Southern Cal offensive tackle Matt Kalil measured 6-foot-6 5/8 and 306 pounds at the Scouting Combine earlier this week. He has 34 1/2-inch arms, a strong measurement for left tackle length.
Kalil is a prototypical left tackle in terms of movement and body type. Appearing on NFL.com’s Combine coverage, NFL Films guru Greg Cosell suggested that the Rams should keep the No. 2 pick in the draft if they believe Kalil is the “next Orlando Pace or Walter Jones.”
Kalil has begun the Combine well. Despite his long arms, Kalil bench pressed 225 pounds 30 times on Friday. Kalil’s two “unofficial” forty times were 4.96 and 5.00 flat.
“He also went 1.70 in the ten yard (split), which is phenomenal,” said NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock.
Kalil is expected to be drafted with either the No. 2 or No. 3 overall pick.
