Cruz: I wouldn’t have partied if we lost

AP

Victor Cruz has probably been asked to do his salsa routine 474 times since he won the Super Bowl. And he’s probably been glad to do it every time.

Cruz wouldn’t have been dancing, however, if he lost the game.

Florio had Cruz on PFT Live Thursday and asked about Rob Gronkowski’s post-game dance moves.

“I would have been in my room, watching TV, soaking in the moment,” Cruz said. “It’s not every day you make it to a Super Bowl, man. . . . Some guys play 15, 16 years in this league and don’t make it the Super Bowl. Or even the playoffs, let alone the Super Bowl. . . . I probably wouldn’t have been partying too much after that.”

Cruz’s full interview, including his comments about deserving a pay raise, can be seen in the gigantic box right beneath this sentence. You can’t miss it.

  1. Yes, Victor but you also seem to be a fairly intelligent individual who can put a complete sentence together. Gronk, not so much.

  2. If I was a Pat’s fan my only issue with Gronk partying after the loss is that he was jumping around on the bum ankle that made him virtually invisible during the game. Taking the shirt off while partying makes you look like a fool whether you won or lost.

  3. I think Cruz needs to get in line to get paid. I think the Giants should take care of Nicks this offseason and take of Cruz the following year; it’s all about putting your time in. Cruz should made all the offseason money he can from ebdorsements and have another great year and then cash in with a Austin Miles type contract in 2013.

  4. ive never seen so many guys from a winning superbowl team talk so much. So what if you wouldent have done it if you lost. Fact is you didnt lose and the patriots did, and Gronkowski did. He’s a 22 year old kid who went out and had fun, celebrating probably one of his most accomplished and memorable years in his life. That being said, im tired of hearing the Giants yappin everyday, you won, your the best team, enjoy it and move on. As for Cruz you were undrafted for a reason, and had an astonishing year, lets see some consistency before you get to loud. I dont need to even comment about Jacobs, he makes himself look stupid.

  5. Why is this even news?? So what if he was partying he might never make it to the SB again and was enjoying it win or lose. Some people need to loosen up.

  6. I hate the pats but what’s the big deal? If he had room service and watched tv in his hotel room, would that have changed the game? Nope.

The idiot who recorded and leak the video is a problem. Gronk’s attempt to dance (while failing hard) is not.

  7. Really….one season success and he is mouthing….Gronk was a beast breaking record. His team lost after fighting until last minute. They over achieved given their 31st defense. What’s wrong in partying and venting out.

  8. I would call this the stupidest controversy ever, but this is the NFL media we’re talking about.

  9. Can someone tell the Giants that they WON and they dont need to comment and or worry about the Patriots. Victor Cruz has gone from a humble likeable player (to a pay me, and I can’t keep my mouth shut) Brandon Jacobs!

  10. Gronk stunk in the SB but danced shirtless with other men pretty well. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

  11. So – the tool who dances in the endzone during blowout losses would NOT have danced after a Super Bowl loss?

Maybe not that same night Cruz, but you’d have been dancing – you’d have danced plenty. As a wise politician once said, “spare us the sanctimonious baloney”.

  12. Partying could go either way but you would have thought he could not walk when he got off the plane. All week not sure if I can play but a few hours after the pain killers are gone he is jumping up on a table and dancing like no problem. Again not what you would expect from one who just lost the biggest game of his life. Oh well as fans we have come to expect the worse from players.

Do you realize how hypocritical you sound? One season’s success (by BOTH of them). They’re both (effectively) rookies who were “beast(s) breaking record(s)”.

Then you proceed to claim that Cruz is “mouthing” off, and then in the next breath seek to absolve Gronkowski?

For the record, from my objective point of view — neither was in the wrong for doing the partying or the lobbying for a pay increase.

If I were Cruz, my play would do the talking. The Giants will obviously value him long-term, and Jerry will do right by him.

If I were the loser in a Super Bowl, PERSONALLY, I would be too pissed to go out. Much less act like a fool.

