Moss workout with Saints “couldn’t have gone better”

Reuters

The Randy Moss Unretirement Tour officially has begun, with the 35-year-old receiver blowing away the Saints.

A league source tells PFT the workout “couldn’t have gone better.”  Moss got in and out of his breaks quickly, and he showed great football intelligence.

While we aren’t in the business of contradicting our sources, there technically is at least one way the session could have gone better.  Moss could have run the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds.  Instead, he didn’t run the 40 at all.

It’s unknown whether he wasn’t asked to do it, or whether he didn’t want to do it.

Either way, it was a success.  FOX’s Jay Glazer says via Twitter that Moss “looked like the old Randy” while running 45 routes for the Saints.  (Of course, depending upon which “old Randy” we’re talking about, that could be a good thing, or a bad thing.)

The Randy Moss Unretirement Tour continues next week, with at least two more visits.

T.O. says to save him some popcorn.

Uhhhhh, that “source” couldn’t have been his agent, could it?

  2. Moss shouldn’t be compared to any other old receiver. He’s one of the most physically gifted receivers ever to play. He can still go, the problem is whether or not he wants to at times.

  3. Brees will sign soon(even though he is a greedy hypocrit)

Williams is gone, (but Spags is an improvement).
Sean will be suspended but the team is in capable assistant hands.

    Micky will be find(so what)
Benson will be fined(so what, he still has a hot granddaughter running the team)

colston leaves- (replaced with Moss who doesnt get injured every year)

Keep hating haters, cause the Saints will be the first team to Host and play in the same Super Bowl

The Saints will win a 2nd legitimate Super Bowl…………and the Patriots will STILL not have won one legitimately!!!!

  4. Wow if they ended up with “good” old Randy, can you imagine how many more deep balls Drew Brees would complete. The Saints have everything spiraling out of control right now, but this is a bit of good news. #straightcashhomie

  5. For some reason I just love Randy Moss but despise Terrell Owens…. I can’t explain it.

    Anyone feel that way?

  6. The saints must know they’re gonna get punished financially or draft wise so they’re desperate. Why else would they give this guy a chance? They always have a deep wr core and have an already great TE

  7. i hope the AINTS make that move and sign brandy so he can do what he does best and “STRAIGHT QUIT ON HIS TEAM HOMIE”

  8. Hell, I hope one of my teams (the Broncos or the Seahawks) pick up Moss just so I can buy a Moss jersey with my team. Kind of like how both the Broncos and the Seahawks both got Jerry Rice on his way out of the league.

    Colston, Meachem> Moss.
    ———————————————————-
    Moss contract<< Colston, Meachem contracts

  10. Don’t understand the obsession with Moss’ 40 time. Guy is 6-4, long arms, big hands, and he has caught 1,000 passes in the league or so. Even if he loses a couple steps, he can compensate.

  11. As a saint fan I would probably have said this would tarnish the image of the team….last week of course. Anything goes now. Especially since we are losing Colston and probably Meachem.

  12. This guy is and was a cancer on a football team. Whatever team signs him is the first one that I can safely predict won’t win the SB. This guy is a loser!

  13. None of this is surprising. I’ll check back in during Week 12 to see how it’s working out.

  14. Will they pay him within the rules of the NFL CBA or will they kick in straight cash under the table for him to play? The Saints don’t really play by the same rules as other teams after all.

  15. I find it hypocritical that people love Randy Moss so much after a horrible 2010 season of quitting on one team and being kicked off of two other teams in the same year. But Terrell Owens buts up solid numbers with one team in the same year and everyone wants to say his career is over.
Age is not a factor since Terrell Owens is a workout warrior. I find the entire Randy Moss coverage amazing and disturbing. Randy Moss actions are very unprofessional and everyone seems to sweep under the rug the real Randy Moss. How can his workout be great when he did not run the 40? Terrell Owens was ripped by the media for not running a 40 time at his workout. What a double standard.
Also, what is funny to me is that Randy ran 45 routes but in his career he only ran one route which was the 9 route so I guess he ran 45 nine routes but no 40 so the Saints are impressed.
Oh yeah, people will tell me about the torn acl of Terrell Owens but this is not the 1980’s and technology has made some huge advancements to aid in peoples recovery from injuries plus most doctors will tell you that one year after the surgery your acl is back to normal.
Instead of repeating history with Randy Moss, I would rather sign Terrell Owens. With Owens, I do not have to question his heart, effort, work ethic or wonder if he is mentally into football. I wish Randy Moss good luck and hope someone signs him but when the snake bites you just remember that a snake is a snake.

  16. We all need good jobs in this day an age and we’ll do whatever it takes to get one, but will MOSS do whatever it takes to keep it….that’s the million dollar question. or shall I say veterans minimum…lol

  17. Not a surprise. Randy Moss is one of the best athletes ever to play football. As I posted before, no “huge” off field problems, the Saints have a good offensive system, a great QB for his talents (he won’t get discouraged), and he can definitely help them out. I think the Niners, Dolphins, Jets, Skins, Carolina, JAX, and other teams could definitely use him. I wish my favorite team, Dallas, would sign him, but with Bryant (though I don’t believe it) “management” is worried about Moss’ influence, which I think is BS. I wish him luck coming back (except if with the Skins).

lol yeah and that is about as likely as the 49ers signing Manning and VJax or Wallace just to ruin your dreams. Prepare for the return of the aints. Atlanta and Carolina are about to lock them out

  19. Hope he doesn’t expect a big payout. He’ll have to stand in line behind Brees and the NFL. Saints will be paying a huge fine soon and money doesn’t grow on trees. Moss wants money, N.O. won’t have enough left.

