Interest in Randy Moss heats up

Reuters

Free agent Randy Moss is working out for the Saints on Tuesday, but they’re not the only team showing interest in the future Hall of Fame receiver.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on SportsCenter Tuesday morning that Moss will be visiting two more teams next week.

“Randy Moss also has two visits planned right now with unidentified teams,” Schefter said. “One next week, one in the middle of next week.”

And so despite his age (35) and season away from football, a legitimate market is beginning to emerge for Moss’ services.

69 responses to “Interest in Randy Moss heats up

  1. “Based on past interest shown in the 35-year-old wideout, the New York Jets might be one logical guess as to the teams scheduled to host Moss for next week’s visits.”

They better get a QB then, or it’s just a waste.

  2. “Hey guys, it’s been a few hours without a story about the Jets, what do you have for me?”

“Well we can’t continue running the Peyton story, it seems that they actually have a salary cap and can’t afford him.”

“What about Rex, he must have said something outrageous recently, he’s always good for a sound bite or two?”

“No, Rex said he’s done giving soundbites and talking about Super Bowl guarantees.”

“Guys, guys … Randy Moss is coming back to the NFL.”

    “Run the story immediately!”

  3. Anybody but the Saints… Honestly though, I’m pretty sure he’s just using them to drive up his value. I don’t think he’s interested in going to a team that spreads the ball around more than almost any other team in the league…

  4. How is it so sure that this guy gets in the HOF?

I’d say it is premature to refer to him as a future HOF’er.

This guy has a lot of ill will out there…and he’d have to look pretty hard to find fans among the writers who would be voting. While it is true he has had some great seasons and some remarkable games, the guy has demonstrated he pouts, quits, is selfish and is no asset to the locker room.

With a guy like Tim Brown having a tough time getting into the HOF, Randy moss is no shoo in.

  5. The dude needs to clean up a little! At the very least, he should be introduced to a shaver!!

  6. Ya Jets if they get Manning…
Sanchez has NO Shot of getting the Ball to Him…
He Will Pout and Collect a Paycheck.
Sanchez Could not get the ball to Plexico and you all say he is slow.

Sanchez should become a Steve Young Run First Mentality. Mixed with Completing The Brady 1-3 Yd Passes for Accuracy

  7. Thats good hes trying out with a lot of teams – One for the first 8 games, then a fall back option after he gets cut.

  8. If it’s the Jets, the only explanation is that by having Moss on the team, Santonio Holmes will no longer look like a quitter by comparison.

  9. If the Jets are smart they won’t make that move, because once Moss realizes Sanchez can’t read defenses and throw long, it’ll be hell in that locker room.

  10. Why any team would even offer Randy Moss a spot on there team is absurd. I loved watching him play and his abilities WERE second to none, but, he’s quit on multiple teams and proved that even when winning, it’s all about him. Being in New England was a great place for him but Randy was just being Randy and his career folded like a lawn chair. I’d rather have a player with less ability but with a bigger heart.

  11. I wouldn’t mind the 9ers taking a gander at him. I think Harbaugh could get him to play and he’d be a nice deep threat. However, got to go for Wallace first!

I could see Randy doing well for the Saints. They are going to let some receivers walk and Moss is a cheaper option for them…they have to be up against the cap. Brees is the type of QB that makes any receiver with hands look good. Their passing game won’t have a huge drop-off without Meacham or Colston.

  12. Moss may have been great in the past. Then he takes a year off. 35 years old and still arrogant. Hilarious the Saints are taking a look-they are desperate. Can’t lie, cheat or headhunt anymore and need different headlines to reduce the heat they’re taking. Who’s going to throw to Moss? (Just heard on NFL Ntwk Brees is livid and refuses to sign the tag. Just because he has 1 ring, broke a huge record, doesn’t make him the greatest QB or deserving of more money than Peyton or Brady. Especially not if he was aware of Bountygate-he had too have known. Maybe he’s trying to get out of NO or simply holding them hostage for more money).Moss won’t get paid a lot in NO. They will be paying out huge fines for sure.

  13. C’mon. Has there been a lazier, poutier, me-first guy? Moss is a joke, and the guy who signs him will hopefully be fired for it shortly thereafter for wasting cap money that could have been spent on players who show up to play. Moss: no heart, no will to win, no way.

  14. It’s shiny and he hasn’t had one before.

    Stephen Ross is sporting wood……..

