Mike Tolbert doubts he’d fit the Jets: “I let my play do the talking”

After four years with the Chargers, Mike Tolbert becomes an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday. He’s excited to land with a new team, but in an interview today he mentioned one place where he doesn’t think he’d fit: The New York Jets’ locker room.

Tolbert told SiriusXM NFL Radio that he thinks he’d be a good fit in the Jets’ offense, sharing the carries with Shonn Greene. But he said he doesn’t think his personality would be a good fit because, “they do sometimes have that whole media circus thing going on and I’m not the type of person that gets into the whole limelight thing and throwing players under the bus and stuff like that.”

Tolbert said he isn’t a big talker and therefore questions how well he’d mesh with the loudmouth Jets.

I like letting my play do the talking,” Tolbert said, via ESPN.com. “I don’t like to do a lot of talking off the field. I like to do it in between the lines. So that’s a place that I would think about but I’m not too sure that I would end up going there.”

Tolbert’s take on the Jets is that they have too many players who “seek out the limelight just so they can be seen.”

“If that’s their personality, if that’s the way they want to do it, that’s fine, but I’m not that type of guy,” Tolbert said.

If the Jets were interested in Tolbert before, they probably aren’t now.