  20. I’ll believe it when I see it.
Yea, he’s motivated to join a new team. He was motivated when he was on the Pats and they were close to 19-0.

Let’s see how he does with some adversity see if he doesn’t quit and up and decides to retire.

You got that right, the haters are in full swing ! Ridiculous , Randy is a dangerous offensive weapon and if you don’t think so watch what his signing will do to defensive coordinators ! Sheesh…..

  25. In Favre’s last game vs the Packers, he had the last play to win the game. He falls, gets up, scrambles, scrambles some more, and throws up a ball that Randy can get to win the game. Randy did not jump, He did not even try to catch it. He quit. This guy is a quitter. Do you want that on your team? NO

Umm, based on recent allegations and the hits on Warner/Favre in that playoff run, I’d say that would successfully illegitimize this SB much more than anything that the Pats ever did. There is no evidence they taped signals when they played the Panthers/Eagles/Rams. There IS evidence that the Saints put a bounty on Favre (and massacred him with late hits and unecessary hits). Sorry, while you may be a good troll, your argument fails.

Bad Randy = mails it in by Week 5.

Good Randy = puts off mailing it in til conference championship games or SB.

That’s the truth. Anyone who cares to look at his playoff performances wouldn’t dare give the above post a thumbs down.

  28. He should! He was the only open receiver. Wait until he gets into a game situation and the ball does not come his way. He will quit like always. I still like Moss for some reason though. HTTR!

  29. That would be cool if this cat got his head on straight. A little less “quit” (see Cris Carter) and Randy Moss could have been one of the all-time greats.

  30. If you are the Patriots, i feel like you have to at least take a look at Moss. a one year deal to team him up with Brady again when he could potentially provide the one thing the team needs. and there would be no questions about him and brady being able to be on the same page. and with all the problems brady has had connecting with receivers, why take a risk of bringing in another one that wont work. moss on a short leash is a good investment (if he can still play).

  31. Randy’s a long strider. As long as he doesn’t have any leg injuries that are slowing him down, he’ll be fast until he truly leaves the game for good.

  32. @shieldsisland37 – Yeah, that was unforgivable for Moss to alligator arm that Favre pass. Brett played his heart out to get the Vikes back in the game. Randy lost all my respect there, and the Vikings kicked his ass out of town about three days later if I recall.

  33. Moss is a man among boys. He is as good as most NFL receivers when he is just going through the motions. When he wants to blaze, he has no peer.

Jerry rice didn’t play for those teams derrrrr

     ____________________________

umm yes he did derrrrrrr. Well actually he was cut by denver during the final roster trim down but he certainly played for Seattle

  35. The difference betwen TO and Moss……TO is an a-hole, but he’s funny……Moss is just an a-hole……………………………..and TO doesn’t give up on plays.

  36. He will be a Patriot again within 2 weeks. W/McDaniels back, and the pats possibly trying to go after some fa’s on defense, they will need to save money in other areas. Moss wants to play, and he knows the system. It saves the Pats the headache of teaching a wr their system, and if he actually screws up again, they release him. He will get around the same $$ Ocho got last year, which will be less than Lloyd and Wayne would demand, and again, would allow the Pats to focus on fixing their pathetic secondary.

  37. @cowboysfaninbuff

Rice most certainly played for the Seahawks. He signed with the Broncos and was in training camp but if I remember he retired before he could officially play for them. Derrrrrr

  38. HA HA HA

You same fools were saying Vick would lose his speed after serving time and he is probably faster than he was 10 years ago because of his training dedication now.

I’d just hate to be the team that passes on Randy and he marks them down on his “to do list” 🙂

    @cowboysfaninbuffalove

um. play is the key word.. he was traded to the seahawks in 2004 halfway through the year.. then after the year he signed a 1 yr contract with Denver.. he wasnt going to start so he retired.

    check wikipedia.. cowboys fan.. figures

Seattle SeahawksRice was traded to the Seattle Seahawks six games into the 2004 season, and was reunited with Seattle head coach Mike Holmgren, who had previously worked with Rice as San Francisco’s offensive coordinator.[10] After speaking with Hall of Fame wide receiver Steve Largent, Rice was granted permission to wear Largent’s retired jersey number 80.[11]

In a Monday Night Football game against the Dallas Cowboys, Rice set the career NFL record for combined net yards by catching a 27-yard touchdown pass from Matt Hasselbeck.[12] He finished that game with 8 catches for 145 yards and a touchdown.[13] Rice would play his last (non-preseason) professional game for Seattle – a wildcard loss to the St. Louis Rams in which he did not catch a pass.

[edit] RetirementAt the conclusion of the 2004 season (his 20th in the NFL), Rice initially opted to join the Denver Broncos on a one-year deal,[14] but ultimately decided he would rather retire than be at the bottom of any team’s depth chart.[15]

On August 19, 2006, the San Francisco 49ers announced that Rice would sign a contract with them, allowing him to retire as a member of the team where his career began. On August 24, he officially retired as a 49er, signing a one-day contract for $1,985,806.49. The number represented the year Rice was drafted (1985), his number (80), the year he retired (2006), and the 49ers (49). The figure was ceremonial, and Rice received no money. There was a halftime ceremony to honor him during the 49ers’ matchup with the Seattle Seahawks on November 19, 2006.

Moss sure can turn those “long arms” into short little alligator arms when he’s quitting on the field.

  43. Good luck, I hope you make it back Randy. Solidify those HOF stats, maybe win a championship. Make some new “news” and get on TV.

Just don’t do it with my Pats, or with the Jets, and we’re cool.

  45. does this mean Moss will receive money for that one time he burned Revis, caught the ball with one hand, then Revis walked away “injured”???