  15. @pacheatiots or whatever the heck that name is supposed to mean.

5000+ yards? You don’t throw for that by dinking and dunking as it appears you weak attempt at sarcasm is purporting.

  16. Randy Moss will be a Raven…..we will have Straight Cash For You Homie….

  17. The dudes crust. It’s over! I see a team signing him to sell some jerseys. If the jets sign him they better get a good catering service or moss will drive the Pepsi truck through the locker room himself.

Baltimore??? Flacco can’t even find a reciever……he just dumps it off to a TE or Ray Rice. He’s the same QB as Sanchez, a back up!
    ***************************************************
I have to disagree, Flacco throws one of the best deep balls in the business.

  19. Can You imagine a Detroit offense with Megatron on one side, and Randy on the other? Talk about a double deep threat. Teams would have to stay in Prevent defense mode which would open up some gaps for the rb. im just sayin…

  20. You guys reported last season that “interest in Moss is heating up” and nothing happened.

So, there was no hot interest in him last season, and now I’m supposed to believe that after he has aged another season, there is finally going to be some hot interest?

  21. Please go to the Ravens. Either you’ll play hard every down or Ray Lewis will decapitate you. How’s that for motivation?

  22. Is he better than what you have, for a price you want to pay? That is the only question teams should be asking themselves. Attitude problem? Dislikes caterers? 35 years old? Didn’t play last year? None of that matters. Will he help your team win? Period.

  23. The Saints want Moss to run over opposing quarterbacks with his car. I can’t believe there are teams interested in this a$$ clown.

  24. Moss will not go ANYWHERE where a QB will get him lit up…So, thats narrows list to maybe 5 teams.

No way he goes to jets..Sanchez would get him killed.

Looks @ the top tier QB’s, rodgers, Brees, Brady…those are only teams he plays for. Moss isn’t stupid.

    ——————————————

Seriously?! Torrey Smith and Anquan both had more yds than Dickson last year, and Rice had less receptions than the previous year as we’ve moved away from the dump offs. BTW: never a bad thing when your RB can catch out of the backfield, unlike half of the RB’s out there today. But I’m sure your’s is way better than Rice.

This sounds like a typical Squealers fan comment, to which I’d say Suggs owns Ben and Torrey owns your D in your house, but if by chance your not, please speak up so I can be aware of this far superior team whose O makes Joe look like a back up.

PS- we won’t go after Moss. He won’t want to be 3rd on the depth chart.

  26. I just wanted to give a S/O to everyone that put a post and didn’t mention bounties. Good job guys. Media is trying to force this down everyone’s mouth.

  27. id love it if the eagles used him for 1 year and dumped him. his motivation wont last long so use him just enough to maximize his potential.

Baltimore??? Flacco can’t even find a reciever……he just dumps it off to a TE or Ray Rice. He’s the same QB as Sanchez, a back up!

    ________________________________

Where do I start, first “Flacco can’t find a reciever” for 8 of 16 games this season the Ravens had 2 WR on the dept chart, a 32 year old posession reciever and a rookie. Those two WR averaged 16.8 and 15.6 yards per reception and Flacco managed 3600 yards on the year.

He dumps it off to a TE:
Flacco completed 94 passes to tight ends while Tom Brady completed 167 passes to tight ends.

He dumps it off to Ray Rice:
If Ray Rice is my dump off option, I’m going to dump it to him a heck of a lot as well. Torry Smith led the team in yards, Ray Rice led the team in receptions. Another team in recent history with a RB leading the team in receptions? The 1999 Rams aka the “Greatest show on turf.” You have a weopon like Rice/Fulk you take advantage of that. Ray Rice’s success is not a knock on Flacco.

    He is Mark Sanchez:
Flacco career low in completion percentage is 57.6
    Sanchez career high is 56.7
Sanchez career high in passing yards is 3474
    Flaccos past three seasons 3613, 3622, 3610
Flacco rookie year 60% complete 2971 yards 14 TD 12 INT
    Sanchez rookie year 53.8% compete 2444 12TD’s 20 INTS
Flacco’s career high TD passes 25 (to 10 INTs)
Sanchez career high TD passes 26 (to 18 INTs)
    Flaccos completion percentage each year 60, 63.1, 62.6, 57.6
    Sanchez 53.8, 54.8, 56.7
    Flacco’s Yards 2971, 3613, 3622, 3610
    Sanchez 2444, 3291, 3474
    Flacco TDs 14, 21, 25, 20
    Sanchez 12, 17, 26
    Flacco INTs 12, 12, 10, 12
    Sanchez 20, 13, 18
    Flacco Rating 80.3, 88.9, 93.6, 80.9
    Sanchez 63.0, 75.3, 78.2

In almost every statistical category Flacco’s career low is higher than sanchez career high. Not even a comparison.

