CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco reports that the 49ers hosted guard Leonard Davis for a free agent visit on Wednesday.

Davis is reaching the end of his career approaching age 34, but he is a mammoth of a man at 6-foot-6, 355. A former three-time Pro Bowler with the Cowboys, Davis could be an option to compete at right guard as the Niners attempt to replace outgoing starter Adam Snyder.

Snyder inked a five-year deal with the Cardinals on Wednesday.

  1. Really? Why are we trying to pick up players at the end of their careers? Moss and Davis? Team was nice and young before now we are signing dinosaurs.

There can only be one Vikings.

  2. Niners picked up Larry Allen at the end of his career and that worked out great. I like the thought of an experienced player next to Anthony Davis. Anthony is a much better player when Snyder was there instead of Chilo. 49ers have done well with experienced interior linemen. Remember big old Kevin Gogan?

  3. Exactly, same question I have. Why 49ers want to destroy team work of young players who can win next Super Bowl?? Now we have to start from scratch on Special team and offense. Morgan, Castanzo and Snyder are a big loss for 49ers and we will feel it when it comes to regular season. We are missing out on Manning and ready let Ted Gin and Larry grant go to replace them with old players or incompetent players like right side of our offensive line after David Bass was gone.

  4. Moss may be old, but he’s still 6’4 and will draw a safety in the red zone each and every time. Good pick up for no risk at all!

As for Davis, I’d think he’s still an upgrade over Snyder.
