for the job. Trestman reportedly was interviewed over the weekend.

Trestman, a 56-year-old lawyer who obtained his degree while serving as an assistant coach at the University of Miami, worked at the NFL level from 1985 through 2004. He specializes in offense, working as a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator.

After two years at North Carolina State and one year out of football, Trestman emerged as the Alouettes head coach in 2008, leading the team to Grey Cup titles in 2009 and 2010.