  29. “One next week, one in the middle of next week.”

Sooooo….wouldn’t that mean that they’re *both* next week?

    /End trolling.

  30. I would only want him as a 3rd/backup receiver. Anyone who would quit on their team during a game shouldn’t be counted on to start or be one of the top 2 WRs.
There are too many young FA WRs out there with good attitudes to take a chance on this guy to be a major part of your offense.

  31. For those who say Baltimore, why would you want a 35-year-old, end of career receiver? If you can get him on the cheap (highly unlikely) then so be it, I guess. But if the team is willing to spend the money then go after Vincent Jackson. You have speed in Torrey Smith, we now need someone with height. Moss is tall but he’s turning into Moses between the 20’s. I’m aware that Torrey Smith has a little bit of a “hands” problem but he’s good for a deep catch every so often. With Jackson you get a guy with height and good hands.

Only real way Moss comes here, pay him the vet minimum and then pay him straight cash [homie] off the books. God knows there are plenty of cops here for him to runover.

  32. I do not get it with Moss –

Last year I heard more than one analyst say the following about Moss:

    1) Cannot get separation any longer
    2) Is not a “rout-runner” type possession receiver
    3) Speed is not the same

  33. I don’t think Randy can run by people anymore.

And, if you can’t run by people, then you have to be able to run precise routes out of the slot. I don’t see Randy (or TO either) running those kind of routes.

How is it so sure that this guy gets in the HOF?

How is it not a sure thing?

NFL record for most TDs by a rookie.
NFL record for most TDs in a season.
7 Time Pro-Bowl Selection and Pro Bowl MVP.
    10 1000+ yards receiving seasons.
2nd in all time receiving TDs
6th in all time receiving yards.
    10th in all time receptions.
7th all time in receiving yards per game.

You make not like the guy personally, but if Moss isn’t Hall of Fame material than I don’t know who is.

  36. PS- we won’t go after Moss. He won’t want to be 3rd on the depth chart.

    ________________________________

I agree that Moss wouldn’t want to be 3rd on the depth chart but I disagree that Moss would be 3rd on the depth chart, Boldin would be.

The Ravens are trying to find a reciever that would move Boldin into the slot. That may be signing Moss or Colston moving Boldin and Smith down or signing a Brandon Lloyd type/drafting a WR which would move Boldin to 3 hope Smith takes a step forward this year and becomes a one.

I love Boldin and what he has been, what he brings on the sidelines and in the locker room, and what he can still do on the field but at best he is a 60 catch 900 yard WR who can’t streach the field.

Smith is a 2nd year WR with a TON of potential, speedster who can get beyond anyone but still has to take his game to the next level. Best comparison to him is Mike Wallace 3 years ago, he still has a lot to learn in order to be a number 1 WR.

Moss would easily be number 2 on this team if not a sure bet walk on number 1. Would be nice to have on the field to take away some attention and let Torry take his game to the next level.

Moss is like TO, every time he goes to a new team you get a good solid year, maybe year and a half out of him. Sounds like a good cantidate for a 2 year deal similar to Lee Evans deal, where you can get out after the first year if you don’t like what you see.

Just when you think bozos can’t get any dumber, he goes and posts something like this…..and totally redeems himse……nope, it’s just dumb. “AIDSinfectedboy” – what a class act you are.

  38. Moss will help someone…He may or may not run a 4.3– prob more around a 4.4 – 4.5 but he glides andd causes a Defense not use a caroner and safety up top or else you will get burned. I am thinking he is only going to go to a team with a pretty solid QB who can throw it downfield…. If he gets on a team that has a few other options at WR I thik he would do just fine..Since he only plays when he wants to …would have to be a team that could put up with his mood swings and his selfishness… my guess…Eagles, Bengals, Ravens.

  39. The Saints need to be interested in cheap free agents and rejects like Randy Moss because they are going to have to fill all of their needs without any draft picks, or at least high ones.

  40. Remember when TO & Moss thought they were “Jerry Rice” like? What a laugh!

  41. @BOZO:

    Wrong as usual BOZO.