  14. As a Pats’ fan, I could give a crap about the after party, the game was already over. If it was the night before, that would be a different story.

If Rodney Harrison wants to comment, then God Bless him, he’s been on both sides of a Superbowl outcome, twice over, he’s earned the right to comment.

I know the Cruz / Jacobs’ comments are prompted by, and blown out of proportion by the media, but whatever happened to taking the high road, and not commenting? Imagine how much better Cruz or Jacobs would look if they said nothing, or just repeated how happy they were to have won the game, and said nothing about the Pats; the Jacobs comment especially makes him look like such a sore winner.

That’s something I always liked about the Pats, is how little they would run their mouths to the media.
“Say little in defeat, say even less in victory.”

Congrats again Giants on a well earned victory.

  15. Wow. Giants say they’re a classy bunch. They don’t show it.

Most guys would just take the trophy and ring and move on. Why keep trash talking?

  16. The party that Gronk attended was a private, ny invitation only party that was sponsered by The New England Patriots organization.

  17. Can we give this topic up already?? It’s not life or death. What should we ban him from football? Should he have gone into a 6 month depression? Talk about people freakin out over this. Yikes. Do you think he took it easy in the game, because he knew he had to save his ankle for the big dance that night? He gave it his all, they lost. He is young, rich and wanted to enjoy the party atmosphere. Didn’t know there was a mandatory time for the losers to be miserable and they are not able to enjoy any of the fun after the game. Would it have been better if he went out and got drunk and started beating everybody up? Let’s get perspective on this. Don’t have a ounce of problem with this. Enjoy all the benefits of being lucky to get paid a ton of money to play a game. Enjoy!

  18. Well its official the season is over & now ” Dancing with the Stars” is what we are in an uproar about….cmon man! !!

  19. “ive never seen so many guys from a winning superbowl team talk so much.”

    Doubt that.

Almost everyone wants to interview the Super Bowl champs. That involves talking. Usually question and answer type stuff.

  20. The only issue that I have with Gronk dancing like that is that he was supposedly hurt during the game. How is it that he has problems doing his job due to injury but can go out and have a good time doing things on the same injury?

Other than that, who cares? He wasn’t breaking a law, it was a team sponsored event, and he was drowning his sorrows in a beer and dancing. Alot of people do that.

Cruz – shut it and play. You played well, your team won. Do that some more and then talk.

It’s not that serious. Everybody mourns differently.
    ————–
    Right….I’m so heart broken I lost….let’s have a party yay…

  22. The Giants players are just as obnoxious as their fans. Cruz should just shut his mouth and enjoyed the moment. who cares what he would of done. he better hope he plays well next season then he can worry about more money.

  23. Gronk had a right to party afetr the SB, win / lose, my concern is his ankle. If he could party so hard with a bum ankle how ome he couldnt play. is his ankle really hurt?

  24. Now, if the patsies had won, don you think THEY would have shut up? If your team had won would you? We are having our fun, shut up and let us enjoy it. If yall donmt like us yapping, DONT READ IT

  25. Fact: Victor Cruz is a better dancer than Gronk or should i say the other description Jalen Rose used? nah never mind.

  26. How great would Cruz have looked if he said “I don’t know how it feels to lose the Superbowl, so I don’t know what I would have done. I only know how it feels to win!”

How great would Jacobs have looked if he said something along the lines of: “I have no comment about Tom Brady or his wife, all I know is how much I love being a Giant & playing with this team & playing for these fans etc….”

But these clowns have to take the cheese from the media & run their mouths. They really are such sore winners, it’s mind-boggling. They can’t help themselves.

“Say little in defeat, say less in victory.”

Congrats on a great Superbowl win NY, you deserve every second of it. I just don’t understand why you’re talking about the other team so much.

Wow – SO SURPRISED that a jet fan is still talking…….. so – just how many super bowls have the jets won in the last 40 yrs?? ohhhh… and what was their playoff record this year? ohhhhh….
just pipe down already jets fans(and coaches…and players…)
oh yea…and how did christmas eve turn out????

