Kroy Biermann expected to re-sign with Falcons

Another solid defensive player is going to be taken off the free agent market before he even gets there.

D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Falcons will re-sign defensive lineman Kroy Biermann within the next 36 hours, calling the move “imminent.”

The two sides are haggling over whether it is a three- or four-year contract. Biermann is coming off perhaps his worst season, but he’s been a very valuable player for Atlanta as a starter, sub, and special teams player.  He started 14 games in 2010 when the Falcons went 13-3.

The Falcons have prioritized keeping Biermann over John Abraham presumably because Biermann is younger, cheaper, and more versatile. Atlanta will have to continue looking for pass rush help this offseason.

  1. Here in Atlanta, we love the Biermann. Let’s just hope his production steps up along with his contract. Our pass rush needs all the help it can get considering we are gonna let Abraham walk.
