The top receiver (arguably) in the 2012 free-agent class could already have a new home.

Kevin Acee of U-T San Diego reports via Twitter, “It’s over. After seven years, it appears VJ headed to Tam[p]a Bay.”

Of course, “VJ” is Vincent Jackson, the Chargers’ franchise player in 2012.

Jackson at one point was linked to the Bears, but they traded for Brandon Marshall. The Redskins also were in the mix, but the loss of $18 million in cap space likely kept that from happening.

Though the Bucs have plenty of cash to spend, it may not be the best idea to overspend on a 29-year-old receiver with two DUIs. Though the off-field incidents came several years ago, the Bucs have been trying to shed the image of a team that harbors problem children.

That said, the team needs to win more games. To win more games, they need better players. Vincent Jackson is better than any receiver they have.