  28. I’ll put it this way, if it were Wes Welker, it might be an issue, considering a routine catch that he ALWAYS makes but didn’t is pointed to as “the reason” New England lost. Gronkowski was the guy, on the last play, diving to try to save the game. I say let him party, enjoy his youth while he has it. He played with a bad ankle, which I can tell you is pure hell, and sold out on the last play, coming up inches short of being MVP, and immortalized in NFL history. Not a Pats fan, but his attempt on that last play made me gain a LOT of respect for Gronkowski.

  29. These men are professionals on one of the most respected franchises in all of sports when it comes to the work ethic that they demand of their players; they all no doubt left everything out on the field and the mistakes individuals made were certainly not due to a lack of effort or preparation. Some players can accept this easier than others. They are the ones who make it to the bar, some able to laugh and joke and have a smile on their face, some more acting more stoically. Gronk is a 22 year-old kid who just had the all-time best season a TE has ever had in the history of the NFL. I would hope he’s one of the ones able to make it out drinking with a smile on their face. That being said, dancing like a clown and ripping your shirt off is entirely unacceptable. If I were a player, I’d be pissed for like a week, rip on him the first day of practice and never think about it again. I wouldn’t be able to let it go, however, if this was 2008 and my team just missed out on perfection.

  30. Another Giant yapping even though they won it all. They’re well on their way to being the most obnoxious champs in quite some time.

  31. This is really getting absurd now.

People are acting like their closest family member has passed. These guys are RICH, FOOTBALL PLAYERS..

At the end of the day, its a game, and these guys make a ton of cash playing it. These guys work their arses off 9-10 months in the year, they can do WHATEVER they want.

To all Giants players, and fans: STOP HATING, and ENJOY the win.

So – the tool who dances in the endzone during blowout losses would NOT have danced after a Super Bowl loss?
    ———————————————–

The Giants only had one blowout loss this year. It wasn’t Cruz dancing against the Saints, it was Jacobs. Cruz quickly left the endzone after he score. Jacobs did his elbow dance thing that he does.

I haven’t seen Victor Cruz say or do one single thing that was stupid or inappropriate. The only way you could dislike this guy is if you are a jealous, foot-obsessed Jet fan.

  33. My God, enough of the “passing judgement” garbage with this squad. You won the game, proved that the Pats weren’t up to snuff, and now it’s over. Cruz is starting to sound a bit high and mighty for my tastes. Everyone decompresses in their own way. Gronkowski did his own thing, and I don’t hear anyone piling on Brady about going home and nailing a model after the big thud. Jacobs, Cruz, and any of these other “holier than thou” Giants players can shove their opinions up their nose. You won a trophy, not a soapbox.

  34. A few Giant players are making this Giant team beginning to look like the NY Jets. When asked questions about another team /player the code is to speak/focus on yourself/team.

Cruz’s youth and immaturity shined through. Jacobs has always been known around the Giants locker room as a POS

  35. Sure that’s easy to say now that you’ve won. Next you’ll be asking for more money…oh wait…

  36. I hate the pats but this is a none story……the guy just had one the best seasons a TE has ever had in his 2nd season and then played in a superbowl….he can dance if he wants too…….enjoy yourself Gronk

  37. Isn’t Cruz married with a kid, so no maybe he wouldn’t have gone out. Gronk is single with no kids and likes to party

  38. Guys, calm the hell down. Cruz never said Gronk should not have partied. He said he would not have partied. You’re putting words in his mouth that he did not say. Stop being to sensitive.

  39. Eh. Everyone is reacting to the video someone took. From all accounts it wasn’t a festive atmosphere by any means and the ‘party’ emptied out early.

Let the guys blow off steam like human beings. They’re not robots and the young guys were under a lot of pressure. I’m a Pats fan and have no problem with it.

The main difference between Gronk and what players from losing teams did after a SB loss 10 years ago, is that now every action and word can be recorded and put on display for the world to see and judge.

Let someone follow any fan around recording and posting everything they say and do and we’ll see how long it takes for most of us to crack.
