Paton won’t be heading to the Rams

The Rams can cross George Paton off the list of finalists for the position of General Manager.

The Vikings have announced that Paton decided Friday night to stay with the team, with a new title.

Specifically, Paton will be the team’s Assistant General Manager. “George has been an integral part of our personnel department since he arrived in 2007,” G.M. Rick Spielman said on Saturday. “His work ethic, leadership, professionalism and keen eye for identifying talented football players will continue to be a major asset for our organization as we take on the challenges of competing in the NFC North and winning the Super Bowl.”

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Paton was actually offered the job in St. Louis. Instead, he got a new title -- and a hefty raise, we’re told -- to stay put in purple.

As a result, it appears that Falcons director of player personnel Les Snead will be the Rams’ next G.M.
